Holidays abroad booked this year?

How many do you have booked if any? How long do you have 2 weeks or a week?
Do you prioritise holidays for your family every year?

We go every summer for 2 weeks. Planning another autumn break for a week but seems very indulgent. We do have the funds.

We don't tend to take holidays abroad as a whole family. We have a dog and farm animals at home, so it's a hassle to all go away, far away, together.

We do UK breaks and take the dog (and a neighbour looks after the rest of the animals or we hire someone). I did take a 9 day holiday myself last year and dh went away with BIL for a bit.

As a family though, we do lots throughout the year - camping for a weekend here and there, a self-catering holiday for a couple short breaks, lots of wild camping/walking/biking weekends away in the summer. Sometimes I do take one or the other dc abroad for a few days. Dh and dd are going to France late summer/autumn have term.

But not one single 2 week block for the whole family. We tend to do more little and often or just one of us/one or both dc.

Florence in April for a week and then Munch in September for a week. Might do Amsterdam for a long weekend in July.

idontlikealdi · 25/03/2024 12:17

We've got two weeks booked in August, Ibiza. We have a UK weekend away at Easter and normally do a week in May half term and October but haven't booked yet, prices are sky high and I can't quite justify it. Yet.

We do prioritise the summer holiday as a family.

Margaritavillee · 25/03/2024 12:19

Got 3 booked so far and aiming for a final/ cheap deal in December. Two city breaks and two beach holidays. We prioritise holidays as we love to travel but we always shop around and book early to get good deals. So far we’ve never gone above 1000 each as we’re saving for some bigger trips next year.

Margaritavillee · 25/03/2024 12:20

Should also add we don’t have kids yet so can easily avoid summer holidays/ half term prices

oldgreysquirreltest · 25/03/2024 12:24

We don't have a set schedule, and it can depend on work (sometimes we get to go to interesting places with our jobs so combine it with a family holiday). This year, we have a week away at Easter and two weeks in August. I imagine we will end up booking something else for this year but I'm not sure what yet! We do prioritise holidays, we all love them and like having them to look forward to.

NYC for May half term and 2 weeks in France/ mainly Dordogne in the summer.

Monkeybutt1 · 25/03/2024 12:28

We prioritise holidays, we have put house decorating on hold for a few years as our son is almost 12 so we want to make the most of holidays with him before he is too old and doesn't want to come. We are going to Paris for 3 days in May half term, Turkey in August for 2 weeks and then we have a couple of days in a cottage in Scotland between Xmas and New year.

If you don't mind saying how much was NYC? Have you booked it independently or via a travel company? We are thinking of NYC next year .

£2.5k for 3 of us (2 adults, 1 under 10), we booked it on Expedia.

Is this another of those "I only earn £100k and I'm struggling to survive" threads?

Sunandseaforme · 25/03/2024 12:32

Greece for a week in June which is booked and hopefully Spain later in the year. Saving for long haul for 2025.

TheOnlyMrsW · 25/03/2024 12:32

Nothing so far, lots of festivals over the summer and earmarked a winter sun break to either Mexico, Dominican Republic or Cape Verde but can't book anything until after A level results when we'll know where DD is off to and when. Then no more school holidays for us, we have a very long bucket list!!!!

TheBirdintheCave · 25/03/2024 12:35

How many do you have booked if any? Only a week in Vienna in September as I'm currently too pregnant to fly 😥

Do you prioritise holidays for your family every year? Yep. I work to travel. Normally we would have a short haul June and September holiday. Considering trying for Japan for the third time when I turn forty in three years but we'll have to see how the mortgage rates pan out first 🙄

TeenTraumaTrials · 25/03/2024 12:40

We have got into a pattern of 4 or 5 nights away in Feb and Oct school hols and a week or 10 days in the summer. We book as soon as the flights are out and stay in airbnb or equivalent. We stayed in some quite basic places when the kids were younger to keep costs down. I am often shocked at the cost of package holidays i sometimes see being posted here.

DH and I also have a weekend away planned just the two of us this year.

We prioritise family holidays away over more regular nights or meals out or events and have done since DCs were small. We would always choose holiday over for example new furniture or car unless something absolutely had to be replaced. We could have moved to new build house but decided to stay put as the extra cost would have meant cutting down on holidays.

The extra hols have only been in past 6 or 7 years as incomes have increased. We know we are lucky to have the funds to do this and i am sometimes embarrassed telling work colleagues about yet another holiday.

Xylenegy · 25/03/2024 12:42

We usually have one short haul and one long haul but thus year we've spent a lot of money on home renovations so only one holiday. 10 nights in Portugal in the summer. We have 4 other UK breaks booked but some of those might be a couple of nights in a Premier Inn so not expensive.

WhatSadLittleLifeJane · 25/03/2024 12:43

I have the whole summer holiday off with the dc. So I'm taking the dc to Thailand for a month, dh will fly out and join us for 2 weeks.

Flights were relatively expensive, but accommodation is cheap.

ScarlettSunset · 25/03/2024 12:46

I'm looking to book a week somewhere sunny this year.
Not been out of the UK for quite a number of years now. Could afford two weeks but getting time off work in one go is more difficult.

whiteorchids44 · 25/03/2024 12:49

We have 2 weeks booked in NYC to visit family and friends and we usually visit another state during our stay. We have one week booked in Turkey during October half term. We are doing 2 UK breaks during Easter break and May half term.

We are very fortunate and lucky. We do prioritise family holidays.

TheChosenTwo · 25/03/2024 12:55

As a family we have got a week away at Easter (UK), a week in May half term (abroad), 2 weeks in August (abroad), a week between Christmas and new year (U.K.) and then dh and I will have a week to ten days without the dc in October/november, we haven’t chosen where yet.

Family holidays are very high up on our priorities every year. Our dc are getting older now and we love spending time with them together. Dh and I have tried to have a week away every year for a few years now but we wouldn’t consider doing this if there hadn’t been a whole family holiday.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/03/2024 13:00

We’re going to Kos for 11 nights in September. We used to go away twice a year but since DH left the RAF he lost about 10 days annual leave so we can’t now.

We do prioritise a holiday a year.

NatMoz · 25/03/2024 13:01

Yeah i love holidays although some are tent camping weekends for £40 for 2 nights etc.

We are a family of 3, 2yo DD.

Over Easter we are going away near Hadrian's Wall.

End of April weekend in Riga with mum and Aunty

Second bank hol May- tent camping Ingleton.

June- tent camping in Silverdale

July-1 week Jurassic Coast followed by second week Lake Garda

August- weekend tent camping Oswestry

August bank holiday- tent camping- location undecided maybe Bala?

September - IKOS in Corfu

October- cheap and cheerful week in a Lake District holiday cottage

That's probably going to be it

mitogoshi · 25/03/2024 13:03

A few Blush

But in my defence my kids have left home so it's just for 2, and we are financially secure

WhatWouldYouDo25 · 25/03/2024 13:05

Yes, we definitely prioritise holidays too.
easter - Lake Garda
June half term: beach holiday
August: visiting my DP in Europe
December: xmas break in Florida (have family there, not doing Disney)

lots of day trips in Uk, have National Trust membership. Might also do a day or two camping.

CommeIlFaut · 25/03/2024 13:05

We have planned/ booked:

February skiing in France and weekend in Geneva to visit friends

April week in west of Ireland

June three days in Paris just me and DD15

July week in Helsinki/Tallinn just me and DS12

July/August two weeks Vancouver/Vancouver island as a family

August extended family long weekend in The Alps

October five days in Rome as a family.

Food and travel are my things. And I prioritise family adventures over other discretionary spending.
