Holidays abroad booked this year?

How many do you have booked if any? How long do you have 2 weeks or a week?
Do you prioritise holidays for your family every year?

We go every summer for 2 weeks. Planning another autumn break for a week but seems very indulgent. We do have the funds.

What exactly do you want from this post? Same goes to the pp that made the snarky comment about high earners. If you’re not able to go on multiple holidays then why would you click on this thread when it’s clear what it’s about. People are excitedly sharing their plans and that makes you feel uncomfortable? I find that mind boggling and kind of annoying. It seems no one can talk about anything exciting or fun because the Debbie downers always arrive to piss on everyone’s parade.

Edited

I'm entitled to my opinion and you're entitled to yours. I clicked on the thread because I love holidays, not realising that it would be people who were going on 4,5,6 holidays in a year - not that I have to justify myself to you about why I clicked on a thread.

FizzyStream · 25/03/2024 15:59

I'm off on a solo break in three weeks to Lanzarote just for 4 days to get a break and some sunshine and quiet. DH recently went on a fancy week long business trip abroad so this is my turn.

We're going as a family to Spain for 10 days in August staying near my BIL so the kids can see and hang out with their cousins.

But why state it makes you uncomfortable? What does that add to the thread? All it does is make people feel awkward about holidays they’re worked hard for. It’s unnecessary. I love hearing about other people’s travels and if the thread was full of people that take monthly trips when I typically only manage 4 a year I wouldn’t then put a woe is me post because it’s pointless and petulant. But that’s just me

Doyouthinktheyknow · 25/03/2024 16:03

Most of our marriage has been a week self catering in the UK, 2 weeks on a good year.

Our dc are now grown and DH retired so this year we have 3 cruises booked and a 4th planned. All but one are 7 night breaks. We also have a few short UK breaks planned.

I am aware we are very fortunate but we are older and have saved for this.

fussychica · 25/03/2024 16:06

We're keen on holidays, always have been. These days do mainly Europe self catering so maximise what we can do for the money. I no longer do long haul. It also helps that we aren't restricted to school holidays and the attached high costs. Very fortunate.
This year
April - 5 nights Pisa and Lucca
May - 10 nights Tavira, Portugal
June - 7 nights Nice
July- 5 nights Northumberland
Mid Sept/Oct/early Nov - driving through France and Spain.

Errr because it does make me uncomfortable. Let's leave it as we clearly don't see eye to eye.

penguinbiscuits · 25/03/2024 16:20

Ive been on holidays since December.
I'm back home for May and then probably holiday again in July. Likely Bali.

I couldn't have a one week holiday. It takes me a week just for settle into the place.

penguinbiscuits · 25/03/2024 16:21

We sort of decide last minute on whether to go somewhere (husband works for himself remotely and I run a business online so we can come and go)

aintnospringchicken · 25/03/2024 17:01

May. 3 night break in Scottish Highlands

June. A week in the Algarve with adult DC

aintnospringchicken · 25/03/2024 17:04

Oops ,pressed too soon

September/ October. 3 weeks to Boston and New England

Firstshoes · 25/03/2024 17:30

We've been to a lovely log cabin/hot tub break in Wales in February. We've got 11 nights in Gran Canaria at the end of June and just myself and DH are off to Alicante in August. We are not rich by any means but sacrifice lots of other things to go especially the GC one as I think it will be the last family holiday as dc are adults. We still feel very fortunate to be able to go at all

We have had many years of UK camping and visiting PIL in Spain.

Now DC are adult we've realised that by the time we retire we may not be fit enough to enjoy it. So we are focusing on seeing places while we can.

So we went to Mexico in December (with DC) and we have booked to go to Istanbul in May. Hoping to manage to get to Dubrovnik and Jordan too this year. I have a big birthday coming up next year so am looking at Vietnam and a safari in Tanzania or South Africa.

Basically making up for lost time!

And yes, it is a priority. We need carpets and sofas but they can wait.

NotmySundaybest · 25/03/2024 18:25

Refreshing to hear that holidays are a priority.
Life is too short!

Sardinia in June with friends and South of France in August with DH and DC. Cornwall with wider family in May and another UK break in October.
Extremely lucky!

Tisfortired · 25/03/2024 18:32

10 days in Majorca in June as a family holiday, would really like to book a city break just me and DP (soon to be DH!) later in the year as Majorca is 2 days after our wedding so TECHNICALLY a honeymoon.

mumto2teenagers · 25/03/2024 18:33

Spending Easter in Ireland, but staying with family and celebrating a birthday.

5 nights in Mallorca in June, taking DD2 (22) and DD1 (24) is staying at home to look after the dogs.

We also have a week in a lodge in the UK booked for September, we tend to do a UK holiday once a year where both DD's come and we take the dogs and then a 2 or 3 abroad sometimes just me and DH and sometimes on of the DD's will come.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 25/03/2024 18:35

We’ve just returned from a 2 week hot holiday. We do it every year - just the 2 of us.

We have a week in Cornwall booked with 4 friends in June and will try and bribe our kids to join us in the US in September.

Heatherbell1978 · 25/03/2024 18:41

School fees kick in this year so our priority order with outgoings is now 1) living essentials including bills 2) pension 3) school fees and then 4) holidays! I'd love to say it was top priority but it just can't be. We're still lucky enough to have 3 holidays planned with 2 DC this year though. A week (UK) at Easter, week in Spain (villa) in July and week in Lanzarote in Oct.
Next year we'll prioritise 2 week abroad in summer then see what budget stretches to around that.

MinnieMountain · 25/03/2024 18:58

We’ve also got me going to Avignon and to Mallorca.

DH has been skiing. He’s taking DS next week.

Centre Parks for me and DS whilst DH is on a stag do.

DH and I are going glamping in the Peak District.

CeeJay81 · 25/03/2024 15:51

@Outoutoutshout I'm with you. We can't afford to go abroad every year either. However this thread isnt for us, it's for those who can afford to go multiple times a year and tbh if I could afford it I would, as I love travel and visiting other countries. Its ashame there is such a gap between the rich and the poor.

You're right about the gap and probably those of us that have labeled travel as a 'priority' need a head wobble. Full bellies and a warm house are priorities. Travel is privilege and something that we shouldn't take for granted actually. Thank you for reminding everyone. X

Marchintospring · 25/03/2024 19:06

I’ve always done multiple holiday and I’ve always been poor. I’ve worked abroad to get days off in the sun, used credit cards and now I’ve got my husband to pay.

I’ve already done Barcelona this year , doing a cruise with my mum who has never been and a long weekend in Wales before the summer.
We’ll do something in the summer and October half term.

GuessThatGranny · 25/03/2024 19:16

France in the summer, and a couple of weekend breaks in the UK

CatrionaCat · 25/03/2024 19:16

Fortnight medium/long haul and a UK city break done already.

Booked:
1 Week North America
2 weeks Europe
2 weeks Africa
3 European short city breaks

Might also have a winter sun type trip at the end of the year and a couple more UK short breaks.

imadeitnice · 25/03/2024 19:30

3 weeks in Cyprus in September booked so far.
Hoping to book a week in May this week for somewhere too
