Well exactly, much better to start school in September, I bet that discussion has already been had!

Also with the whole VAT on Private Schools being possibly the only "divisive" policy Labour have to turn off voters, Rishi would do well to push them to implement it in the coming year. If he does an Oct election they can wait to start it until next year and make a better job of it and surely they want Labour to feel rushed...

Wragg is a member of the Tory Common Sense Group

😂

bombastix · 05/04/2024 08:48

I don't think Wragg is a criminal. He's an idiot. And one with a great sense of himself, but unless he actually passed sensitive information to this person, beyond telephone numbers, then he falls into the large category of sex addled MPs which has been there since the year Parliament began.

I agree and it does make you see how easy it is for other countries' secret services to infiltrate. Did anyone else watch that documentary on the Russians in Conservative party a year or two ago? They basically infiltrated on every level, bribing etc.

AdamRyan · 05/04/2024 09:57

Alexandra2001 · 05/04/2024 07:29

Wragg went on a dating site, sent pictures of his dick to another man, who then used this to blackmail Wragg.... who then gave in and handed out phone numbers.

BBC and his Tory colleagues saying Wragg is a victim of "cyber crime"

FFS!!! Wragg is a victim of his own corrupt actions.

Anyone on here who did anything remotely similar would be out on their ear.

MPs ? nope, someone else's fault.

Can you imagine the different reaction if wragg were female?

Honestly. What an idiot. Don't send strangers a picture of your dick online would be my advice. I think kids get taught that in schools these days. Maybe MPs need some remedial Internet safety education.

Notonthestairs · 05/04/2024 10:11

Wragg won't lose the whip - not because he wasn't a security risk - but because they can't afford to lose another MP.

Presumably the Conservatives will be happy to apply the same standards to the next government. That said they put Braverman back in Cabinet after she was sacked for leaking information. They kept Patel as an MP after she lied to the PM etc.
Astonishing looking back now that Rudd resigned in the circumstances she did.

Now the bar is so low, it's pretty much ground level.

See i don't get this angle.... no one infiltrated him, he isn't the victim of a lapse in security, malware, innocently clicking on a link in an email... or a victim of a Phishing attack as parts of the media are trying to portray it.

This is an MP, on a dating site, sending pictures of his cock to complete strangers, telling them his real name and profession, but then being amazed this info is being used to blackmail him BUT on top of this stupidity, he then gives in to blackmail and hands over other MPs details.

What it does show is that this MP was never fit to be one in the first place.

Notonthestairs · 05/04/2024 10:24

Judging from this short thread from Dan Bloom at Politico it looks a bit more knotty -

"NEW: William Wragg initially tried to cover his tracks on Weds as his name (privately) got connected to the WhatsApp honeytrap scandal

Wragg had previously assured a victim that the scammer, “Charlie,” had worked for him. He went back to the victim and said he’d made a mistake"

Labour MPs also targeted?

"Here’s something puzzling…

A number of those targeted have told @AgnesChambre they’d never met Will Wragg, and don’t understand how he could’ve possibly had their number

Did he have the numbers from colleagues? Or … is there still more to be discovered about this?"

x.com/danbloom1/status/1776152435179860191?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Presumably they were on cross party WA groups. Otherwise it looks odd.

If you watch the documentary, it's all about how the Russians use the idiots in the Tories (that's now about 90%) to see what they will do for them, how willing they are. They set Kompromat situations (such as fishing on Grindr) to get leverage. Looks like the idiots are being forced to fess up to situations to smoke out others publically so that the Russians have less assets. Maybe the party has finally woken up to the depth of the rot. I also suspect Israel has been doing the same - you can see the current scandal starting with Alan Duncan pointing this out https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/tory-peer-israel-gaza-investigation-duncan-b2523466.html

Alan Duncan faces expulsion from party for attacking ‘pro-Israel extremist’ Tories

Tories announce investigation into Sir Alan Duncan 24 hours after he spoke out on Gaza in the Independent - after Independent highlighted concerns over influence of Conservative friends of Israel group

The sending of pictures to anonymous men on the internet is not confined to the Conservatives and anyone who thinks it is is deluded. This is not a party political thing, this is a male thing.

Agreed, anyone who sends dick pics or nudes is a fool.

TheABC · 05/04/2024 10:48

At this point I want to call the vets and sedate the whole Tory party to avoid further embarrassment.

There's no bar any more. It's now a deep, deep pit that's stinking to high heaven.

Yep.

It takes a special kind of idiocy to think that it is OK to do this when you are an MP, though. The possibility of blackmail is hardly remote, it it?

fabio12 · 05/04/2024 10:50

It's interesting to me how both were called Conservative Friends of Russia/Conservative Friends of Israel and both countries have illegal wars we are completely ignoring. I mean I know Blair was ousted after the Iraq war but still...we're happy with genocide?

In other male news, anyone see the poor man who was spiked and raped, woke up covered in blood? I am hopeful this new "awareness" that it might actually affect men could result in some changes to the law around rape (anyone else a fan of Prima Facie?).

Quite. And the narrative "he's a victim of cyber crime" just shows how much society condones male sexual incontinence.

I'd call it out whatever the affiliation.. i used to have fairly have security clearance, just being in a Whatsapp group was questioned, my referee was spoken to at length about all levels of my private life.

That MPs are not subject to this level of scrutiny is beyond me.

I wonder if Wragg & others defending him, would call someone stealing to feed their family an "idiot/stupid/victim/foolish?

But he is a Tory, he is bringing his party into (further) disrepute and if it leads to more people not voting Tory, then i suppose every cloud has a silver lining.

DuncinToffee · 05/04/2024 12:40

Hunt is calling Wragg's apology 'courageous and fulsome'

The bar is set so very low.

All I'm saying is that you will find a few Labour MPs and examples of similar idiocy. They aren't in the papers on this one, but they aren't above it, and I can imagine it crosse's all political classes and always has. Men are very stupid about sex and particularly many MPs
