I have managed, after much googling, to work out what is happening in picture 3.

Bizarre.

A good start, then the slide.

Yesterday's weird one, with what looked like a small glass-topped hearse being given a military and ceremonious escort into the rere of Edinburgh Castle in front of a very very small crowd was the - - - - - return of the Stone of Scone.

Okay, I feel a bit better about my complete failure to guess the date.

I do appreciate the other speculative stories about Monday's weird one. At one stage the only significant royal thing from that year that I could find was the Charles and Diana divorce and I wondered about some wifely Scottish regalia being returned to its safe. Faithful corgi funerals and secret diplomatic visits by a micro-Pope fit right in. And are no dippier that what was actually happening.
