Things you simply cannot be arsed with anymore

Now I'm in my 40s there's so much I simply can't be arsed with and I don't know if this is normal -I am hitting meno a bit early for medical reasons as confirmed by my doc. Here are a few things I recently threw in the fuck-it bucket:

Fiddly care instructions on clothes: like 'Can only be dry cleaned on a tuesday in the rain by a man whose name begins with S' who has the FUCKING TIME if it isn't easycare it's basically out of my life at this point.

Guilt guilt and more guilt about whatever standard for women I'm failing to hit this week. This is my face/body/newly grey hair piss off.

Over-fawning socialised bs at work or what I call the F-email, you know, where you have to put friendly little exclamation marks and non-confrontational jollity on every damn thing because women can't be to-the-point and factual without being hag bitches. No problem if not!

Most men and whatever they're doing. Do it somewhere over there and be quieter while you're doing it thanks.

Pandering to everyone's different hurt political feelings, I am an adult and can respectfully disagree on an issue. I understand how incredibly emotive a lot of what's going on in the world is, but I no longer have time for 'your opinion upsets me and that makes you a bad human being, actually'

Anyway - gosh yes reading that back I can see why they're talking about HRT 😳

Is this normal for meno? Did you hit 40 and throw half your life in the fuck-it-bucket?

Thought of another one - noisy crowded bars!

ALongHardWinter · 09/05/2024 23:43

I CBA with reading long spiels that have no full stops, commas or paragraphs, and every third word is spelt incorrectly. There's a particular app I use that seems to particularly attract people who write like this. Now I don't even bother trying to make sense of them.

ALongHardWinter · 09/05/2024 23:51

Just remembered another one. Space Invaders. Not the computer game from the 80s,I'm referring to people. Seems to be increasingly common nowadays, not just men,but women too. It seems like I can't stand in a queue in a shop,or at a bus stop without someone standing so close up my arse I can feel their breath on the back of my head. I used to just (angrily) tolerate it but now I move away,or turn around and look at them. Usually does the trick.

Can’t stand being seated so close to other diners in restaurants that they may as well be at the same table. No chance of any sort of private conversation.

Or the bane of my life, Americanised spellings .

Cooking. Feckin cooking.

I think housework is worse than cooking, but really all
of it. Just domestic servitude, and I wish I could outsource it.

I can’t be arsed with it either. I’m very fortunate though because my husband enjoys it and he’s a brilliant cook, so I still get to eat delicious, home cooked food 😃

I fucking loath housework 🤮

the80sweregreat · 10/05/2024 16:52

I'd rather clean , iron , do anything rather than cook! It's necessity I know of course , but not keen on it or any fancy cooking with loads of ingredients.

I'm too old to be set objectives at work
High heels
Small pants
Man made fabrics
Ironing

This thread has cheered me (F46) up no end. Got given a mediocre appraisal by a much younger, far less effective but much more senior man at work on Fri. Was upset for a bit as it is genuinely unfair for reasons I won't bore on about. Now definitely chucking that shit in the fuckit bucket. Am too old to give a toss about his effing objectives for me or his opinions.

Sounds like the peri-menopausal wives of Red Hot Chili Pepper’s latest release.

Pedallleur · 23/03/2025 22:04

Epdr/appraisal/not closed enough tickets today but closed 50 yesterday so what's the issue? On site meeting every week now (1 day) that isn't mandatory and people on more money don't want to come to because they are WFH. I don't want to hear you complaining.

Would you not take the parcels round to your neighbours? It’s hardly a huge effort.

the80sweregreat · 24/03/2025 06:49

I gave up on ironing years ago , unless it’s a real emergency. Ditto dry clean only clothes.
I did start with false nails for around five minutes in 2016, but the cost put me off and that was scrapped.
I have never liked cooking ,but Dh doesn’t mind it.
like a clean up and seeing things clean and tidy, so that has stayed !

Would the neighbours not collect the parcels THEY ordered? It's hardly a huge effort.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/03/2025 07:31

Whoever said they loathe housework, same. I do the minimum. Long past meno now and have given zero fucks about so many things for ages, especially doing anything I don’t want to do because I feel I ought to want to.

Recently declined a very long haul holiday with mega jet lag because of how much I loathe v long flights/jet lag. They’re all going without me and I have zero regrets.

Seizethedog · 24/03/2025 07:48

I agree about housework. I’ve finally caved and decided to get a cleaner. I just can’t face it anymore. Cooking is now reduced to several different stock meals on rotation. This thread has made me feel less inadequate. I’ve got back problems, OH has hand problems and failing eyesight doesn’t help.

People

Middlemarch123 · 24/03/2025 20:53

I’m early 60s and have been like this since mid fifties, it’s so liberating.
A few years ago at my work appraisal, the Head Teacher asked me where I saw myself in five years time. “Retired “ was my quick response. She got a bit flustered, like I should have spouted some BS about aspiring to join SLT. I retired last summer, so I finally reached that target.

Asked by a neighbour I’m always polite to, but don’t really know,if I wanted to go out with her and her friends for a drink thing, said I wouldn’t be able to. She pushed for a reason, so I said “because I don’t want to.” She laughed and said “fair enough “.

You’re all great, there are some amazing people in our lives, knowing the ones worth supporting and loving is invaluable. The rest can jog on.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 24/03/2025 21:25

Keeping up with the Joneses
Smiling at people I can't stand just because their child is at school with my child.
Looking interested when I'm not
Putting up with people's homophobic/racist/sexist bull
Holding the door for dickheads who can't say thanks.
Ironing
Dusting
Lazy people
People who slag NHS but still use it even though it's terrible according to them.
People who talk about make up. Nope.
I'm 45. And I absolutely agree with your list op.

Fillybuster · 24/03/2025 22:56

Arrghh. Overly invested in a zombie thread. But for once, am so here for all of it.

Thanks for the resurrection @mrsbojangles2 😂

Thighdentitycrisis · 24/03/2025 23:17

@Elsewhere123
I also follow the CBA approach that is cognitive behavioural apathy
