I didn’t realise until recently that people use one term or the other. If you say one of these terms, which one is it?

I say one, friend says another, we are both convinced our way is said more than the other.

People who say can't be asked are wrong and have misheard the expression

Halfwayuporhalfwaydown · 21/03/2024 12:22

I've never heard asked. It's definitely wrong.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 21/03/2024 12:22

ARSED! Obviously as the other doesn't mean anything!

Funkyslippers · 21/03/2024 12:22

Never heard the 2nd one, doesn't make any sense

SnakesAndArrows · 21/03/2024 12:23

Arsed. If you’re a northerner it’s very obviously arsed.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 21/03/2024 12:23

Arsed.

Asked doesn't make sense.

WhatNoRaisins · 21/03/2024 12:23

I'd imagine any who hears asked is a sweet type who rarely or never swears.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 21/03/2024 12:23

Arsed.

Asked doesn't make sense.

Well neither does arsed really, does it. But it’s definitely arsed.

Desecratedcoconut · 21/03/2024 12:25

It's arsed.

Helpisso · 21/03/2024 12:25

Can’t be ARSED was my darling Mums favourite expression she would have been 94this month. Use this expression daily ,cannot understand why anyone would think it was asked 🤦‍♀️

INeedToClingToSomething · 21/03/2024 12:26

"Can't be asked". Can't be asked what? That makes zero sense if your meaning is "can't be bothered". The phrase is "can't be arsed".

SnakesAndArrows · 21/03/2024 12:24

Well neither does arsed really, does it. But it’s definitely arsed.

It means something like can't be bothered to move my arse

Peridot1 · 21/03/2024 12:27

It’s definitely arsed. As other have said asked just doesn’t make sense.

CatrionaCat · 21/03/2024 12:27

arsed

Spirallingdownwards · 21/03/2024 12:28

Can't be arsed is the phrase meaning can't be bothered to do something .

Whoever is arguing can't be asked is incorrect.

Hoplolly · 21/03/2024 12:28

Are you sure they're not saying 'assed' rather than 'asked'

senua · 21/03/2024 12:28

SnakesAndArrows · 21/03/2024 12:24

Well neither does arsed really, does it. But it’s definitely arsed.

"Can't be arsed" makes sense. It's shorthand for "can't be bothered to get up off my arse and do whatever it is"

HelpMeGetThrough · 21/03/2024 12:28

SnakesAndArrows · 21/03/2024 12:23

Arsed. If you’re a northerner it’s very obviously arsed.

Same if you're a Southerner. Used it in a meeting today.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/03/2024 12:29

Arsed.

Can't be asked is nonsense - of course you can be asked literally anything. I can be asked to jump over the empire state building or give birth to a litter of kittens! I can't DO it, but there's nothing stopping someone asking! Confused

Tessisme · 21/03/2024 12:29

Asked? Ya what? Of course it isn't😆

OrigamiStar · 21/03/2024 12:30

MiltonNorthern · 21/03/2024 12:21

People who say can't be asked are wrong and have misheard the expression

Yes. As with ‘off their own back’ and ‘to have another thing coming’. These are misunderstandings, like ‘Chester draws’.

TeabySea · 21/03/2024 12:31

It's can't be arsed. Asked makes no sense - of course you can be asked.

SofaSpuds · 21/03/2024 12:32

I'm team Arsed

I can't understand where asked came from 🤔
Come on OP, own up which one you are!! And if you're asked, please explain why??

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/03/2024 12:32

I've just repeatedly said asked in a sentence and I'm slightly alarmed that I don't seem to vocalise the K very much at all, it's more of a longer sss, so when I say 'asked' in casual conversation it must sound very much like arsed!! 😂 Something I think I'll try to change!
