I'm 5 foot 2, weigh 54kg, what size is my waist?

I would be interested to hear guesses or what you think it usually would be! I struggle a lot to get jeans, trousers and leggings to fit me because the rest of me is in proportion but the waist/ stomach is a different story.

No idea some people carry weight on their waist and it’s very bad as an indicator for health issues including type 2 diabetes. Thinking of myself though and I’m 2 inches taller, it should be under 30 for sure. Mine is about 28 post menopausal and weighing more than you.

HotChocWine · 21/03/2024 09:35

How could we possibly know?

lulign · 21/03/2024 09:37

Obviously I know what it is! I'm asking what people think it is likely to be/ should be given my height and weight.

lulign · 21/03/2024 09:38

Yes @ViciousCurrentBun I do worry about that and type 2 runs in my family. So not just a clothes shopping issue.

My guess is somewhere between absolutely teeny tiny and gargantuan.

Yearendjoy · 21/03/2024 09:43

It should be less than half your height to be healthy so 31 inches.

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 21/03/2024 09:43

I would say 24 to 26, maybe 27 during a period or after a big meal.

NavyPeer · 21/03/2024 09:44

even if you are all limbs and an apple shape can’t see how it could be more than 30 inches at that weight.

I’m your height, 65kg, pear shaped and I have a flat stomach. I am a size 10 all over. I wear a 28 inch waist in jeans in and other fitted clothes.

Comedycook · 21/03/2024 09:45

Between 28-30inches?

Comedycook · 21/03/2024 09:46

I've always thought the typical slim 24 inch waist was a myth. I took a tape measure once and looked at what 24 inches was as a circumference....even the thinnest women I know wouldn't have that waist. It looked doll like.

ErinAoife · 21/03/2024 09:47

32 inches

OwlBasket · 21/03/2024 09:47

If you’re worrying about waist size at that weight, it sounds like you probably have a tiny frame and a tendency to apple shape.

Im 5,3 with a huge frame (man sized hands etc) and a tendency to apple shape. I’m 59kg at the moment, life has been shit lately. Waist 27,5. At 54kg I’d be very unwell. There’s no point in this sort of comparison.

Waist should be half of height or less

Turquoisa80 · 21/03/2024 09:50

I'm 5foot1 and at that weight my waist was 26/27 inches

MarnieLane · 21/03/2024 09:51

I am the same height and weight as you. I buy jeans in a 26 inch waist.

AdoraBell · 21/03/2024 09:54

No clue, depends on your shape and build.

lulign · 21/03/2024 09:58

Gosh this is very interesting. I appreciate there is a lot of individual variation. So without having eaten a meal and standing very straight, it's 29 inches. If I relax a bit it's more like 30 inches. I used to be a size 8 or 10 in trousers but increasingly these don't fit around the waist and a 12 is too big in other places. I have a very small frame.

I've recently returned to exercising again and have had a lot of difficulty getting leggings that fit comfortably. I'm currently trying to stop myself from buying a pair of Lululemon because I made the mistake of trying them on and they were the only pair of many that don't feel like torture. And that's in a UK size 12.

I know it's not that big a deal. I just would like to have an in proportion waist and as I'm mid 40s realistically I'm likely to keep adding more to my middle and there are health risks that go with that.

Mine is 24 inches first thing in the morning when I'm mid cycle.

lulign · 21/03/2024 10:00

The staff member in the Lululemon shop corrected me when I picked that size to try on and gave me the size lower! She obviously couldn't see my belly under my coat 😂

I'm almost the same weight and height am pear-shaped. Small waist, all my weight is on my bum. As I'm about 27cm , your probably about 30-32cm, if you carry your weight there.

Guavafish1 · 21/03/2024 10:14

32-34 inch

I am 57, so not inevitable that your waist will change.

Not everyone gains weight in menopause. I'm 5' 9" and have a 28" waist. I'm 53.

lulign · 21/03/2024 10:42

That’s incredible @MarnieLane I don’t think I even had a 26 inch waist in my 20s when I was less than 8 stone

OP posts:
bradpittsbathwater · 21/03/2024 10:44

I'm a bit heavier than that now but mine was about 26 inches at that weight. I've always had a smaller waist though.

Exactly what I was thinking 😅
