I'm 5 foot 2, weigh 54kg, what size is my waist?

I would be interested to hear guesses or what you think it usually would be! I struggle a lot to get jeans, trousers and leggings to fit me because the rest of me is in proportion but the waist/ stomach is a different story.

do you get bloated? Drink alcohol? Might be why your waist is a little bigger than you would like. It's at a healthy level for your height, right at the end of it though. theres some interesting studies on apple cider vinegar in water before meals to help reduce waist circumference.

lulign · 21/03/2024 10:57

I don’t drink alcohol at all and very little sugar. I sometimes get bloated but not too badly. I would say as diets go mine is pretty good, very little junk food. I am going to investigate apple cider vinegar! Thank you!

@Comedycook my waist was 24 inches till after I had my second child in my thirties.

Menopause changed my body shape the most though, waist expanded to 28 and my bust went up two cup sizes which I absolutely hate.

Pinkywoo · 21/03/2024 17:32

I'm the same height and when I weighed that my waist was 26", I'm hourglass shaped though so will be different to an apple.

YouHaveAnArse · 21/03/2024 17:38

Just buy a tape measure? Poundland sell them.

TakingTheHorseToFrance · 21/03/2024 17:39

I'm 5ft 2 and weigh just over 9 stone and am a size 8 to 10. So you are lighter than me but bigger dress size. My waist is approx 32".

I have a bit of a tummy (4 kids) but nothing very flabby, generally in proportion with big boots my ideal weight is 8st 11ish

BlueChocolate · 21/03/2024 17:42

My waist is 24. Was 22 pre dc . I’m 5’10 and 9 stone

londoner72 · 21/03/2024 17:44

I'm the same height and weight and my waist is 26 inches!

EasterBunnny · 21/03/2024 18:31

I’m five feet one, 70kg and my waist is 29.
When I was in my early 20’s it was 23 inch.

ltappleby · 21/03/2024 19:09

32 inches, as you say you struggle to find clothes that fit, should be 27 ish

DelphiniumBlue · 21/03/2024 19:18

Comedycook · 21/03/2024 09:46

I've always thought the typical slim 24 inch waist was a myth. I took a tape measure once and looked at what 24 inches was as a circumference....even the thinnest women I know wouldn't have that waist. It looked doll like.

It used to be standard - I had a 25" waist at about 9 stone/5'4, most of my friends were slimmer ( in our 20s and pre DC). Think I was a size 12 on a good day, 14 if I went up to 9.5.

Thank you for the replies, this is really an eye opener! I'm starting to wonder if there's some kind of creature growing in there. There's no baby but maybe some kind of alien or something. I don't carry weight anywhere else at all.

I was about to guess 29inches and I saw that’s what you actually are. That doesn’t sound like a massively big waist. It just sounds like you carry your weight around your waist area. But many of us do.

I’m 5ft 2 and when I was around 57kg I think my waist was 26 inches.

I’m now 31.5 inches and 70Kg which I’m actually quite pleased about as it went right up to 39 inches (!) during the pandemic when I was 2 stone heavier. Would like to get down to 28 inches eventually.

Sadik · 21/03/2024 20:33

I'm 5'2", weigh 49kg, waist is 29". It's a pain for buying clothes, but it's just the shape I am.

I'm 54, & have a little bit of a potbelly, but not much, & my waist wasn't much below 28" when I weighed 45kg (& was definitely too thin) a few years back.

I don't know about you, but I'm relatively short in the body /long in the legs, & I think maybe there just isn't much space between my ribs & my hips for a waist! I also figure it's definitely less than half my height (the health guide) & I'm fit & active, so why worry.

UnaOfStormhold · 21/03/2024 20:37

Also 54kg, a fraction shorter, mostly size 8, waist is 26in/66cm. If your waist is less than half yor height it's probably fine, just that people carry their weight differently. I've always been an hourglass, still hanging onto that at 47.

crostini · 21/03/2024 20:41

Yeah you're obviously a healthy weight and BMI, so that's interesting.

I'm same hight as you but 60kg atm and I have 26 inch waist. I have chubby legs though I think that's where I hold most fat.

It's probably just your genetic shape. I've got a small waist but I'm very much an hourglass. I've got the golden ratio on the waist to hip size, which is probably fairly unusual.

You definitely couldn't diet your way into having my figure. It's just the way I am built.

rainbowbee · 21/03/2024 20:51

At 40 and 5'4 (don't get on scales any more but wear an 8-10) my waist can be 28 inches or it can be 30 if I have premenstrual bloat/ eaten a pile of bread.
At 26 and 7 stone it was 25 inches, sometimes 27 for the same reasons as above.
For me, weight goes on face, boobs and thighs and they can vary a lot more, but my arms don't really change and nor does my midriff.
Bodies are just different.

Horsewhisperers · 21/03/2024 21:00

I'm the same height and weight as you with a waist of 32", which I know is large but don't see what I can do. If I lose 2kg, with a BMI of 20, I will go down to 31".
When I was a 45kg teen my waist was 26". I think it is just my natural shape as, like @Sadik, I have a short body and long legs.

I'm not trying to scare you but the last time a person started a thread like this, it turned out that she sadly had ovarian cancer and has since passed away 😞. I'm sure it's nothing but if you're concerned or have any other symptoms, or if this is a drastic change, maybe book an appointment with the doctor?

Otherwise stick with the exercise and you will see results, even if it's a gradual process! I'm 41 now and my body has definitely changed, and my waist has gained an inch or so over the past several years and boobs have gotten bigger which I hate. I just think in general it's a thing that often happens to women as they age.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 21/03/2024 21:32

Everyone is a different shape so hard to say. You're my height and what I used to weight. My waist was around 27-28 inch

3luckystars · 21/03/2024 21:35

I was around that weight getting married and am same height, and remember my wedding dress was 25 inches waist.

3luckystars · 21/03/2024 21:43

That’s my leg measurement now 😂

Catsandcuddles · 21/03/2024 21:50

It really depends on your bodyshape, an hourglass or pear shape is going to have a more defined waist than someone who is a rectangle body shape for example

woahboy · 21/03/2024 22:14

lulign · 21/03/2024 10:42

That’s incredible @MarnieLane I don’t think I even had a 26 inch waist in my 20s when I was less than 8 stone

Ok then it's just your build. Some people just don't have a waist. Look at Florence Pugh and Meghan Markle. Slim women who just don't have a waist.

Most women get thicker as we due to cervical shortening and a change in fat distribution. Even if there is not much fat, the fat there is will often end up on the mid section.
