Has anyone ever heard of such a problem post-birth? (TMI and embarrassing warning!)

I'm trying to get over the embarrassment to seek medical help for this, but it's not something I've ever heard of anyone else happening and it didn't happen to me after the first two times I gave birth!

I gave birth to my DD3 in December - she was premature and I had a very, very fast and slightly traumatic labour. She is doing amazingly now (although she doesn't seem to need to sleep, like, ever) and I am okay too. But ever since the birth I've had a problem passing urine. It's like I just don't feel any urge and I only feel I need to go when I have a really full bladder. I do feel uncomfortable at that point and sometimes it is painful.

Then, even when I get to that point, it's really hard to wee. I end up sitting for 20 mins trying to wee and when I do it's just like a trickle, not a proper flow.

I don't know why but I'm too ashamed to tell anyone in real life. I can't get the courage up! I had quite bad 'baby blues' after DD's birth and although I don't feel it was ever really depression, I've lost confidence a bit. I know I need to go to the doctor, but I'm just so embarrassed and it feels like it must be somehow my fault...

How did the KIT day go @Kirova ?

Kirova · 03/05/2024 19:48

It actually went well, thank you! I was so exhausted afterwards, though.

Work-wise, everything was good and it was nice to catch up and get up to speed with things. I was in a bit of pain with my back by the end of the day and I was anxious about the bladder/bowel side of things because the bowel routine I have at the moment still isn't working perfectly and I was scared I'd not be able to get to a toilet in time! But that side of things was more or less okay (with a couple of slightly dangerous moments).

I am questioning if I can go back to my previous hours though. I was doing full time but with compressed hours (basically 5 days in 4) but I really wonder if I might ask about potentially dropping a day or even 2.

Hey everyone! I know I'm reviving a "dead thread" but I just wanted to post a small update. I've gone back to work on a 0.6 for the moment and everything is going well. I'm working hard at physio and gradually getting less back pain and more leg strength, so things are going well. Unfortunately my bladder and bowel function is no better, but I've managed to get into a better routine and I am coping with it. I have a bit of anxiety around it when I'm doing anything unusual, but it is manageable. The worst thing is that it's still just unreliable at times, and I worry about doing social things or having work meetings first thing in the morning!

Really I'm just posting this in case anyone who went through or goes through something similar might read it. To offer some reassurance that it does get easier and it is possible to get back to normal life even when you don't recover fully!

Meanwhile, DD3 is going from strength to strength - she's meeting her milestones for her non-adjusted age except for being still on the teeny tiny side, so I feel like I must have done something right! And the other two are dragging their way towards the end of the school year. (It honestly can't come soon enough for them or for me!)

@Kirova thanks for the update. You sound like you’re coping amazingly and it’s lovely to hear that your 3 dc are all doing so well too

SuncreamAndIceCream · 15/07/2024 21:40

Lovely to hear from you @Kirova

Sorry to hear it's a bit of a mixed picture but I'm glad the pain is starting to improve.

Hope you have a great summer & enjoy a bit of a rest
