Do you have a "white whale" band/performer?

As in are you a gig goer who has one (or more) bands/performers that they really want(ed) to see but for some reason it never happened?

For me it was Pearl Jam but i finally got to see them at BST in 2022. The only other band i think i would have liked to see who i haven't were Talking Heads.

Anyone else?

Brand New. They hardly ever tour anymore.

I’ve seen most of my wishlist, but I’m the type that will travel wherever to see an artist I love.

beguilingeyes · 15/03/2024 15:37

Van Halen in their pomp. Amy Winehouse.
I've seen pretty much everyone else. I finally got to see Bob Seger in the US a few years ago.

Gizlotsmum · 15/03/2024 15:38

Nirvana, screaming trees, have seen most others on my wish list.

Not sure this will count, but Sam fender. I was meant to see him at the start of 2020 but it got cancelled due to Covid. Now it's impossible to get tickets for him

insidenumber4 · 15/03/2024 15:50

A few years ago a group of friends and I got tickets to see Bon Iver which was definitely one of those bucket list gigs. However he cancelled the tour before we got to go! We were devastated. Maybe one day in the future we might get our chance again!

@MrsHughesPinny thank you for reminding me about Brand New, I used to listen to them a lot and will search them out again!

Mark lanegan sadly passed away a couple of years ago but I did manage to see him on his own. I would've loved to see type o negative with Pete Steele or pantera (I've seen down which was brilliant but obviously not the same!).

Conniethecatapillar · 15/03/2024 16:13

Nirvana and Alice in Chains! I was born a little too late and missed the boat. I have seen Brand New as a support act for someone but I can't remember who.

I saw AIC in 2019. Obviously not the same without the original line up (layne Staley was incredible) but they were bloody fantastic all the same.

stcrispinsday · 15/03/2024 16:32

Fred Again. The tickets to every gig sell out in nano seconds. I don't know how I'll ever get to see him!

Onand · 15/03/2024 16:36

Michael Jackson
Whitney
The Rolling Stones

CreepyDave · 15/03/2024 16:37

Oasis and Wham! (bit of a contrast!)

laddersandsnakes12 · 15/03/2024 16:40

Prince, so gutted that he's not around anymore to perform his classic songs.

Mark lanegan (spelling) died a couple of years ago, I think they stopped before that..

Saw type o negative years ago and met Pete at a signing

SwedishEdith · 15/03/2024 16:45

Talking Heads is a good one. But John Prine for me. I had tickets then he cancelled because he needed an operation. He went back to the US, caught covid and died 😢

Stickthatupyourdojo · 15/03/2024 16:49

@Gizlotsmum oh wow that's fab. Was he beautiful in real life?

He was and a total gentleman!

Bassetlover · 15/03/2024 17:10

The Smiths

stayathomer · 15/03/2024 17:11

Queen. Only with Freddie. After that Olivia Rodrigo-I’d assume I’ll never be able to actually get tickets for her!

LifeAfterBurnout · 15/03/2024 17:13

God yes to those saying Type O…. Absolutely love Pete 🖤💚

BobbyBiscuits · 15/03/2024 17:18

Pearl jam and talking Heads..those would've been epic! I would've loved to have seen Nirvana back in the day as was a massive fan. My bf at the time had tickets for their Brixton gig in 94 which never happened for obvious reasons. I think he may well still have the ticket and cherish it to this day. Haha
I went to see Sepultura on their last tour with Max and he signed my ticket. That was awesome. I'd have loved to have seen Pantera too back in the 90s. Can't remember why that never happened.

Elodie9 · 15/03/2024 17:25

As per PP, Queen, but only with Freddie.
My consolation is I saw David Bowie, and also Bruce in Paris on an unforgettable sultry evening in July. The memories keep an old lady very happy,
Would love to see Sam Fender though as he is an amazing young man in the vein of a NE Springsteen who will absolutely have career longevity.

mewkins · 15/03/2024 17:35

I have some 'must haves' on my list if the opportunity arises:

REM if they reform (although I've seen them twice before)
Radiohead (though I have seen the Smile)
Neil Young
The Rolling Stones (seen once before, would like to again if I can afford the tickets)
Paul McC (as above).

mewkins · 15/03/2024 17:36

Oh and Queen - I would go and see them with Adam Lambert actually. It will be a good show regardless.
