Do you have a "white whale" band/performer?

As in are you a gig goer who has one (or more) bands/performers that they really want(ed) to see but for some reason it never happened?

For me it was Pearl Jam but i finally got to see them at BST in 2022. The only other band i think i would have liked to see who i haven't were Talking Heads.

Anyone else?

I have some 'must haves' on my list if the opportunity arises:

REM if they reform (although I've seen them twice before)
Radiohead (though I have seen the Smile)
Neil Young
The Rolling Stones (seen once before, would like to again if I can afford the tickets)
Paul McC (as above).

have seen all except McCartney - funnily enough I've never had a desire to see him although Wings Over America is the best live album.

We had tickets to see REM in a tiny place in the 80s, cancelled due to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Then we had tickets to see them in a tiny place in the early 90s but cancelled due to brain anyurism. Finally saw them at an open air, with Oasis and the Cranberries as support.

The Stones, seen them a few times, last time Voodoo Lounge tour. They were awful. Saw Queen with Freddie yonks and yonks ago (i was still at school so pre 1982) and saw them with Adam Lambert a couple of years ago. Totally different thing, kind of like a Queen tribute band. Pretty good fun.

Brand New. They hardly ever tour anymore.

I’ve seen most of my wishlist, but I’m the type that will travel wherever to see an artist I love.

I managed to see them when they toured with Biffy in 2016 and they were great. I would loved to have seen them on their own tour though.

darumafan · 15/03/2024 17:57

Prince
Tom Petty
Soundgarden
Stone Temple Pilots, I saw Velvet Revolver but I would have loved to see these.

WaveAcrossTheBay · 15/03/2024 18:08

Nirvana
Frightened Rabbit

Very different music, but I love them both. Discovered them both too late. I am too young for Nirvana, but I am really sad that I didn’t know about Frightened Rabbit.

As per PP, Queen, but only with Freddie.
My consolation is I saw David Bowie, and also Bruce in Paris on an unforgettable sultry evening in July. The memories keep an old lady very happy,
Would love to see Sam Fender though as he is an amazing young man in the vein of a NE Springsteen who will absolutely have career longevity.

It's Bruce for me.

I saw David Bowie, and I've seen others on this thread, but I think Bruce is the only one I'd go to a concert for now.

Giggorata · 15/03/2024 18:15

Corvus Corax. They almost never come to the UK and when they do, it's almost always at a festival I can't get to.

Edited

Yes my bf saw Queen with AL a year or so ago and said it was brilliant and well done with lots of nice moments. I've seen Brian and Roger before at something else.

Paul McCartney puts on a good show even though his voice is a bit of a struggle now. He has a great band.

imnotsickbutimnotwell · 15/03/2024 18:39

I would like to have seen Type O Negative. I did not realise Pete had passed away. Also would like to see Ghost and In This Moment. I love the band Rush and saw them many times but sadly now Neil Peart is no longer with us he was an amazing drummer.

Saw Prince at Hammersmith Apollo …he was fantastic.

memememe · 15/03/2024 18:39

I've got tickets for pearl jam this summer :)
i would have loved to see acdc in their prime and the same for gnr!

beguilingeyes · 15/03/2024 19:09

Queen with Freddie was my first concert. Bristol Hippodrome 1977. Saw them nine times after that. Last time was Live Aid. Saw them a few times with Paul Rodgers, which was fantastic. Can't face the AL thing.
I had tickets for Nirvana in Kilburn and didn't go....
I've always wondered if it wasn't for fucking Mark Chapman The Beatles might have done Live Aid.
Ella Fitzgerald played the Albert Hall in 1990. Where the hell was I. Can you imagine

beguilingeyes · 15/03/2024 19:09

Oh yes. AC/DC with Bon Scott.

CreepyDave · 15/03/2024 19:21

@mewkins I've seen Queen with Adam Lambert. It was excellent. We saw them at the 02, the atmosphere was fab.

creeashun · 15/03/2024 19:30

Dexys midnight Runners. Wanted to see them for years and when they were going to tour the lead singer had a motorbike crash and the tour was cancelled. Heard they were touring again and I was so excited to finally be getting to hear Searching for the Young Soul Rebels... but... it was a new look and a concept album. Got the set list and none of the old stuff was being played. So it's still not happened

YES! On my list too. Apparently the last tour they did the concept album (feminine divine ?) But then at the end, each night they did a good selection of oldies. The reviews said it was bizarre and excellent. I really wish I'd gone! I love all of Don't Stand me Down etc.

creeashun · 15/03/2024 19:49

Oh @mewkins you're literally the first person I've ever met who likes them still! Maybe I should have gone.

Oof, I bet that was brilliant. I’ve seen Biffy four or five times and they’re one of my favourite live acts to see.

HRTQueen · 15/03/2024 21:16

Frank Sinatra mid 60’s when he was at his best in Vegas of course
Aretha Franklin would love to have heard Dr Feelgood live have heard live versions spine tingling
Queen with Freddie

Best concerts I have been to are Michael Jackson, Prince, James Brown and Rolling Stones. Michael Jackson is the best performer I have seen Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Usher just do not come close

PGmicstand · 15/03/2024 21:19

I wanted to see Mark Lanegan perform solo. Unfortunately that didn't work out, but I did see him sing with QOTSA years and years ago, so I did hear him in person

Also wanted to see Midnight Oil. Managed it finally, 2 years ago on their farewell tour.

Pixies are next on my list but all the tickets I've seen are beyond my budget.

bigbadbarry · 15/03/2024 21:26

Yeah, the Pixies and I ticked them off this week!

SiobhanSharpe · 15/03/2024 21:27

Really sad that I missed the Who in their 60s heyday, onstage fights, guitar/amp smashing and all.
The film clip of them onstage playing at Woodstock is great, though.
I did see the Stones twice in the 60s, the original lineup with Brian Jones, Mick, Keef, Bill and Charlie.

Floralnomad · 15/03/2024 21:34

Wham , seen everyone else that I wanted to . I did see George Michael 3 or 4 times just not as Wham . Saw Queen on the Magic tour at Wembley , went to Live Aid etc .

Jellykat · 15/03/2024 21:44

Wish i'd seen The Clash, and B52s ..

They're an acquired taste but I love them. I love listening to interviews with KR too.
