I'm not going to say 'I told you so' to posters on here who insisted this was a simple & genuine family snap. To trust the narrative presented is the default and most people don't want to be cynical unless forced to be.

But the RF and their promoters have lied to the public, and patronised them, far too often over the years for me to take anything at face value now. I am old enough to remember reading the European press in the mid 80s when travelling about the problems in Charles & Diana's marriage, and scornfully assuming that I knew better from the UK press at the time that they were blissfully happy. It just didn't occur to me at the time that the UK media were lying to us with the RF's connivance; that they thought the public had no right to the truth about this family, despite them being publicly funded.

I am actually quite concerned for Kate now; the RF & advisers have a track record after all for treating the 'married-ins' very poorly.

Their PR is just breathtaking in its ineptitude - all the speculation about Kate already and so they go and throw petrol on the fire. I'm afraid that this also reflects really badly on Prince William personally, who supposedly took the picture and let it be published knowing it was inaccurate.

This is where a good working relationship with H and M would have been priceless. They could be out and about right now distracting everyone, allowing whatever's going on in the background to be dealt with privately.

Feel there was massive shortsightedness all round.

I agree with this.

Maybe the photo has been put out there by the Russians or something and they can’t admit they have been hacked to this level until they find out who and how.

Or it’s something major, or nothing in the grand scheme of things.

It's Putin's fault

If it's so unheard of to issue a kill notice then it makes me think the press are being manipulative. Like "tell us more" or we will feed the conspiracy theories, just watch us.

For once they are upholding standards. We cannot have images in the press that are not true. How woukd you ever believe what you see otherwise, how could you believe pictures of war, famine etc are true if they start to allow heavily doctored images, images that are not real

Noone is against some light touching editing, hide a spot or a wrinkle who cares but to fundamentally make up a picture isn't right

It's why there have been laws starting to go into place stating if an image is AI generated it must be captioned as such.

This is bigger issue here and the RF or their PR have really messed up here. They are just making it all so much more worse.

nonumbersinthisname · 11/03/2024 08:23

I’ve no idea why KP didn’t hold the line of “fuck off it’s not Easter yet”. When you’re in the limelight as much as the PoW is I can well imagine wanting to keep hold of any shred of privacy and dignity that’s possible. But they’ve scored a totally unnecessary own goal by releasing this photo. It’s going to be the Streisand Effect in full glory - the story is now going to be the photo and wHaT iS rEaLlY gOiNG on?!

i can only assume the really experienced old hands in the RF PR machine retired when QEII died and there people in position now don’t really get the full extent of the circumstances around RF PR. I hope the poor woman can be allowed as much time as she needs to recover from her surgery.

Sparrow7 · 11/03/2024 08:24

My mum used to say when I was a child that it's ok to lie if you crossed your fingers. I've seen these kids cross their fingers in other pics too. I wonder if they are not in the mood and forced to be happy for photos, they are crossing their fingers because it's a lie.

It's a family snap. The 'new agencies' have massively overreacted over a cuff fgs.

Can you not see how no one will take them seriously if they 'kill' photos over such stupid crap??

I really hope KP release another pic, with a lined up cuff and a massive eyeroll emoji.

LoreleiG · 11/03/2024 08:27

I honestly have no idea why you are all so mystified as to what they could be ‘covering up’. She’s been very ill - as they have indicated - and they are protecting her desire for privacy during her stated recovery period - in this case with a badly photoshopped photo that everyone was whining about not getting, so they gave it. It’s not rocket science.

In what way do you think this photo is not true?

There's always photos of celebrities that have been airbrushed, are those acceptable?

It's not just a cuff though the image is doctored.more than that enough for it to be killed. It's their rules they are just cheering to them and to be honest shame on them for trying to manipulate images like that. Presenting something that isn't true and wanting people to believe it
Slippery slope.

MrsMitford3 · 11/03/2024 08:31

Isn't photoshopping a photo like this done all of the time?

I seem to recall a picture-maybe christmas card? when Louis had an extra finger or something? Think most are tweaked now?

Meadowfinch · 11/03/2024 08:31

I find the whole fuss profoundly ill mannered and ignorant.

The woman has had abdo surgery, a personal and private matter. Nobody's business but her own. She, quite reasonably, needs time to recover and wants to be left in peace. Why doesn't everyone just f**k off and leave her alone. They said she wouldn't be back until after Easter.

I had abdo surgey and had 7 weeks off work. And I'm not royal, I had a mortgage to pay.

I couldn't care less if the photo has been doctored, if it keeps the weirdos, conspiracy theorists and nasty nosy gossips at bay. I hope the palace simply doesn't respond. No one should have to put up with this level of intrusion.

Janiie · 11/03/2024 08:33

It's almost funny. We see so many folk go on and on about how some poor exiled members of the rf get all this unfair nastiness when W&K don't and here we have proof that W&K do! it is the global media who are the actual problem and the rf plus ex members all suffer equally from bizarre comments.

A cuff Grin

EasternEcho · 11/03/2024 08:34

@Janiie That's rather disengenuous. They are not just some family. They released this "official" photo to be dessiminated to the public. The public which is rather essential to the existence of the royal family. The press does not and should not be required to make a call on which photos are ok to be fake and which are not.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 11/03/2024 08:35

At this point if I were the royal family, I'd be feeing out all sorts of shite for personal entertainment purposes.

People are batshit

It is a relaxed fanily photo. Perspective is needed. If Kate's right hand is a bit more blurry so what!

Killed the photo. Madness.

WhatHoJeeves · 11/03/2024 08:38

What a horrible world we live in, full of nosy, selfish, cruel people.

This whole affair has made me feel really sad and despairing at the state of the world. A young woman who has been extremely dutiful, carrying out her job diligently in the full public gaze, needs some private time with her family to recover from a serious health matter.

And the world thinks it has a right to hound her, make up ever more crazy stories, snatch a photo of her in a car and criticise every aspect of her face. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Exactly. If they've photoshopped out the odd wonky tooth /wisp or hair that's one thing, but I doubt any news agency would pull a picture for that reason.

If the picture editing amounts to a fundamental lie then that's something quite different.

And I'm not particularly interested in the royals one way or another but it's right that the press have rules around the use of Photoshop to be completely misleading

Same. I bet they're all pissing themselves laughing at the utter hysteria of the 'news agencies'.

The RF chose to release the manipulated photo.

I don't remember anyone on here (or anywhere) demanding a photo should be released.

Exactly. Oh but it's only poor Harry that gets negative press comments apparently,

Are these news agencies who have 'killed' it global companies or based in the US?

Patrickiscrazy · 11/03/2024 08:42

Well, obviously.
But then I'm not one to care about this lot.
Live and let live.

Westfacing · 11/03/2024 08:43

They/the palace/PR whoever should not have released any photo, manipulated or not. They should have ignored all the conspiracies and speculation until Kate was fit and healthy enough to make a public appearance. Now they've made matters worse!

IMO Kate looks very hale and hearty in that photo, too much so for it to have been taken last week.
