Last non-essential you bought

I imagine the boards will be quiet for most of today but I need a distraction and chatter.

So what was the last non-essential thing you bought?

For me it was the 2023 Barbie film on dvd

An Anbernic RG Nano.

(Though technically, I've bought a birthday present for my mum since then. But IMO there's nothing non-essential about that — I'd be in the doghouse otherwise. And socks are essential, right? I know, I know… but she likes new socks and there's LITERALLY nothing else I can get her, even after spending hours a day for several days trying to find something.)

On Friday I bought myself 2 new pairs of black "work trousers" from Next.

My current favourite pair, which are god-knows how old, are getting very thin and have that shiny look that old clothes get. The seams around the bum were getting a bit obvious as well, and I was concerned they were going to give up at any time.
Anyway, went to Next for a replacement. Couldn't chose between two styles. One slightly more casual and "lightweight", the other a heavier fabric and more formal... So got them both! £54.

@zingally

see, I would class those as essential.

A book and a wetsuit arriving tomorrow can't wait

claracluck1978 · 10/03/2024 17:27

We've had a rubbish start to the year but due to that have unexpectedly come in to a not-insignificant amount of £; so DP and I went out this weekend to treat ourselves. All non essentials.

For me: Mulberry bag, Seasalt tunic and new hair diffuser
For him: Dr Martens, Chanel shower gel and three vintage records
For the family: Eurostar tickets to Paris for half term

I'm now not spending on anything but essentials for the rest of the month!

600g of yarn which has a wool content of 55%. Currently sitting under a half-finished jumper and I regret nothing. Can't wait to wear it when it's done!

E@UnravellingTheWorld
that's a lovely jumper!!

Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods perfume (my favourite) and milk chocolate covered raspberries (another favourite) both from Harrods online. Because why the hell not?!😛

😱 Mrs Moneybags 😁

I didn't know you can shop online with Harrods and those choccy raspberries look delicious. As for the perfume I haven't heard of it. Hope you enjoyed your indulgences !

As for me it was yet more candles and a box of Cadbury cream eggs.

Must only eat one per day 😎

@PickAChew your post discussing your dislike of "wadding" and "moist" being sandwiched between @FawnFrenchieMum 's duplicate posts about lube is making me laugh

Hahaha oops! Was on the train and lost connection!

Lovetok · 10/03/2024 17:00

A snowboard! My old one was on its way out and was bought second hand many years ago, so it was time for a new one! It has made me ridiculously happy 😊

@Lovetok

oooh FAB, do you live somewhere you can get to snow easily or will you just have to be forced to find a resort with some snow & go away?

SpringSprungALeak · 10/03/2024 17:41

@obsessedwithfreshbread

oooh very cute!!!

Oh my, how exciting. Do you drive already or is this a new thing?

I drive already.

isthismylifenow · 10/03/2024 18:26

A giraffe soft toy for my Labrador.

He is pining as we lost his sister ddog unexpectedly last week.

So I think it was quite essential really. And he does seem to love Giraffe a whole lot.

Sgtmajormummy · 10/03/2024 18:33

@HappierTimesAhead
I’m certainly not an Insta-fan but I meant colourway as colour combination.
So two different tops in the same combination of grey/white/lemon cool tones.
I’ve been stuck on navy blue far too long!

Allwelcone · 10/03/2024 18:33

JaffaCake70 · 10/03/2024 18:36

A few candles in white company yesterday.

usernamealreadytaken · 10/03/2024 18:38

Went to the garden centre today and bought a pack of star shaped icing cutters, just in case I ever want to cut icing stars. Might be useful around Christmas (I already have snowflake cutters).

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/03/2024 18:40

A crochet shopping bag

Fannyfiggs · 10/03/2024 18:57

istolethetalisker · 10/03/2024 17:20

You can definitely do it!
Additionally have you ever heard of https://codefirstgirls.com/? Despite the girlboss-y name they're very friendly and they do free online classes specifically aimed at women

That's great info, thanks. When you Google coding there's so much information which can be overwhelming so it's good to be pointed in the right direction. Thank you so much ❤️
