The best bet the Tories had was to hold the GE on the same day as the local elections. Use that support and hard work to the benefit of parliamentary party as well as local.

Tory councillors will be trounced in the forthcoming elections because of parliamentary party decisions. They're not likely to do the donkey work for Sunak after that. Especially when they know he's gone the day after the election.

tobee · 17/03/2024 23:49

Yes I've been wondering for a while who an earth will be going round many of these constituencies for the GE from the Tories. The locals will be tricky. Obviously different councils have different profiles to the national party but nonetheless....

L1ttledrummergirl · 17/03/2024 21:39

Braverman is set to lose her seat then!

It's very close - but yes - my Tory stronghold area that's been Tory for decades is set to become Labour!

Says a lot about why she's been voted in numerous times though when you also look at the predicted increase in reform votes 🙄

itsgettingweird · 18/03/2024 04:21

So sadly she may not win if people vote tactically and vote Tory instead of reform to prevent a Labour win.

Kemi's got the shit bucket to carry today she's on tv defending the chap who hates all black women and wants to shoot Diane Abbot. Imagine living in a mind like that.

Badenoch is a lot more explicable when you consider she is a protégée of Michael Gove and not some radical right wing gun slinger

newnamethanks · 18/03/2024 08:07

She's still a black woman defending the indefensible although that's quite a Gove thing to do. Reminds me of the time when he was asked by an incredulous interviewer if he had ever put his wife and child in a car and taken them for a drive to test his possibly failing eyesight. You could hear the silent mental struggle - long pause - as his every instinct was to say Yes, I've done that, just like Mr Cumings, although even he realised that he'd be laughed out of the room if he did. He stuttered No. Take note Ms Badenoch.

Notonthestairs · 18/03/2024 08:10

Kemi Badenoch, the first govt minister to say Frank Hester's comments about Diane Abbott were "racist", seems to have changed her tune.

She tells LBC: "This was something that happened 5 years ago - he wasn't talking to Diane Abbott, it wasn't even really about Diane Abbott."

Here with video . Notice her blinking, and her saying she hasn't read the news lately

Jon Kay: How did it make you feel when you read Frank Hester's comments for the 1st time?

Kemi Badenoch: It didn't make me feel anything in particular

JK: You said these comments were racist

KB: That was a week ago... he's apologised... move on

Well there we are. Proof that Kemi Badenoch has feet of clay like the rest of us.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 18/03/2024 08:30

@Blossomtoes thanks for the updated map. Still hoping for at least 3 of the seats around me to change colour.... Sadly I live in the county of blue although there is a big yellow vote in some parts.

DuncinToffee · 18/03/2024 08:33

Apparently Sunak is giving a speech today.

https://x.com/SamCoatesSky/status/1769634972711731464?s=20

The Prime Minister’s “speech” this morning is 5 to 10 minutes, we are told

Billed as his “first economic speech since the Spring Budget” “to announce a major reform package” - it might not reach double digit minutes

It literally takes longer to read the two looooong press releases we got in advance of todays event

(Just the second press release alone yesterday was 2,620 words which the average person would read in 8.8 minutes)

Oh god, more back of a fag packet policies.

BIossomtoes · 18/03/2024 08:36

I’m absolutely incredulous. I can’t imagine how betrayed I’d be feeling right now if I was a black woman.

bombastix · 18/03/2024 08:40

@IClaudine - I never doubted it for a second. Her ambition is far greater than any principle she might carry along the way. I think people are hugely gullible about her and would do better to focus on who her mentors are that her PR. And the same cod religious lines as Gove. Doubtless she has been told that no leadership for her as donors don't want to be called racists.

Anyway, made to toe the line like the rest of them which is interesting in of itself.

To be fair I don't think St. Kemi could see much of anything in that interview given the amount of blinking she was doing.

Would have been the logical choice.... Only reason they aren't, must be down to power, they know they will lose, so hold on for as long as possible.

Now, with terrible local results, the heat will really turn up on Sunak, he could be gone by the end of summer, then hold on 'til January, with the new PM blaming the old Govt.

Maybe he thinks Rwanda flights will save the 'party?

That video has made me feel really sorry for her. She looks like she's trying not to cry. I wonder if there's been some kind of Tucker-esque press strategy. "Right, come on, most diverse cabinet in history, no racism, we have to send a black woman with this message - off you go Kemi!" "The man is a racist, I don't want to do it...." "Well you have to, for the good of the party, they won't ask anyway and if they do just say most diverse cabinet, apology, move on...."

This is just making it worse for them really because we are all still talking about it.

newnamethanks · 18/03/2024 08:57

I dont feel remotely sorry for her, just as she apparentky feels no empathy for the thousands of women traduced and insulted by her generous party donor. She's chosen to put ambition and party before principle. Or maybe she has none.

bombastix · 18/03/2024 08:59

Do not feel sorry for her. She has busily dished out condemnation of others and is quite dismissive. Now she's been plated up herself. Perhaps it will be a lesson in some empathy for others.

BIossomtoes · 18/03/2024 09:00

You’re a much nicer person than I am @AdamRyan. I can’t imagine anyone making her do anything she didn’t want to, she’s so aggressive.

Zonder · 18/03/2024 09:04

What time is Sunak's speech? Or did I blink and miss it?

DuncinToffee · 18/03/2024 09:08

You might have had a point if this had been the only interview she had given Adam but she has been calling the racism scandal 'trivia' all over the different channels
