also very sorry reading about posters difficulties with SEN provision & friend of mine currently going through the same with her grandchild she cares for who has significant needs, she is at near breaking point.
agree the sainted Kemi has excellent PR whilst her record is extremely poor.

DuncinToffee · 16/03/2024 11:24

Oh come on you all, Badenoch just signed a MoU with the state of Texas and celebrated it as a succesful brexit trade deal, never mind Canada or India or

Yee ha! 🤠 👢 it will, of course, be Mordaunt, still channelling Boadicea or was that a glimpse of King Arthur himself when doing the sword-wielding?

Notonthestairs · 16/03/2024 11:33

I reckon Schapps thinks he's in with a chance. Amazing really given the man's record. That said I don't think his seat is safe either.

DuncinToffee · 16/03/2024 11:34

Vaughan Gething wins Welsh Labour leadership election. He’s set to become Wales’ First Minister, replacing Mark Drakeford, only the fifth since devolution.

Gething will be the first black man to lead a UK nation.

First black man to lead a European nation, apparently!

This clip of Mordaunt has aged well Grin

Well you certainly can't question her judgement

  • Tax cuts in Sept ahead of Oct / Nov election
  • Early suggestions include a significant reduction in income tax, slashing stamp duty and council tax cuts that could mean those on the lowest income don’t pay

As Sunak faced his worst week in politics his allies expressed fury at those they regard as having eyes on his job, especially Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch — nicknamed “Governoch” by Tories who link her political rise to veteran Cabinet minister Michael Gove

Fury also levelled at House of Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt and Defence Secretary Grant Shapps.

Also tensions among Sunak’s advisers, too. Several talked of a vacuum at the top, the diminishing influence of chief of staff Liam Booth-Smith, and clashes between top aides.

Tory aides who attended a weekly meeting expecting instructions amid this week’s chaos were bewildered to instead be asked if they’d put newly issued portraits of King Charles III up in their government departments.

We just got our council tax bill for next year, a 4.8% rise

Not sure if promises of cuts in September are going to work Confused

"Early suggestions include a significant reduction in income tax, slashing stamp duty and council tax cuts that could mean those on the lowest income don’t pay"

Any mention of what budgets will need to be 'slashed' to compensate for this particular giveaway?

Can they deliver it? I mean you would have to be promising a lot at this stage which is what it sounds like, but really if it was possible, why didn't they do it a few weeks ago at the Budget?

Do they really think we’re daft? That’s as blatant a bribe as you could possibly imagine, based on the erroneous assumption that we really want to see public services completely disappear.

A Truss like budget and leave it to Labour to clear up?

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 16/03/2024 12:14

They couldn't offer it at the recent budget because we were in recession.

But by October public services will be running wonderfully and will actually benefit from having less long term investment.

Combine that with a big medal haul in Paris (one in the eye for the Frenchies), a few football wins (must be some footie over the summer right, just don't let the players or managers speak), a royal baby (if not actual baby at least start some rumours or suggest Harry is coming back to nick the crown or whatever) and Bada Bing!

We will have all forgotten about Austerity, Brexit, social care reform, levelling up, the justice system, the SEND system, our bankrupt councils, the Tory infighting and the racist donors.

BIossomtoes · 16/03/2024 12:14

DuncinToffee · 16/03/2024 12:09

It wouldn’t be difficult if they get a decent majority. They just say “Look, you’ve rejected all those bribes so they’re not happening” and reverse the lot of them. It would be the Treasury I feel sorry for, its officials wouldn’t know if they were coming or going.

pointythings · 16/03/2024 13:13

That kind of tax cutting would see the markets panic in a way that makes their reaction to the Truss/Kwarteng budget look like a mouse-like squeak. The pound will crash, mortgage rates will spike, the UK's rating will dro multiple tiers in one go. They can't do it and they know it - and Labour will actually look good by reversing it immediately.

pointythings · 16/03/2024 13:14

Also thank you for your support on the other thread. I really should stay away from the GC extremists' thread, but as someone who has a child who is trans and disabled, as well as a DD, I have a massive stake in this and the single issue blinkered stupidity of some people just gives me the rage. Yes, I used the S-word. It's what they are.

BIossomtoes · 16/03/2024 13:17

You have huge support @pointythings. You’re not the only one who gets the rage by a long chalk.
