Just report if you are unhappy but it is nice of you to unlurk (if that is a word)

Don't tempt me.
Actually, I put my name into advanced search.

Here's another I think you might appreciate.

Latest general election voting intention opinion polls

Here are the latest general election voting intention figures from each of the polling firms currently running national surveys.

Not perhaps the most grown-up of tweets from Labour but we're all thinking it😆

I don't think we want to think about Gove lurking anywhere. But I'm sure he does the proper amount of research.

Nice to see you on here, clav. It is good to have a wide range of views. I mean that, not being sarcastic.

Rishi has a wide range of views, often on the same subject in the same week.

I do owe @Clavinova an apology - it was the wrong thread, she's on the one about Diane Abbott, not the Sorry for Tories one. So many threads these days, I got them mixed up. And Clav does get about a bit. Forgive me, you're only 90% ubiquitous.

Good on you. I can never find anything with advanced search, I usually have to rely on Google instead to find posts I want.

That's so funny! I literally lolled (lol'ed?).

bombastix · 14/03/2024 23:24

Ouch

Zonder · 15/03/2024 07:21

Can anyone explain to me about the restrictions on GE dates? I've heard people say it could be May 2nd or something date in Oct or Dec or Jan. Is there actually a reason why it couldn't be mid June or July? Other than getting in the way of summer holidays?

countrygirl99 · 15/03/2024 07:34

Better not be mid June. I'll be in Iceland ans won't be able to afford alcohol to celebrate there!

MPs are on holiday in June and July, and with Tory MPs being famously workshy it would be unfair to expect them to campaign during those months.

Notonthestairs · 15/03/2024 07:37

I think May 2nd was only considered as a possibility because of the other elections happening that day - it would save money and mean resources were used efficiently.
I guess if you are sitting on 15 million from a single donor that doesn't matter so much.

Last 10 out of 11 elections were either in Spring or Summer.

But the thinking is Sunak wants 2 years in the job and will want Rwanda flights to have taken off (no matter the cost) hence end of the year.

bombastix · 15/03/2024 07:45

End of year is bad because you don't get the turnout; the on the other hand the polls are so bad for the Conservatives that they might as well cling on and hope something turns up.

Odd to think that there will another conference season before the next election. Apparently the number of Tory staffers trying to find a job right now means it's really being planned as a networking event above any policy

Notonthestairs · 15/03/2024 07:58

Well there are those MPs that have over extended and need a few more months of wages. And we might win big at the Olympics and the Conservatives would benefit from the feelz (apparently).
We really need a font to indicate sarcasm.

Notonthestairs · 15/03/2024 08:01

Have thought of jgw several times this last week. I've missed their levity. If you are still reading I hope everything is ok.

Isn't the new plan to pay asylum seekers £3000 to voluntarily get on a plane to Rwanda?

Would fulfill his "promise" to get people on flights to Rwanda by the spring...

Is that where all the Tory MPs are gong, they are always after a quick buck.

How much is a flight back from Kigali to Heathrow?

Grapesarenottheonlyfruit · 15/03/2024 08:08

Anyone explain why the government is talking about getting rid of NI ? Really struggling to get my head round what would replace it.

RafaistheKingofClay · 15/03/2024 08:08

October is going to mean they have to dissolve parliament almost as soon as they get back from summer break isn’t it?

Cornettoninja · 15/03/2024 08:16

A former minister from the One Nation group of Tory centrist MPs said: “There’s a weakness in Number 10 which is a real concern. There’s a lack of political nous, a certain arrogance. The mood is fatalistic.”

I make that about 34 letters of no confidence in the PM that have gone in now. Too slow to get to the 53 mark… I wonder if Reform could see an opportunity with promising futures to current ministers and get the numbers up to force a vote of no confidence on the current government.

yay, another year of an incompetent government doing fuck all governing. Remember BJ’s summer of photo opportunities before he finally bit the bullet.

Rishi Sunak’s authority ‘seeping away’, say Tory MPs

Unrest grows among many Conservatives as PM struggles to resurrect party’s prospects in an election year

Notonthestairs · 15/03/2024 08:18

Yes if its October they will dissolve Parliament sharpish. So we go months without legislation being debated or passed.
I guess that doesn't seem so different to the last couple of years.

Plenty of brits will be queuing up for those flights the way this is carrying on. Its something to seriously consider taking £3k to start fresh somewhere else
