Songs not heard for years

But still love.

Just watched a programme on BBC2 , sound of Scotland, and just heard Bluebells Young at Heart, the first time I think I've heard it for many years. Firstly, the singer wasn't who I remember so that's was a shock and I suspect I thought it was Dexys Midnight Runners who sung it originally. Such yearning for one song 💔

I suddenly had the urge to listen to Gary Moore's Parisienne Walkways just now. I'm sure this hasn't happened since it was in the charts and I had it listed as one of my personal top ten of the week.

Heard WetWetWet “Sweet Little Mystery” in M&S today.
Marti Pellow has an amazing voice. And their songs were great.

I just googled young at heart to see what year it came out fully expecting it to be 90's but it was released in 1984! No wonder it hasn't popped up on any of my 90s playlists.

I hadn't heard murder on the dance floor for donkeys years until it resurfaced due to Saltburn. Now it's everywhere of course, and I'm bloody loving it!

ProfessorPeppy · 10/03/2024 03:08

@Eminybob Young At Heart was re-released in 1993 because it was used on a Renault advert. Siobhan from Bananarama co-wrote it.

FloofCloud · 10/03/2024 04:34

I heard Steven Tin-Tin Duffy 'Kiss Me' the other day- god it was like walking back in time!!

The song of Birmingham clubs in the 80s, everybody on the floor!

Ah this makes sense.

Speaking of Siobhan from Bananarama I haven't heard any Shakespeares Sister songs for a long long time. I loved them.

Yes to Kiss Me by Stephen Tin Tin Duffy, just sent shivers down my spine reading it. It will be in my head all day!

thesnailandthewhale · 10/03/2024 07:34

I heard Never Never by The Assembly recently - I didn't know the name of it but was a song I loved in my youth, I was immediately transported back to the early 80s :)

Newgolddream70 · 10/03/2024 07:54

Voyage, voyage by Desireless. Had completely forgotten about this until I heard it on the radio a couple of weeks ago.

hauntedvagina · 10/03/2024 08:11

Have a look at the soundtrack for One Day, some real forgotten nuggets on there.

TheTecknician · 10/03/2024 13:39

Billy, Don't Be A Hero by Paper Lace doesn't get much airplay these days, perhaps because of its morbid subject matter. Fine record from fifty years ago!

The Story Of The Blues - Wah
Will You? - Hazel O'Connor

gimmegimmegimmeagin · 10/03/2024 14:04

Now that weve found love by Heavy Deez (I think), I've played it on repeat over and over since hearing it on the radio the other day!

gimmegimmegimmeagin · 10/03/2024 14:06

@hauntedvagina just finished watching One Day. Fab music. Was heaving and sobbing by the end though!

Sgtmajormummy · 10/03/2024 14:21

We were chatting about what the most ridiculous singing style was.
DC1 said Mongolian Throat Singing.
DC2 said Beatbox.
I said yodeling, which sent me down a rabbit hole to “Misty” by Ray Stevens.
I hadn’t heard it for years but knew every word.
Much prefer the Ella Fitzgerald version, though.

One of our neighbours used to love this song and play it on repeat. It makes me think of such lovely times with them and just being young and carefree. Fab song x

How is that 50 years ago?!

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/03/2024 21:41

Story of the Blues is a fantastic song.
Not heard Aztec Camera's Somewhere In My Heart for ages., or Deacon Blue's Dignity.

Go West - We Close Our Eyes. Joyous!
