I’m SO over bras. Is no underwires with big boobs possible?

I’m done with wires. The downstairs of my house is littered with bras I’ve removed from inside my clothes and discarded the moment I’ve got in. I’ve tried some Asda non-wired bras and they’re comfortable but not massively supportive.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I’m 36g/gg.

Thanks @ClutchingOurBananas I'll have a look.

I saw a brand called Mary something or other that looks good and had excellent reviews but again they are the big pants of the bra world.

I'm also finding that the straps in my current wired bras are now causing shoulder dents!

If you decide to try Molke, buy a much bigger size than the size guide says. Otherwise you’ll receive something that might fit a 10 year old starting puberty.

I bought some all cotton underwired ones from M&S and they are comfy as hell. They came as a 3 pack and the cotton is stretchy enough nothing really digs in but solid enough I feel like I’ve got hands holding them up

im a 40F so mammoth ones and lots of underwires dig in.

I’ve got lots of simple cotton non wired bras from M&S too and they hold me in place but I get the awful mono boob and I hate my boobs touching, sweaty and uncomfortable even using a powder to stop the sweaty feeling. I tend to use them at home where I can get in there with a flannel if it’s hot.

I could never find a wired bra that actually fitted until I went to a posh lingerie shop (now departed, alas) & spent nearly £100 on one bra. My goodness, what a difference! It felt right as soon as I put it on, & I can wear it all day without even noticing or thinking about it, because it's so comfortable - more comfortable than my non-wired ones.

The saleswoman told me there's no comparison between high-end bras & high street ones, & I think that's true. I don't understand why, though: surely a designer for the high street could look at what makes these bras so great & just reproduce it in cheaper materials? Instead, cheaper ones always feel like I'm trying to press a bit of misshapen metal against me or wearing ill-fitting armour - so I don't buy them.

It’s not the materials, really, it’s the number of parts, the engineering of the bra that costs money.

how many passes it has to go through a sewing machine and how experienced the machinists have to be to do it right all cost.

most high street bras are relatively simple with lots of simple curves and straight lines so a lower level machinist can knock them out quickly.

look at some high street bra cup shapes. Most have 2 pieces of the same types fabric with a simple curve across the middle to give it shape or have different types with a nylon backing fabric that’s itchy and sweaty .

Higher end bras could have 3 or more pieces just for the cup with different fabric types. The fabric will be cut in a specific orientation on the fabric too. Cheap bras will be cut sometimes left to right, sometimes across the bias which is why one cup can look great and the other not fit well or the exact same bra design and size can have different fits.

this is why they cost so much. The hardwear on bras too are better quality in high end bras too.

I’m 34H/36G. The solution is proper fitting and the really expensive bras. It’s life changing. I now only wear Prima Donna Deauville- they’re £100 but you can often get deals. Super supportive and very comfortable. Sadly for big boobs cheap bras just don’t work. I just buy one new one per year.

Icedoatlattelove · 08/03/2024 07:58

I'm a 36 f (I think) I wear these exclusively. I've tried others which look almost identical but these stop the shelf effect!

I buy Rosie M&S non wired. I’m 34E and they are fine. So much more comfortable than wired. Breast clinic recommended them or sports bras.

There is an Instagram account called ‘grassntitties’ that has excellent advice. She is degree qualified and a lingerie designer with a fuller bust. She does excellent videos advising what to look for a review different styles for a fuller bust and gives advice of what to look for!

34E. Everything is "possible", it's up to you.
I'm trying minimisers ATM, but it's honestly a lot of sh*t.
I don't want discomfort at 44.
🙂

SplendidPendips · 08/03/2024 09:50

I absolutely hate wired bras too. I find m&s have a fairly good selection of non-wired. My problem is that I haven't different sized boobs, so need a padded bra to help disgusie it, as well as being non-wired for comfort. I just can't seem to find a full cup bra (no plunging clevage), with padding and no wire that also fits my broad back! Has anyone here found such a thing???

PleaseletitbeSpring · 08/03/2024 10:45

So pleased to have found this thread. I'm currently 36G though depending on weight have been 32F.

I've recently bought Snag bras. I've tried three different sizes and they all have overspill. Don't waste your money. They are really thick and bulky too.

I've also bought Boody. They are comfortable, but if you want an obvious monoboob this is the bra for you!

I'm getting desperate and wasting so much money. I have permanent damage in my boobs from underwire. These bras were from Rigby and Peller, so correct fit.

I'll try the M&S ones. The Molke site has some truly hideous bras and the sizing looks confusing. If I put in 36G will it actually fit or do I need to upsize the cup? I'd buy a plain one. Although I'm involved in running Pride events, I don't want a Pride bra as I don't intend to show my ageing body off to anyone.

Thanks for any sizing advice.

I am 38g and hate wired bras. Fed up with being stabbed in the armpit as they inevitably work their way out.
In my riding days I found sports bras and then always stuck to variations.
Or if you need a lower cut front for a particular outfit I have worn two ordinary non wired bras at once for decent support without a wire.

BarbaraBuncle · 08/03/2024 10:59

The Triumph Doreen non wired bra is the only one I found that fitted well. It's an ugly granny-hammock but it works and it's comfortable.

Came here to suggest this.

Triumph have been doing supportive non-wired bras since bras were first a thing.

A friend of mine was given a Doreen by her elderly Mum. After being initially horrified she wore it one day and was converted. She's since bought several more and tells anyone who will listen how good they are.

You need some structure for support and shape and these bras have it in a way lots don't.

Finding the M&S flexifit delightfully comfy ATM. 36D/34DD

Shapermint (watch the us dollar thing I'd you use credit card) have been a game changer for me. Comfy and well shaped but no wire. Also if you fluctuate in weight they are really adjustable on the back

I have these. Lovely and comfortable. They will give you the sterling price if you look.

ChompingCabbage · 08/03/2024 12:27

I'm a 30F so not as busty as you but I hate underwires too. I got some wireless bras from m&s and I find them pretty comfortable and supportive.

Levriers · 08/03/2024 12:48

Royce Iingerie. No underwires & really comfortable I’m a large size 38G and have been wearing them for years

Totally with you there. I’m a 40F and although I agree with a lot of others, about M&S flexifit offering good comfort and support, it still isn’t quite what I want. Along with having big boobs I also have big nipples and I need some padding to hide these. I currently wear the flexi fit but also have to wear nipple petals/padded inserts to hide the nips. I could cry when I think about the money I have spent trying to find a comfortable, non-wired, supportive, nipple hiding bra.

LastnightIDreamedofManderley · 08/03/2024 13:16

I actually went for a bra fitting this week at a proper boutique where they really know their stuff. For years I’ve just been wearing bralette/sports bra type things with no real support, but I’m fairly small chested so it’s never bothered me.

I did buy an underwired bra the lady recommended, and it does fit me properly, but I’m still really not keen on the underwire. I’ve worn it a few times and even if it is well fitted, I can STILL feel the underwire digging into me when I move in a certain way. I think I’m just going to look online for non underwired, as at least now I know my size!

Gettingbysomehow · 08/03/2024 13:22

You're not going to find anything at Asda that's for sure. You need a much more upmarket bra to find something that really fits and supports well. You need to spend around £40 minimum. Try brastop or bravissimo.

LittleGlowingOblong · 08/03/2024 13:24

I just love the Triumph Doreen bras and have done for the past 20 years! Proper wire-free scaffolding.

Edit: now reading up the thread and seeing how much other people like Doreen too! It actually gives you quite a nice silhouette, if a bit 1950s.

Scully01 · 08/03/2024 13:42

Molke is the only non wired bra I've found that gives proper lift and support, I'm a 32hh. They're a nightmare to get on when you're just out the shower and don't work with thin straps or certain lower necklines though.

ClutchingOurBananas · 08/03/2024 13:53

@PleaseletitbeSpring i upsized both band and cup relative to the ridiculous chart Molke provide.

The XS cosmic I initially ordered based on my (then - I’ve put on weight since then) 28G size would have fit a 5 year old. My actual breast mass would have needed to be on my collarbones for that to fit.

I’m a 30G now and I bought a medium stellar. It fits and gives good lift.

I do agree that some of their designs are just horrendous. Even the basic black is really like resigning yourself to granny pants. But some of the patterns are quirkier than I’d be willing to wear (and I have a pretty high tolerance for quirky!)

I find that having a 30 band but a large cup size is really difficult - worse at 28 and I dread to think how bad it is at 26. So many non-wired alternatives just size the band up with the cup. And the assumption in so many shops seems to be that you couldn’t possibly have boobs if you’ve got a back size under 32.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 08/03/2024 13:54

I'm the same. As a 36 F-G cup it's hard to find soft, supportive bras that don't make me look like I have the boobs of an 84 year old. Most non-wired bras are just awful, awful, awful. They make me look such a strange, old fashioned shape. But the underwires are starting to cut into me and rub me raw.

I see some nice looking ones pop up on my FB feed from companies like Miss Mary of Sweden etc, but they are expensive and I think you have to pay for returns, which is such a faff. I usually need to try on at least 6-8 different bras (all of the same size) to find one that looks nice and actually fits properly.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 08/03/2024 13:58

I recently tried a sort of stretchy but supportive bralette type thing from M&S. All soft, no wires, seams or hooks. I was sort of like Spanx for boobs. It was the right size for me in theory but it was SOOOO tight that once on, I could not have removed it myself without dislocating my shoulders. I had to call my DH to physically rip it off me and even with his help it wasn't easy.
