How do I tell my neighbour I can hear her?

BoomBoomBoomLemmeHearYouSayWayOh · 07/03/2024 18:17

We moved in semi-recently and I can hear my neighbour having sex.

First time I thought it was a one off (maybe his birthday, 😂) as I didn't hear anything the first few months.

But now 2 or 3 times a week I can hear her (only her not him) as if she's in my hallway!
It's not a creaky bed or anything that can't be helped, it's loud, dramatic moans and 'yes, yes' type stuff

I have preteen/young teen kids who can clearly hear her too and it's really starting to piss me off when she starts.

DH and I manage to have sex without the whole house knowing. Never mind the neighbours.

I don't know her that well so I don't know whether to

A) bang on the wall (which I did last time but it was only my fist and I don't think she could hear it over her own squeals, so next time I'll use a shoe)

B) Wait till I see her and say something, which I have planned to do but just not seen her and I feel knocking on her door is way too intrusive. And WTF would I say.

C) put a note through the door. But again WTF do I write?

I feel almost rude asking her to keep it down in her own home but it's embarrassing sat in bed reading, listening to her howling.

A few nights ago DS was sat in bed with me and she started and he was so embarrassed.

Anyone else feel this thread says more about British sexual repression than neighbourly relations? In Scandinavia they would not bat an eyelid. I have to listen to my neighbour pounding their peloton bike, she makes very similar noises to those the OP outlines, and holds these 'sessions' with her balcony doors open. Should I complain? Nah, that would be fucking ridiculous.

Yes, exactly that.
It's also all a bit, would somebody think of the children?
I honestly feel sorry for the neighbour, I wouldn't want to live next to the OP.

Asking for a friend here: how did you make your children?

I'm not the only one who thinks PP's neighbour is over the top. Dont give me the how were your children made question? (that's not clever). I said I'm no prude but nobody needs to make those noises.

Oh come the fuck on, there’s a difference between listening to someone exercise and having to listen to them having sex. You don’t have to be a prude to not want you or your kids involved in someone’s exhibitionism kink against your will.

4610J · 08/03/2024 15:59

I'd just turn the radio up really loud like Pam did when Gavin & Stacey were at it.

4610J · 08/03/2024 16:04

My Cousin actually got told off because her neighbour heard her and her boyfriend having sex. She was mortified but we did have a good laugh about it.

No need to be a Sweary Mary now! I've no idea if OP's walls are paper thin new build jobbies? If they are - it's time to insulate - not hate on the neighbours.

I'd go for the note through the door. "Dear X, there's on easy way to cover this but my family can hear you through the walls enjoying yourselves. My preteens don't need to hear such things so please could you consider keeping it down in the moment. Thanks. P.s enjoy yourselves!"

I like this one.

I feel your pain. As a live in Assistant House Mistress at a (very) minor boarding school, it was brought to my attention that girls in certain rooms could hear the House Mistress and her husband having sex. I had to tell her…

I'm wondering if we work in the same school.....Confused

dick27 · 08/03/2024 16:21

I haven't RTFT but they absolutely know they are being loud

Kd96 · 08/03/2024 16:26

Can we stop signing the ends of these letters with BoomBoom please, I can't unhear Basil bloody Brush 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah this is the issue, I struggle to believe that she doesn't know how loud she's being, and she most likely already knows the neighbours can hear and either doesn't care or enjoys that.

dick27 · 08/03/2024 16:39

I had a neighbour on a very quiet, small street who was ridiculous - windows open in summer oohing and aahing. Everyone talked about her, but no one to her.

Helfs · 07/03/2024 18:33

I’d just stick to saying you can hear them having sex.

Id leave out the bits about having pre teens and them not needing to hear it, because tbh it doesn’t really matter. If they want to have loud sex they can 🤷‍♀️ your kids don’t really make much of a difference in the equation.

I completely disagree of course kids hearing it, matters

LadyMuckonpancakes · 08/03/2024 16:45

I find it quite disturbing that anyone should think it’s fine for kids to hear loud performative sex.

The OP has not reported on her wall type, so you will have to pardon me for waiting for the facts. Assuming you don't live next door, you know nothing more than I do. I can tell you what definitely isn't clever - your grammar. Brackets aren't used like that, dear.

Jumpingoffthefence · 08/03/2024 16:50

After moving into my current rented house I found out the previous tenant was evicted for having loud sex!

Neighbours must be relieved me and my barren vag are here now!

Dear Neighbour,

I've been enjoying the front-row seat to your nightly performances – quite the show! However, my preteen/young teen kids are getting a little too entertained. Any chance we could adjust the volume for a more family-friendly experience?

Cheers,
BoomBoom

A little too entertained, CHILDREN?????? What

'Would somebody think of the children' bah ha ha ha. Exactly. There are some salient facts missing from this thread. If cavity walls are involved, sound radiates through these like a howling banshee (amplifying noise).

It does but the kids hearing are not the neighbours kids.
So to the neighbours having loud sex it makes little difference.
I believe that is what the PP was referring to.

Spring5 · 08/03/2024 17:00

I have this with my neighbour. When i moved in he was single, recently got a new girlfriend 6 months ago. Ive resorted to banging on the wall and shouting oh not again! Right up to the wall. It gets you so angry. So embarrassing with kids who are asking- whats that noise mum. Never hear him just her. DH was discussing it with the villagers in the shop across the road the other day, which was amusing.

i never really see them in person where im not rushing. I just dont know how to broach the subject.

i was talking to friends about it and its like shes performing maybe trying to get him to hurry up with all her pornhub moans, no woman ever makes these noises i swear.

all i can think is, she must be sore as fuck with all the shagging they've been doing! How long does the honeymoon period last 🙉

Dear Banging Brenda

I was wondering if you would share some tips. You sound like you are having so much fun on such a regular basis, and I wondered if you would share some of your tips with all the neighbours so we can all up our game.

Yours

Embarrassed Edna.

Banging Brenda sent me off on a giggling fit! Bloody hell

StarlightLady · 08/03/2024 17:16

This thread reminds me of when l was camping years ago; I’m more of a hotel girl these days!

There was a German couple on the site with a tandem bike and all the fancy gear. They used to go to bed about 11:00 each night when the performance was about to begin. Upon, what appeared to be, her completion of her extra cycling activity, every one in surrounding tents used to cheer and clap!

Pretty sure you're not allowed to go down in a court room. 😁
