Where is your most memorable place specifically for nice views and/or architecture?

Looking for somewhere special for either a few days or a week in June or July?

Has anywhere ever blown you away?

Has anyone mentioned Cuenca in Spain? UNESCO World Heritage site.

That was such an unexpected delight. Stunning.

Sarlat/SW Dordogne

Magical. The whole area is. Did you visit the gardens quite nearby, the Jardins Marqueyssac?

Bosnia, unspoilt mountain wildernesses and amazing blue rivers.

Slovenia was the most beautiful place I’d visited . But the Slovenians all said, ‘when we want to go somewhere beautiful, we head to Bosnia.’

So we did too, and oh my gosh. It’s amazing.

Kotor in Montenegro. Beautiful old walled city. Gorgeous bay.

Nicelynicelyjohnson · 07/03/2024 18:01

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the cutest town.

Venice is the best city.

Annecy or somewhere else in the French alps for the views.

@qotsa At Innsbruck, the very historic Goldener Adler (Golden Eagle) is famous. I've only stayed there in winter - and last trip almost 10 years ago - but it was then very good. Right in the historic town centre (if you go, do visit the museums of costume and folk life there). A great many past famous culture heroes/heroines- eg Goethe - seem to have stayed there.

Hotel Goldener Adler in Innsbruck

Stay in a central location in the heart of the old town of Innsbruck. Family-run first-class hotel with charm and comfort.

Venice it’s just magical there is no where like it

I have been in May and July, May was a much better time to go

CringeQueen · 07/03/2024 20:25

Agree with a lot of these, and adding Provence.

kerstina · 07/03/2024 20:29

I am not very well travelled but I would choose Poschiavo in Switzerland. Any of the lakes in Italy . Menai bridge in Anglesey .St Ives or Port Issac in Cornwall. Loved the island of Corfu.

TigerOnTour · 07/03/2024 21:05

The Swiss alps in the summer.

Colmar is such a pretty place.

Userxyd · 07/03/2024 23:43

We got the ferry from St Malo this summer and next door is a town called Dinard- I was blown away by how beautiful it is there. Loads of great restaurants and incredible views across the estuary

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 08/03/2024 00:02

County Kerry, Ireland. Absolutely stunning.

An off the beaten path tip is Merano in South Tyrol, a combination of Italian and Austrian culture with alpine scenery but mediterranean vibes with palm trees etc. Very unique.

I adored Merano, one of my favourite holidays.

Sicily had some amazing sights.

Lake Bled is beautiful too.

We went here on honeymoon, after a few days in Venice, and we are going again after 33 years this summer. I still remember being told off by a woman in the town on Sunday morning for wearing a skirt that was deemed too short. That won't be an issue this time!

TakeOnFlea · 08/03/2024 18:53

For anyone visiting Innsbruck, get the Innsbruck pass. Such amazing value. You can use it on each of the gondolas, to enter so many museums and for the bergiesel ski slope. We watched Olympians practising there. Brilliant.

We stayed in some apartments downtown close to the restaurants and older town

rubyslipperss · 08/03/2024 21:03

Southern Spain around the Sierra de las Nieves - stunning

Stompythedinosaur · 08/03/2024 21:04

North Finland around Inari - just breathtakingly beautiful.

@MadKittenWoman
Snap! I choose exactly the same places.
Would add the Islands of Stockholm.

Eibsee in south Germany. Absolutely stunning. I wouldn't recommend it during school holidays though! I went there twice, once the last day of the school summer holidays, and again the next day when the kids were back to the grindstone. The second day was a whole different experience. So much calmer and pleasanter just for the lack of crowds. Here are some pics:

Rome without a doubt! Although it will be extremely hot in July! When we went then it was practically 40 degrees!

The most stunning place, it captured my heart! 😍🇮🇹

Greentomatoes21 · 08/03/2024 21:39

In the mountains by lake annecy in summer

Tarquina · 08/03/2024 22:50

Cracow.

artant · 08/03/2024 23:29

I love Venice. My trips there are almost always to visit the art biennale but I was surprised how much I love it as a city. It’s pretty easy to avoid the worst excesses of tourism and get lost in quiet places.

I’ve been at the height of summer a few times and been lucky with the weather but some summers it can be intolerably hot.

artant · 08/03/2024 23:36

As a city to visit, I really liked Helsinki.

High in my list of places I’d like to visit are Norway and Iceland.
