Where is your most memorable place specifically for nice views and/or architecture?

Looking for somewhere special for either a few days or a week in June or July?

Has anywhere ever blown you away?

The Greek island SImi. We sat at a harbour side restaurant for a meal and the views were simply stunning.

Finland. Couple of days in Helsinki and then head up to a lake house where there is nothing but swimming in lakes, woodland, sauna and the coolest daytime/nighttime you will ever see. And SO many blueberries.

Amalfi coast.
Capri. Went up on the chair lift in Anacapri to the top, walked for 5 or 10 mins to get away from other people, sat down on a log and looked out over Ischia and the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius in the background and thought to myself that I'd never seen any view more perfect in my life and I was 50 at the time.
Loire valley.
So many villages in Normandy.

Iceland is amazing.

The Dolomites and surrounding areas are fantastic.

I was surprised how fab some of the views were in Montenegro.

I was just about to say Montenegro.
Very mountainous and absolutely stunning views

Scotland for views and outdoors. Unbeatable IMO, I couldn't say where specifically in Scotland as every place I've been has been breathtaking. Architecture... not so much.

Lake Bled

For views the Highlands of Scotland, although I also rate Montenegro highly.

For architecture another vote for Grenada although I also really rate Istanbul.

Agree with all these.

To combine architecture and views? Istanbul. Meeting of Bosporous is a fantastic view.

Lake Eibsee and Zugspitze in Germany, absolutely stunning!

Kalettesarethebest · 07/03/2024 05:07

Also Hallstatt in Austria, sailing over on the boat was amazing.

Sunflowergirl1 · 07/03/2024 05:41

Chania Crete.

Check out the Instagram account incredible_europe for inspiration - beautiful photos!

Haarlem in the Netherlands is beautiful- lovely old streets, hofjes (semi-private courtyard gardens) and canals. Get a tour in English if you can. Lovely bars/cafes alongside the church in the square with twinkly lights. Not overrun with tourists.

underthebun · 07/03/2024 05:52

Been to most of the ones mentioned & would say Istanbul. the food is amazing too.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 07/03/2024 06:18

Montenegro/Croatia/Dalmatian Coast
Iceland
Austria (Salzburg, Innsbruck, Hallstratt)

I think Cinque Terre and Venice are both overrated.

MCOut · 07/03/2024 06:25

Seville is just gorgeous

WutheringCripes · 07/03/2024 06:43

Dubrovnik
Switzerland - almost anywhere, but I like Neuchatel. The train from Geneva is simply breathtaking.

Penguinsa · 07/03/2024 06:44

Would agree with Venice.

Norwegian fjords are spectacular.

Azores was very beautiful especially the flowers like a giant botanical garden - would love to visit Flores.

Lisbeth50 · 07/03/2024 06:46

Switzerland - the entire country!

grannycake · 07/03/2024 06:48

Lake Annecy is my happy place

Sgtmajormummy · 07/03/2024 06:49

Cesky Krumlov in the snow.
But you’re looking for June, sorry!

TerfTalking · 07/03/2024 06:51

Tuscany

the rolling hills and vineyards with those tall thin trees, the medieval towns on the hilltops like San Gimignano, Florence - just beautiful.

Also the Yorkshire Dales make me cry every time I’m there, but I am Yorkshire so it’s a special place.

LaChienneDesFromages · 07/03/2024 06:52

On the best, clear day in the summer after a couple of glasses of wine, FIL’s balcony, in the Alps, overlooking Lake Geneva.

Less specifically, pretty much all of Slovenia. It is absolutely spectacular and the Slovenians are rightly very proud of their natural beauty.

sleekcat · 07/03/2024 06:53

Amalfi Coast for me.
