Mosaic Portrait - Experian Consumer Information Portal (experianmarketingservices.digital)

Over 150 different segments. Apparently I live in a budget generation area.
So many to choose from.
They then sell this data to marketing companies to do what they want with it.

Mid-career Convention - Professional families with children in traditional mid-range suburbs where neighbours are often older.

"Alpha Families" - relatively accurate.

outdooryone · 07/03/2024 13:31

What a bizarre and judgemental site that is.

tinytemper66 · 07/03/2024 13:36

My house is accurate but not the qualifications. 🙈

Outlying Seniors apparently!

There are 18 properties which share our postcode, and four of these properties are inhabited by retired people! The rest are a mix of couples and families!

BlowDryRat · 07/03/2024 14:07

We're "community elders" apparently. It pretty much fits the area, although our household is a bit of a sore thumb in comparison to the description. We do shop at Sainsbury's though!

RhubarbGingerJam · 07/03/2024 14:16

Affordable Fringe. Settled families with children, owning modest 3-bed semis in areas where there's more house for less money.

Which is true - though we have rare 4 bed as house is extended.

What a bizarre and judgemental site that is.

It's not judgemental, it's descriptive, and deliberately generalised. Demographic information like this is valuable to companies who want to target their advertising. There's no commercial value in judging the communities they are describing.

I think you missed the point, it is classification of postcode demographics as used by Experian and for credit checks.

Lampslights · 07/03/2024 16:51

Love how the couple change for each classification., their hair and outfits.

ours as said is an accurate description of the postcode, there is 14 houses and 35 people.

Penthouse chic: City professionals renting premium-priced flats in prestige central locations.

I'd say that applies to some of the properties here, but there are some terraced houses owned as houses (rather than split into flats) and lived in by families. There is a big block of flats across the road though so more flats than houses. It doesn't describe us as a family, I'm a sahm and DH works in IT, not in the City. And we own our house, which is in London zone 2 so not that central (and quite a gritty draggy, rather than prestige).

@LondonPapa

It was created in 2020 and likely used data up to 2019. I suspect a lot has changed since then, Brexit has gone through properly, COVID etc. Very out of date by now for some areas.

Ah - makes a lot of sense . I would say the two postcodes I put in are around 6-8 years out of date but would have been very accurate at that time .

cakeorwine · 07/03/2024 18:26

Just imagine how Google would categorise people!

It's really not. They sell this data for marketing purposes. There's other layers of data behind this that commercial organisations buy. For instance, it can tell you whether a customer is more likely to buy insurance from Go Compare or Money Supermarket based on this demographic profile. It's got that level of detail behind it. A scary amount of detail 😳

No it's been around for a lot longer than that. Maybe only made publicly available since 2020

Modern Parents. Very accurate for where we live.

How terribly Viz

SaggyCushionCover · 07/03/2024 23:05

Houses on my street are £1.5 million in Yorkshire but it is cafe and catchments not uptown elite (which seems to match the age and income demographic more).

My other home is metro high flyers and it is ex LA housing.

Cheshiresun · 07/03/2024 23:10
