Underwhelming Mumsnetter Recommendations

What things have you bought that've been highly and enthusiastically recommended by MNers and then turned out to be a bit a lot shit?

I have loads 😩Here's just a selection:

  • Heated airier: Giant monstrosity, flimsy as fuck, no different from a radiator.
  • Wool duvet: No warmer than a feather one, flat, looks shit on the bed, feels austere and not very luxurious.
  • Oddballs pants: Really strange gusset that constantly rides up into my fanny causing repeated yeast infections.
  • Loveall fleece leggings: Went bobbly after two wears and one wash, make my legs look fat, warm-ish but nothing to write home about.
  • Estee Laude double wear foundation: Heavy and claggy.
  • Birkenstocks: Made me look like a matronly Danish exchange student en-route to a mountain yoga retreat. Fortunately, I only tried them on and didn't buy them.
  • Fjallraven Kranken backpack: See above, Danish exchange student energy. Again, tried and did not buy.

What are yours?

I also got into Zoflora wipes for a bit until I realised benzalkonium chloride is toxic to cats. Nope!

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Like herbal vaseline.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 05/03/2024 13:09

Yes to 8 hr cream. Totally disgusting smell, overpriced and turns out I'm intolerant of/ mildly allergic to lanolin (discovered after buying lanolips and having a reaction to that too).

I also fell victim to that useless Eufy vac. It couldn't cope with my kitchen table and chairs.

Oh and the Big Hair brush. I like the results but it does break my hair if it use it too often. I also don't like that you have to have it on the hottest setting to also use the rotation. It's just too hot. What do others recommend as an alternative?

That Milkshake leave in conditioner spray. It is absolute crap.

For me It's absolutely fantastic. I use nothing in my hair but this. I suppose it depends on your hair-type. At £13 it's not exactly Bank breaking if someone doesn't feel they like it.

My silicon spoon was not a recommendation from here but if we leave it on the pan edge - then it melts! (no shit sherlock you all cry and fair enough - I just hadnt realised how often I leave my spoons in the pan. We are back to wooden. Sadly the quality of those has declined)

The best wooden spoons that I have ever had are olive wood ones. My originals are still going strong after 20 years and I recently bought a couple of them to send my kid off to university.

Thank you for that recommendation. That looks an interesting shop/store etc. Have you tried their cookery classes? (I did similar a couple of years ago at a cafe in Cambridge and it was great fun, but as expensive!)

M and S canned chicken curry. I wouldn't normally buy tinned meat but had heard a few people raving about it on one thread.

I bought the hot curry and had it in a baked potato and it was vile, completely bland and tasteless and runny.

At least I wasted less than £2!
