An album you loved as a teen that you still love

What album did you love as a teen, that you still love now. I don't really listen to album anymore, just the individual songs I like on Spotify. However one album I will listen to, from start to finish, in the correct order, on a regular basis is Greenday, American Idiot. There isn't one song on there I don't like. I love the flow of the album, and it reminds me of being young.

100% on the American idiot bandwagon. If my kids hear Greenday or any slightly angsty early 2000s pop punk/ punk etc its deep cleaning day and they know to stay out of the way.

also Rage Against the Machine- renegades

and The National - Alligator album

Love Chronicles - Al Stewart
Blue - Joni Mitchell
Songs of….. and Songs from A Room- Leonard Cohen .

Also , a single that I wore out by playing ;
Il est Trop Tard - Georges Moustaki

Oh so many - but I'm someone who just listens to albums.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Architecture and Morality
Tears for Fears - The Hurting
Howard Jones - Human's Lib
Genesis - Genesis (the one with Mama on it)
Peter Gabriel - So

Those are all ones from my teenage years, but I've acquired others since - I discovered Linkin Park and Bring Me The Horizon when I was 50 and have never looked back.

Snackpocket · 01/03/2024 20:32

Dookie - Green Day
Smash - The Offspring

Both already been mentioned but they are genuinely brilliant albums! People have mentioned so many other great albums too ❤️

Negangirlxx · 01/03/2024 20:33

American Idiot by Green Day.

All killer, no filler. Just a bloody brilliant album, that was the constant throughout my teens, and even now in my 30’s. I can listen to it with no skips.

Also, International Superhits by Green Day. Not a bad song on there.

Dymaxion · 01/03/2024 20:46

The Stone Roses.

The hardline according to Terence Trent D'arby.

3 feet high and rising. De La Soul.

The real thing. Faith no more.

Carter USM. all the albums circa 1992 and before. Best gig ever !

Alf. Alison Moyet.

Like a virgin. Madonna.

Let it bee. Voice of the beehive.

Guns and Roses. Appetite for destruction. Played over and over again in the pub we went to during free periods whilst in sixth form.

Obviously not in order !

My tastes reach further back than these albums, but these were the defining ones of my teenage years.

The Unforgettable Fire - U2, it really is fabulous. I listened to it today on Spotify and it was like I was back in my bedroom with my mini hifi system in 1985 again.

Dymaxion · 01/03/2024 20:59

The Clash, London Calling. Never gets old.

Always reminds me of the arguments between two bar staff at the pub I worked at, one loved the Clash, the other The Smiths, London's calling or panic on the streets of London, Cleaning and closing down time was always interesting Grin

MadisonAvenue · 01/03/2024 21:00

The Crossing by Big Country

I've not listened to any albums straight through for years now - I just use Spotify playlists - but this was definitely my favourite as a teen so I've just wacked it on full blast. Still love it! Thanks for the reminder @Daisyhoney

MothralovesGojira · 01/03/2024 21:30

@pointythings
I was a New Romantic as an 80's teen who has discovered a love for Linkin Park, BMTH, Enter Shikari and Skindred in my 50's. I went to my first Download Festival last year and went into the mosh pit on my own to see BMTH - got into two fights and had the time of my life. Not bad for an old, new romantic mid fifties lady recovering from cancer!
I like to point out to my kids that without the new romantic era modern music would sound very different and you can't underestimate the influence of a Duranie.

everythingcrossed · 01/03/2024 21:39

The Stone Roses by the Stone Roses
Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
The Queen is Dead by the Smiths
