Best coffee machine for my bedroom...

GlitteryEars · 29/02/2024 17:18

...I know that, that may be a little odd. But I am not a morning person and I need coffee as soon as possible to start the day.

I'm about to split from husband and he makes me coffee and brings it up to me. So I need a coffee machine in my bedroom then I will have no need for a man anymore!! Haha.

I'm terrible at choosing these things. What will make me a nice coffee quickly in the morning?...with no need for milk in my bedroom.

Thanks

I love this idea and definitely considered it when I had a newborn.

For the milk, but an insulated mug/bottle/flask and then you can have proper milk with whatever coffee you decide on.

I’d go for a kettle and cafetière or a kettle and coffee bags. I think they’re nicer than the pods, cheaper and better for the environment.

EndlesslyDistracted · 29/02/2024 19:08

The Tassimo ones we had came in a pair, coffee pod and milk pod, you had to put them through one after the other IIRC (it was a while ago), but I did find them pretty undrinkable, like those old fashioned vending machines you used to get in workplaces.

BloodandGlitter · 29/02/2024 19:29

I have a dolce gusto in my room and a 5lr water bottle with electric pump to fill it. Grin Also have a few different syrups and teas for the small child. My room is my own space and I have pets and 2 desks set up in it too. Little luxuries that make life so much happier.

SecondUsername4me · 29/02/2024 19:31

Get a mini fridge then you can keep those small champagnes in there too, alongside the milk, for evening drinks.

SorrowsPrayers · 29/02/2024 19:33

I've got a kettle next to my bed. In the morning I just roll over and turn it on. Once boiled I either have camomile tea, or use a coffee bag for a strong black coffee. Works perfectly!

My grandparents used to have a teasmade (sp?) in their bedroom and I thought it was amazing!

Came on this thread to suggest a teasmaid

My grandparents had one and to this day I still think it is actual life goals

CrushingOnRubies · 29/02/2024 19:41

Alternatively The dolce gusto machine cafe latte pods aren't too bad. Remind me of the coffee you have in France

Good deal on Amazon atm

Thanks so much everyone. I definitely don't want a kettle and/or cafetiare...again too much faff and chance of me burning myself. I really am awful without caffeine first thing in the morning.

I think I'm leaning towards a Tassimo for espressos and I'd add coffee mate or a dolce gusto with cafe latte pods as latte's are my fav. I might ask my friends if they have one so I can try the coffee before I buy one. I would be so disappointed if it was the quality of those horrible old vending machines (not the Costa ones)

I mentioned all this to my husband he said there's a coffee machine that you can set on a timer on and then you literally wake up to a coffee!! 😯😯. I told him there's an idea for mother's day!!

Anyone considering a Teasmade, please don't do it! In a fit of nostalgia DH bought one. The clock face illumination was so bright that aeroplanes from the local airport were using it to guide them down the runway. And the noise! By the the time it came to the boil, gurgling and spitting, it then decanted the water at full volume into the teapot. Then, the alarm sounded. There was no need for an alarm I'd been away for hours listening to it come to a boil.
Hideous thing! We gave it away.

FusionChefGeoff · 29/02/2024 20:48

I have a teasmaid!

Unless your bedroom is boiling, a small amount of milk straight out of the fridge is fin in the morning.

I may have stolen a cute little metal churn thing from a restaurant which I use.

SgtJuneAckland · 29/02/2024 20:53

I like nice bean to cup coffee, but have an automatic dolce gusto at work (auto mini one), the coffee is fine, nicer than instant. The flat white and cafe au lait pods are one drink in each pod no separate milk pod so very easy and you get more drinks per box. You can get Starbucks and Costa pods too if you like

goldielockss · 29/02/2024 21:28

We have a filter coffee machine that you can put on a timer and make a jug of coffee for whenever you want (we have it for 6am) and then it keeps it warm for half an hour. It's down in the kitchen at the moment but could be in bedroom easily (with coffee mate if that's what you like). It just uses ground coffee so more environmentally friendly and cheaper than pods to run, and it's good coffee!

I also have a one cup one at work, that I got for about £20 from aldi, doesn't keep it warm but it doesn't take long to make.

DrSpartacular · 29/02/2024 21:28

If you have a decent coffee maker downstairs, can you not just make one how you like it the night before and keep it in a flask overnight? As long as you pre-warm the flask, it'll be hot in the morning!

I dearly wish some manufacturer would bring out a modern one and solve the 'fresh milk needed' problem-I'd snap one up!

Dulce gusto - you can replace your man for about £30.

🤣

Mounttidyflowers · 29/02/2024 21:36

What a fabulous idea OP.

My coffee machine isn’t suitable for upstairs. My husband rarely makes any drink. I have to be on a bed bound endo flare and wait ages.

i might invest in one too. I love this thread. I’d never thought of doing this.

GlitteryEars · 29/02/2024 21:41

@DrSpartacular oh! That could be a game changer! I sleep for 8 hours though...is there really a flask out there that would keep it hot for that long? Would the milk be OK for that long?

It would be worth a test, but a pre-warmed flask filled up and well sealed should manage that easily.

Leafbuds · 29/02/2024 21:47

I wish someone would invent a plug in/battery charged flask that would actively keep milk cold for something like a couple of days. That would be amazing for having upstairs, but also for when you might be away/picnic/hiking/camping. You can get portable espresso makers for such situations, but can't add frothy milk without a way to keep the milk cold. (i know, this isn't quite what you are looking for, but if we're adding to coffee machine wish lists....!).

However - would a mini cosmetics fridge work for keeping the milk cold? It would much nicer having fresh coffee and adding real milk, and wouldn't be too much of a faff.

GlitteryEars · 29/02/2024 21:49

Right I'm trying that tonight!...I've got a couple of flasks knocking about somewhere. I've just got a basic cafetiere in my kitchen which does the job so I'll use that.

My DA has one of those tiny fridges for his room at uni but says he doesn't really use it as it hums too loudly (I think it was rated as being "quiet" on Amazon).
