Would you work if you didn’t need the money?

I know times are crap right now and we all dream about the big lottery win- but in reality would you really give up work if you didn’t need the money?

Factoring in habit, socialising, “it’s what we do!” Would you honestly resign the next day?

Just thinking after a rubbish day- lighthearted ☺️

No. I'd volunteer doing something worthwhile instead. Never thought I'd feel this way but here we are🤷🏻‍♀️

I wouldn't work. I enjoy my work but there's a lot of other things I enjoy more and my time could be better spent. I'd spend more time with family - my kids, my elderly parents - move to a nicer house and get it done up how we want it. And plan lots of nice trips for the weekends and holidays. Once kids and my parents no longer need support, I'd develop my hobbies.

I do it already.

i hate to say it and i dont want to say it but recent events have made me reconsider and if i was taken care of ££ wise, then yes id retire early

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 15/09/2024 18:59

I would definitely continue to work but if money was no object, I would hire an assistant or two to do the things that I can't be arsed to do.

I wouldn’t quit - I’d get bored otherwise! But I’d reduce down to only 2 days of work per week, and fill up the rest of the time with hobbies and socialising.

Edited

Yes that would be me too x

Before kids,I would've hated to not work. But now I've children, I would love to dedicate my days to them. Would return to work once they left home though.

MagneticSquirrel · 15/09/2024 19:27

No way I would work if I didn’t need to! So many other things I could be doing with those 40+hrs a week (once you factor in commuting, extra hours etc etc)

If I won the lottery the only reason I wouldn’t quit and not serve notice is to avoid everyone knowing my business! But I’d be trying to get out asap!

I wish I could quit work!

LoobyDoop2 · 15/09/2024 19:31

I’d still do something, but not my current job. I’d either do something interesting and enjoyable and not worry about the money, or maybe voluntary work, or maybe something of my own. But I think the mental stimulation and social contact you get from working is too important to just do nothing.

Rosecoffeecup · 15/09/2024 20:13

I'd quit my job IMMEDIATELY and do volunteering instead

frenchfancy81 · 16/09/2024 21:59

I don't need to work but I do- am a part-time teacher, two days a week.

AlwaysKindaKnewYoudBeTheDeathOfMe · 16/09/2024 22:01

I'd set up my own business and work more than I do now.
