Remind us again, which party has been in power for the last 14 years Hmm

IClaudine · 29/02/2024 08:40

Something beginning with C, isn't it? 🤔

DuncinToffee · 29/02/2024 08:40

Sunak knows how to pick his 'friends'

it’s fair to say Rishi Sunak has a few unanswered questions over the flights he took last April in a private jet rented by an entrepreneur who is now embroiled in a civil fraud case surrounding his loss-making start-up

One Conservative party official said that, on reflection, Sunak should have “maybe thought twice” before taking to the skies with Tripathi.'

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/02/2024 08:47

Since when was protesting unBritish?

If I was him I’d be focusing on the death threats that are often largely aimed at female MPs.

Cornettoninja · 29/02/2024 08:48

Mob rule happens when there’re ineffective weak leaders in place not representing the unheard and not able to provide them stability.

Thing is, if it takes hold it’s not going to be because of Palestine alone, it’s going to be people dissatisfied with life who have no stake in society taking the opportunity to express that. The Brexit lot goaded them into using their vote as a protest then failed to deliver on anything at all leaving them just as frustrated and powerless as before but worse off by pretty much every practical measure. Heck, I was a remainer and am in my 40’s physically unable to kick off like I used to but even I feel like rioting. The general zeitgeist is of depression and no glimmer of hope. Everything is terrible and our government is inextricably linked with it all.

we need a GE. A new government won’t have a magic wand but they will be able to offer a fresh start, new eyes instead of the tired and drained cabinet we have now. They just can’t be trusted.

I mean, there’s a couple of possibilities there isn’t there? *pencils in next Tuesday for meeting them.

Government by Gaslight. Ffs.

DuncinToffee · 29/02/2024 08:57

It's the 40th anniversary of the Miner's Strike and the lies about Orgreave, maybe Sunak should read up on that,

Quite! Ffs
Several female MPs stood down because of it, they said nothing.

Oh I definitely feel like rioting.

He’s not wrong in that I do feel like one is inevitable it’s just waiting for the right spark. But that’s largely because people are dissatisfied, disenfranchised and the government needs to go. None of those things looks to be in danger of being settled with a cosy chat.

On a slightly different topic, the SNP emergency debate that Hoyle suggested they have and then refused. It was refused on the basis of an announcement that Rishi was going to make on Tuesday. I don’t remember him saying anything.

Suffragettes, chartists, any number of CND or anti war or environmental protests, poll tax riots…

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/02/2024 09:05

I’ll add another vote.

Tentative wave here. Just reading back a little and feels like I've found a group as worried as me. I feel like I'm silently seething on what we are not doing in Gaza and the news that trans crimes are/have been being recorded as women's crimes. I feel as if I am in some kind of dystopian nightmare.

I had to go to A&E here in Sweden yesterday following a fall. I was there 5 hours. Given morphine with minutes of arrival. Had an xray, an MRI, saw the doctor, strapped up by the nurse, and booked in for surgery on Wednesday. Through the pain all I could think was thank god I'm not in the UK. I'd probably still be lying on the pavement waiting for an ambulance.

The health service in Sweden is phenomenal. In 2006 I had a bleed and cramping in early pregnancy. Went to the hospital, The consultant was in surgery, I would have to wait. Within 1 hour I assessed, tested , scanned and reassured all was okay. It cost me £10. The UK will never meet this level of service. In Sweden your I.D is tied to every service so there is continuity throughout everything you do and all services you access. This probably helps to some degree.

Just had a horrible thought....I hope this isn't Sunak ramping up to emergence powers to avoid calling a GE ever. I wouldn't put anything past this lot
