Someone needs to tell Rishi about that North London thing...

He thinks it's a simple Corbyn jibe no doubt.

Reference a 19th century PM as a 'Conservative' Jewish PM is a bit desperate. There was no Labour party then!

AdamRyan · 28/02/2024 14:18

Def quiet today - I made an AIBU thread 45 mins ago - only 2 replies. Fascinating

Number 10 repeatedly refuses to endorse Kemi Badenoch's claim that the former chairman of the Post Office was the subject of an investigation into bullying

Henry Staunton says that the primary subject of the investigation was Nick Read

Asked if Badenoch was correct, PM's official spokesman says: 'I'm not going to get into any further commentary on HR matters'

newnamethanks · 28/02/2024 15:56

Correct, Sunak. Remember what that famous politician had to say about two nations? Well done you and your party for recreating it.

Farage as ‘diversity’ Grin Grin

DeadButDelicious · 28/02/2024 16:32

"In our party, we have a proud tradition of diversity and accepting everyone from every background"

Translation: We'll take anyone if we reckon it will get us some votes.

Especially if they’ll donate loads of money.

They even took that chap from Labour. If that’s not a sign of their diversity I don’t know what is Wink

I just read the Tories Twitter feed. They are spinning it to make out Sunak got one over on Starmer today. I suspect we will see Sunak's lines trotted out on MN shortly.

I hate them so much.

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2024 19:33

Not sure if 'but Corbyn' is the gotcha when it comes to Truss, Starmer actually expelled Corbyn from the Labour Party

Tomorrow is the IWD debate in parliament where once again the heartbreaking task of reading the names of women killed.

Notonthestairs · 28/02/2024 19:53

Hilarious.
Labour announce change to non dom tax rules. Tory supporters on here shout that it won't raise enough money and the Non doms will leave the UK 😱 Blah blah...

"Jeremy Hunt has drawn up emergency Budget plans to scrap or scale back Britain’s “non-dom” tax rules, in the event that he needs to raise billions of pounds to fund mass-market pre-election tax cuts"

IClaudine · 28/02/2024 20:04

Oh, has he stolen Labour's ideas again?

Notonthestairs · 28/02/2024 20:10

Totally fine to do it to fund tax cuts elsewhere (to buy votes)

Not fine to do it to fund public services.

I doubt the proposal will get past Sunak - he won't want to draw any more attention to non doms. But even so it's given me a chuckle.

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2024 20:21

I liked this

Labour source: “We will wait and see whether the chancellor manages to get this past Rishi Sunak given his family finances.”

That’s brilliant. And the whinging about Labour not announcing policies ahead of their manifesto - is it any wonder? They wouldn’t have any left that the Tories hadn’t nicked.

Job posed an interesting conundrum yesterday - Rishi is now stuck between dealing with it as well as Starmar dealt with the antisemitism following Corbyn or dealing with it as badly as Corbyn did with antisemitism. I think these comparisons should be made more.

Oh apparently it's not the same though because antisemitism has an ECHR definition but Islamophobia doesn't

Tories taking the nom dom plan would be politically advantageous, esp if they put in a few technical "loop holes"
Leaves Lab open to the charge of "How would you pay for FSM etc" and having to support any tax cuts this change might be used for.

The problem is people would rather be able to get a GP appoint/ambulance/AE/less pot holes..... than a small tax cut, quickly eaten up by council tax rises & a tax cut that favours the higher earner.

Its all too late for the tories, what matters if peoples lived experiences.

Notonthestairs · 29/02/2024 08:04

Well it will certainly reinforce the argument that Labour shouldn't release any further plans before the election is called.

IClaudine · 29/02/2024 08:35

So. We are now in danger of descending into mob rule.

Hope everyone is safe.🙄
