Ooh. Paddy Power's odds on Monday were 4/1 for a Spring GE (April-June). Today they are 3/1...

(And October-December 2024 1/3. I think they were 1/4 yesterday).

Edited

I can never understand these things. Does that mean they think it's more or less likely that we will have a spring GE?

fabio12 · 05/03/2024 20:20

My CT has gone up by 2.99%.
Servicing the district's debt costs our council 11m every year 😳

@RafaistheKingofClay, @pointythings, yes, you are right. I don't even drink very often so it would totally wipe me out. I'll have to come up with another plan.

Very much looking forward to this thread on the Big Night though 😁

I think even the heaviest drinker would struggle with 323 drinks. Although the Tories may hall you out by losing a few by elections between now and the election.

I’m only laughing because I had the same thought about turning it into a drinking game over the weekend and had to rule out 1 drink per seat pretty quickly.

Slightly more likely. But also slightly more likely we will have an Autumn one, if I have understood correctly.

It means that people are placing bets on both outcomes. I think!

P.S. I am not a betting woman, so may have it wrong!

Random factoid I discovered today after listening to an interview with Andy Street; his partner is Michael Fabricant.

The mind boggles at what a conversation over dinner sounds like.

DuncinToffee · 05/03/2024 20:40

I am a lightweight when it comes to alcohol these days. I can do beer but 1 glass of wine and I am asleep Grin

Call the election! GTTO

I'm still very wary of any early alcohol consumption and champagne celebrations on election night; still traumatised from my dm and df election night party in 1992. Sad

TokyoSushi · 05/03/2024 21:00

"Mr Street describes his relationship with Mr Fabricant as an intense friendship"

I agree, I won't be cracking open anything until a Labour majority is in the bag. Unless JRM loses his seat, in which case anything goes.

DuncinToffee · 05/03/2024 21:08

Guess who paid Donelan's damages...

Guess who paid Donelan's damages...

I was just coming on to ask that. Don't tell me that the taxpayer has had to stump up for her reckless fuck up.

DuncinToffee · 05/03/2024 21:18

Yep, the taxpayer

it seems that taxpayers covered the cost of Michelle Donelan's false accusations. Her department says a "nominal" sum was paid, "subject to all the usual cross-govet processes, & aims to reduce overall costs to the taxpayer that could result from protracted legal action."

A Downing Street source, asked if the PM had confidence in Donelan, said: “Everyone has full confidence in Michelle who is an excellent minister.”

I think we can celebrate when the exit poll comes out at 10pm on GE night?

I remember 10pm on GE night in 1992. We were in the pub. Gutted. Even though the exit poll was fuzzy and not accurate it was clear Labour were not going to win.

Too soon. I’ll be out cold by 2am and miss most of the fun if I start then.

This is pretty extraordinary.

Although I suppose after forking out for Johnson's legal fees nothing is extraordinary.

Taxpayers money is essentially a slush fund for Conservatives to use when they need to cover their arses.

One drink per cabinet minister/previous cabinet minister? Or given the churn, is that still too many?

I wouldn’t wake up from my little nap. Best hang on until at least a few results are in. I’d never forgive myself if I missed Rees Mogg’s result.

Have they passed a law redefining the meaning of excellent?

I made myself nervous watching the old exit polls and reliving how it felt each time!
