In comparison to the rest, she is excellent.

It's a shame the bar for excellence has become so low, that only the slugs can get under it.

LittleBowSheep · 05/03/2024 23:28

Ok, maybe I'll invest in some party poppers instead. Yes, my house would be a complete mess by the morning but my god it will be worth it 🎉🎉 🎉

2p reduction in NI

Jeremy Hunt in pre-election Budget tax giveaway | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

Paid for by reducing budgets for the police, courts and local authorities

Overall departmental spending is currently pencilled in to rise by one percent per year in real terms after 2025, and the Chancellor could reduce this to 0.7 percent.
Unprotected services such as the courts, police and local authorities would be likely to take the brunt of any reduction.

So they do care about justice and crime - despite cutting their budgets.

The Chancellor will lay out the Government's plan to wean the country off its dependence on high migration levels.

How can this be allowed? Governing for the UK??? are they fuck!

They know they won't form the next Govt but instead of ensuring a smooth handover for the benefit of UK Plc, they seek to hamstring the next administration.
Hunt as chair as the Health committee, knows full well the issues in maternity care (he is on record of saying that he messed up on this when health sec) yet will make sure the NHS gets less money... sure knows what a woman is!!!

More interested in making sure Labour have to have either make more cuts to public funding or reverse these tax cuts, either way, Lab get the blame, which the Tory media will have a field day with.......

Its criminal behaviour.

IClaudine · 06/03/2024 07:08

I was listening to LBC the other day, and a caller said exactly the same as you @Alexandra2001 , that Hunt would use his budget to hamstring a Labour administration.

Iain Dale said that was a ridiculous thing to say. No government would be so irresponsible etc. 🙄 It's as though he hasn't noticed what they have been doing the last few years.

Also joyous news that Trump is almost definitely the Republican candidate.🤮

How much more can we take?!

I see Sunak's wheel of policy spins has landed on defund the police and criminal justice system. I guess the evidence of how well that worked when Cameron did the same is not relevant?

Zonder · 06/03/2024 07:40

It's incredible that any country would want Trump once, never mind twice. We all rejoiced when he lost last time - unbearable that he will likely win this time.

Couldn't the democrats find anyone at all who could have stood instead of Biden?

newnamethanks · 06/03/2024 07:45

Trump. Bloody bloody bloody hell. Just terrifying, what on earth are people expecting from him? Nothing good, obviously. It's like Republicans have a collective death wish and they're taking everyone else down with them. Can't even bear to read any more about it.

This is so very true. And it's so damn blatant too. How can this be allowed to happen?

They have absolutely no interest or concern for the country or people. It's all just a game to them.

BIossomtoes · 06/03/2024 09:34

I think its blatancy will make it backfire on them. How much ammunition has Labour got to illustrate how unaffordable tax cuts are and what the effect on public services will be? Shedloads. They need to point that out today and keep hammering it home until the election, along with a pledge to reverse them.

There is so little trust in the government, I am not sure it matters what Labour say or indeed what the government do. Many people will assume the government is just playing silly games, no matter what they announce.

Meanwhile, Marjorie Taylor Greene is keeping US politics classy. A future president?

This is scary stuff

Donelan had ordered her officials to draw up a secret dossier on one of the academic's “militant left” social media posts

The 11-page dossier catalogued three years' of her posts on trans rights, Black Lives Matter & criticisms of No 10

Thread by @poppyeh on Thread Reader App

@poppyeh: Want to know why Michelle Donelan was forced to make an extraordinary apology to two academics earlier today? It's a bizarre tale involving Policy Exchange, a secret government dossier and a libel case paid...…

Oh look another one

https://x.com/miqdaad/status/1765305064883736819?s=20

Baroness Foster falsely accused a Muslim student, Ms Gorgianehon, of antisemitism over an octopus mascot on University Challenge (note: the others weren't accused)

Foster tried to get Gorgianehon expelled from Oxford

She's now been forced to pay significant compensation

Good

countrygirl99 · 06/03/2024 11:24

Maybe I'm being thick but what do octopuses have to do with antisemitism?

Rishi Sunak, "Under Keir Starmer's tenure rape convictions actually dropped"

Keir Starmer, "Well the Prime Minister knows that's going to be fact checked"

(rowdy noise from Conservative MPs)

Keir Starmer, "I really do think that the victims of violence against women and girls deserve better than this nonsense" #PMQs

Notonthestairs · 06/03/2024 12:39

Rehashing stuff Raab said.

They've really run out of ideas.

www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-did-rape-conviction-rates-fall-when-starmer-led-the-cps

Dominic Raab said that the conviction rate for rape and sexual offences fell between 2008 and 2013, when Keir Starmer was director of public prosecutions in England and Wales.
This is consistent with figures from the Ministry of Justice. But separate data from the Crown Prosecution Service shows the opposite trend, with conviction rates rising over Mr Starmer’s tenure.
The mismatch is the result of different measuring techniques in the two organisations.
