My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

Booked the wrong flight dates, on two separate occassions, luckily we realised and EasyJet refund if you cancel within.. I can't remember.. but think it was 2 hours.

Football tickets in Italy ... wrong day...

Got the wrong dates for half term...

12 tickets to take a team on a two hour train journey, bought for the day they were purchased, rather than the day they were needed.. didn't realise until we were on the train.

Checked flight and ferry times for a holiday in Greece... most days the flights were at 15h.. except Tuesday when it leaves at 11h... not enough time to get from the island we were staying on to the island we were flying from.

Similar story with a bus from my village to the train station.. it leaves at 20 passed the hour, except at 13h when it leaves at 8 passed the hour...

I very nearly missed our holiday when my eldest girls were 4. I was skint so we were doing a coach holiday and our bus departed at 02.00Tuesday. I got not sleeping on Tuesday night, rather than Monday night into my head. Realised after midnight when I was lying in bed wondering why I couldn’t settle. Had to abandon the stuff that was still drying and just take what was already in the cases, get the two girls up and dressed and beg a local taxi company to take us to the coach station.

I once turned up to a dentist appointment, an hour later I was still waiting. I was openly annoyed and eventually got seen, only to find out I was a week early and rather than them being late they'd actually shuffled to squeeze me in. I was so embarrassed!

Busybusybusy · 25/02/2024 18:23

I have a friend that turned up for a flight a year early!

Oh I'd be gutted! I've not done it personally but I know friends who have. Was it the Palace Manchester, I was there last night and the 3 people next to me left as soon it started as it was too high for them!

WimbyAce · 25/02/2024 18:24

Surprised that you actually got into the theatre, don't they scan the tickets at the door?

Todaysproblem · 25/02/2024 18:27

We arrived at our (fully booked) Lake Como hotel in August to find out I somehow managed to book a week in October. I could only find a couple of available rooms at different hotels for something like £4,000 per night, so we had to leave… Oh and the stay was to celebrate my husband’s birthday. 😢

Walker1178 · 25/02/2024 18:30

Yep, booked tickets to see Jamie Raven and realised about 3 days too late that we’d missed the show. Like all the other kids in the thread my DS likes to remind me about the time we forgot

PurplePi · 25/02/2024 18:32

I turned up for a job interview at a University only to discover the person I was scheduled to see wasn't around that day. I checked, and, yes, I was a day early. D'oh!

Came back on the right day at the right time, only to be left hanging around in reception for over half an hour as I waited for him to finish interviewing another candidate. When they finished, he seemed surprised to see me in reception. He'd been told my appointment was an hour later than shown on my e-mail. Even when I showed him, he refused to believe it and kept saying that I was wrong. Needless to say, I didn't get that job.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 25/02/2024 18:34

Friend wanted to see a particular cheesy late 90's band a couple of hours drive from us. I am not a keen concert goer but thought it might be fun so gave her cash, she got the tickets (olden days.)

On the day, she forgot her petrol cap key (really olden days) & didn't have enough petrol to get there and back, so there was a complex hand-off where I went and picked it up a spare house key from her mum at lunch, then went to her house to pick up the petrol cap key, then dropped it at her reception, then went back to work.

As I was leaving that night to head to hers and then on to the concert she rang profusely apologising to say she'd just got home and realised that the tickets were for the previous night.

I don’t understand this - Hamilton is on until at least September? Hopefully you can rebook, all is not lost!!! At least you had some nice drinks I guess OP 😆

Presumably she means Manchester where it finished yesterday.

TooMuchPinkyPonkJuice · 25/02/2024 18:42

I used to work for a premier league rugby club as a customer services manager and we would often have people turn up on the wrong day. Usually ST holders. Once had an away fan turn up on the complete wrong week, they'd booked the right tickets just turned up 2 weeks later. No idea how as the date is plastered all over them 🤣

Sounds like a lucky break. I imagine working for a place so unorganised would be a nightmare.

SummerGardener · 25/02/2024 18:45

My favourite one is my mum went to see East 17 in concert and they didn’t sing her favourite songs. Much confusion until we realised she had been to see Heaven 17 instead 😂😂😂

This is brilliant!!

My dentist is now in my phone as Dentist - Do Not Ignore due to so many missed appointments... 🙃

User103 · 25/02/2024 18:45

When going to an apprenticeship interview arranged by the training provider, I went to the wrong employer. Training provider just gave me the employer's name and date/time of interview over the phone. No email confirmation or other details and being a teenager, looking for full-time work for the first time, I didn't think to ask.

It was a large organisation so the initial assumption was that somebody somewhere was interviewing and had forgotten to tell reception so they'd just ring around... Best part of half an hour and many phone calls later, they had to admit that they were pretty sure that I was in the wrong place.

When I went to see Avengers Endgame, a couple with tickets for the previous showing tried to claim our seats as their own. The bloke was not happy and another bloke who'd overheard helpfully said 'with all the adverts, you've barely missed twenty minutes of the film' to him, which did not seem to help.

Oh god how awful for you to discover this. Was that the end of your parents marriage?

Amazingly my parents have just celebrated a major wedding anniversary!

I was a bit dumb to be honest. I could have waited at the only door and made him front it out, I chose to ‘take a walk’, saving every ones embarrassment, giving her the chance to get out.

And I didn't ever ‘tell’. 😳

Went with a my brother to a charity ball in a big hotel and had alot of champagne
After a trip to the loo returned to my table chatted to other guests for ages
Then a bride and groom got up to dance ...oophs wrong function room

useitorlose · 25/02/2024 18:48

Not me, but the headteacher of a school I worked in organised a residential trip for y7 and y8. He did all the admin. Kids turned up at school with their luggage, parents stood around waiting to wave them off, but no sign of the coach. HT rang the centre only to find that he'd got the date wrong and their booking didn't start until the next day! To make matters worse, one student with autism had gone to the centre already and was staying there with his parents so he had the support he needed and I had to ring his mum and say no one else was coming until the following afternoon.

When I was 17 I went to my first premier league football match. Spurs v West Brom. Had only been to London twice before when I was younger.

Got off the tube at Tottenham Court Road... couldn't believe there were so many shops and no football ground. I asked someone in a kiosk where White Hart Lane was and he laughed in my face. Felt like a total knob to be fair! 😂😂😂

I once ordered an uber to get home from the city centre. I'd left my glasses on the side as I'd left home in a rush, so was squinting at all the cars as I waited for my ride.
Finally saw the uber sign and ran up to it and got in with a cheery "Hello!" to the driver.
A second later, a random woman got in next to me. We just stared at each other for a moment before the driver asked which one of us was X. It was not me. I just assumed I was the only one getting an uber. Quickly apologised, got out and saw my uber driver opposite looking at me like a goldfish 😂😂

I’ve always had all three children at different schools so have missed two mufti days.

when DD was tiny, I took (very slowly) DS1 to school with DS2 manically scooting to school for his first ‘inset day’ only to be told that that was teacher training….

CornflakeGirl18 · 25/02/2024 19:07

My DP booked us in to a campsite close to where he used to holiday as a child, he had the whole nostalgic weekend planned out. When we arrived it transpired he'd booked for the company's other site and we had to make a mad dash from one side of Scotland to the other to make use of the booking before they cut off check-ins for the day!

Have turned up to the wrong hotel twice. (same chain had hotels on the same street / next street over)

I've done that with Premier Inn York (York has Premier Inn Blossom Street North and South which are about 2 doors down from each other), tried to check in quite late in the evening after a family party, only to find I should have been in the other one.

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 25/02/2024 19:08

Yep booked a wonderful mini break to Venice to meet with a friend who was going to be there for work, travelling from the other side of the world. Planned, booked our flights and hotels, spent 8 months looking forward to it.

A week before I was due to fly out I got texts from her like “can’t wait to see you soon!” All exciting.

An hour or so later “I’m in our room, it’s lush!“

Id booked for the week AFTER she was there. Fuck me.

In the end I went anyway with a local pal who booked a cheap last minute flight to keep me company. But I really missed going with my dear friend on the trip we’d spent so much time dreaming about!

What a total prune

Chouquettes · 25/02/2024 19:09

Turned up at the airport after over an hours drive traveling alone with young kids and all the stuff you need for them only to be told we were booked on for the next day.
