My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

Not quite the same but I showed up 2 days late for my daughters year R nativity. I ended up blubbing in front of her teacher and I was really looking forward to it.

Dont beat yourself up we all make mistakes, it's a shame I can totally understand your disappointment and upset.

Mummyto2rugrats · 26/02/2024 19:47

Your not alone bought my DH some concert tickets years ago for Christmas around the same month it should have been I thought oh better check date / times and sort a baby sitter only to find we had missed it by a week. So I bought him tickets for Billy Connolly last ever tour as a replacement only to arrive a day late !!!

Suffice it to say I have every ticket eletronic now and save a copy into my calendar with a reminder the week before that was my worse year for messing stuff up

restingbitchface30 · 26/02/2024 19:53

I pretty much did the exact same thing! For Xmas booked by partner tickets to see life of pi at the theatre. I’d convinced myself it was a particular Saturday so did t even check the tickets again. I got an email from the theatre saying thanks for visiting we hope u enjoyed the show. I checked and we had missed it. I thought it was the following Saturday. I was gutted. However in my defence I have young twins and we had a lot of tension between myself and partner around that time!

I flew overseas for my friend's wedding, but got the time wrong and missed the ceremony by a couple of hours 😫

My great aunt & uncle got the date of their overseas flight wrong and arrived at the airport a day late.

A friend got the dates wrong when booking a weekend trip to Amsterdam, so he and his wife arrived and then had to fly back to the UK about 3 hours later

These things happen 😂

Axcis · 26/02/2024 20:42

We would have checked and checked again but my lovely cousins dp gave us norovirus, which distracted us a bit. It was time to fly home and all was going well. Plenty of time for 4pm flight.
Except our flight was at 11am that day.
£700 later we were rebooked and flew home poorer than anticipated.

MrsLighthouse · 26/02/2024 20:53

Spent loads on cinema tickets for several boys only to spot a text an hour before the showing saying they all needed photo ID as the movie was a 15. I hadn’t checked the rating and all the boys were 12/13. No refund , lots of grumpy teenagers and loads more spent on pizzas to placate them 😭

GingersOwner26 · 26/02/2024 21:53

One I saw on Facebook was when someone on my friends list had posted something about "This time on Wednesday, I'll be Mrs X!" Someone then started panicking in the comments because she'd thought that wedding was on the Saturday, had booked accommodation for the weekend. She had to panic book accommodation for midweek.

Mumof3confused · 26/02/2024 22:03

Some of these stories are hilarious! Wrong funeral 🤣

if it’s any consolation Hamilton really wasn’t all that!

JustMeAndTheFish · 26/02/2024 22:38

My best friend lives abroad and normally flies home into Manchester . Last year she came into Newcastle and forgot tell her daughter who drive two hours to pick her up in Manchester.

Sickdissapointed · 26/02/2024 22:40

My friend realised she had misread her flight time and stopped as she was pulling out of her drive to check her tickets. The normally 1 hr journey would need to be completed in 30 mins to stand any chance of getting on the plane. They made it with seconds to spare but returned to 3 speeding tickets.
sweaty shaking and having a huge domestic- not the best way to start the holiday.

Not quite the same but back in the old days DSis booked a last minute holiday for the two of us on Teletext to go to Spain. She made all the arrangements, I just met her at the airport. Watching the flight tracker on the aircraft we were both surprised to be heading over the Atlantic. Turns out Costa Rica is not next to Costa Dorada…

Sorry. I don't believe this for a second. Costa Rica is not a cheap last minute holiday destination and would have been significantly more expensive than a last minute spanish holiday. There is no way someone would confuse the two. Also you need jabs to go to Costa Rica which would have been mentioned on the booking

Cosicosi · 26/02/2024 23:04

Used to work for a Travel company so I'm taking care of all the travel arrangement.

Few years ago, booked our first India trip and on that day I left the office earlier for Heathrow and just before we leave, husband decided to check his visa....guess what? I totally FORGOT the visa!!😩

Lindyloomillion1 · 26/02/2024 23:14

Years ago, I arranged a long trip driving through France to the south with 3 small children, planning to stop at 3 camping sites on the way to break up the journey. High season.
I got the dates wrong and was one day late for each stop. I was mortified but staff really helped me out each time. I felt so stupid!
By the time we were due to return, I was dreading the journey so much I blew my credit card on the car train. It was a huge relief but massively expensive. I was paying off the debt for years.
Good luck with your health and you are not alone in being an idiot!

Many years ago when my first dc was about 4I booked tickets for us all to go to see the pantomime on Christmas Eve. I was really excited to take him (his first one) & my dh had never been either.
The day before I sorted out the tickets ready & realised it had been for the previous night (22nd). I was so disappointed & cross with myself for booking the wrong date & not checking (bought them weeks in advance). We still went after Christmas & son really enjoyed it (had to pay again obviously).

1995, my dad’s funeral.
My son and nephew were 19’ish. Had been away at Uni. came home for the funeral,

In the church , DS asked the exact place of the graveyard.
I said “ Robin Hood “ …….. ( a graveyard in Birmingham )

My son and nephew , decided it must be in Nottingham ( Robin Hood ….. )
They thought my dad must’ve had past association with Nottingham.

They sped up the motorway for 20 miles , amazed the hearse was going so fast that they hadn’t caught it up.
(Remember, no mobiles in general use those days.)

The rest of us were 3 miles down the road at Robin Hood Cemetery in Birmingham.

They finally made the wake 3 hours later. Still laugh about that 25 ish yrs later.

I once went to a Christening. Running late, barrelled into back pew of Church, with my own squalling infant in arms,
H carrying our brightly wrapped gift & tacky floating helium balloon etc.
Cue me spotting the coffin at the front & all the other mourners. We were a week early. At least the balloon had a Cross on it. SO embarrassing.

When I was a kid, my mum and Dad made this fuck up on a GRAND scale, we'd been to see relatives in Wales, and when we got to Holyhead to get on the ferry, they said, no, no, your tickets are for TOMORROW, so we laughed at ourselves and stayed in a b&B. Showed up the next day and they said, oh the clocks went forward, you're too late to get on this ferry, you'll have to try again tomorrow. I think we all felt like we'd been in holyhead for a couple of years by the time we got on the ferry

This one really made me giggle. The b&b owner did well out of you! 😀

I famously turned up for a time management course a day late

You win! 🥇

Ukrainebaby23 · 27/02/2024 06:23

Happens more than ypu think OP reading these posts. Perhaps don't admit so much irl.

Best wishes for your recovery..

We went all the way up to London for a 3 night hotel stay at premier inn (we used to book the same weekend every year) we got there and they couldn’t find our booking….DH booked it that year and had accidentally booked the week before! They were fabulous and customer service very kindly let us have our break

Teentrauma · 27/02/2024 07:08

Girls weekend abroad. Friend assured us she'd checked us in online for the return flight. Got to the airport in plenty of time so went for a leisurely meal before taking a slow walk to the gate. However, it turned out she hadn't checked us in. Check in was closed and although there was still some time to go before the flight and we only had hand luggage, they were having none of it. Managed to book another flight at considerable expense for a couple of hours later but it was going to Gatwick instead of Heathrow so had to pay for a taxi too. An èxpensive mistake!

ChateauMargaux · 27/02/2024 07:22

Travelling from Zebrugge to Hull.. got to the ferry check in only to find I had booked Hull to Zebrugge.

Zatapeg · 27/02/2024 08:54

I have just done this! I waited 6months for a hospital appointment and got the day wrong thinking it was the day after!!! I'm so so gutted! Not sure how long I'll have to wait now!! 😭

15 years old and just started my GCSE exams, I remember thinking I ought to check what date the following week my orthodontist (or it may have been regular dentist) appointment was. Turned out it was in 20 minutes time and I had to run all the way there. Thinking about it now I don’t know how I made it, maybe they were running late enough that I could get away with it. I must have checked it at some point to make sure it didn’t coincide with any of my exams, and then blanked on the day.

I actually got 2 of my GCSE exams mixed up! My teacher was disappointed with my result but I was amazed I'd achieved it in a panic with not enough revision! And I aced the one I over revised for so in my head it balances out.

When we first moved to Sheringham, Norfolk, the in-laws were visiting for the first time. I booked them into a hotel which I thought was just around the corner. It was 16 miles away in Bacton, which they didn't appreciate after already driving for 5 hours to get to us. And FIL couldn't have a drink either because MIL doesn't drive. I wasn't popular.
