My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

I went to the wrong wedding once.
Only noticed when the bride walked down the aisle

😲 That's amazing!

I know someone who turned up at Heathrow instead of Gatwick for their flight.

I had arranged with a friend that we would go to our teacher training college and get our degree results together at 9am on release day. It was 1988 so the days when all cohort names and degree grades were typed on the same piece of paper and pinned to a board. You could see your grade and everyone else's too. Even those who had failed . I was very nervous. As we approached there were lots of people milling about. Turned out they were Italian students on a language course. Our results weren't being posted until 2.30. I had booked my driving test for 12.30. What a daft thing to do but hey ho. Was so unbelievably nervous about degree grade and driving test that by the time I turned up at the test centre I was shaking with nerves. Every traffic light was red. My leg was shaking so much I stood no chance of finding the bite on the clutch. I stalled at least 4 times. I failed funnily enough. Went to college to get results. Had got a 2:1. I often wonder whether I would have passed the driving test if I'd got my degree results before I took it.

I went to the wrong evening wedding reception, even had a free drink before realising I was in the wrong suite in the hotel. Different bride!👰

My dh took my then 6 year old son to a friends nerf gun party a week early and didn’t realise.

Because the venue has lots of parties, there was one going on, and dh actually dropped ds there, chatted to the dad of the birthday boy, and then left. DS was busy looking at the nerf guns and didn’t realise he didn’t know anybody……

As they were driving out of the car park, DD, then 9, commented that she hadn’t recognised any of his classmates and to his credit dh went back and realised his mistake. DS was busy chatting to the boys and was oblivious (as was the party dad…..) DH did remove DS, but did leave the present 😂

Years ago, when our DC1 was a baby, DH booked a weekend away for us, in a hotel in Kirkoswald in Cumbria. At least, he thought he did. We arrived early evening, could find no sign of our hotel anywhere. It turned out he'd actually booked a hotel in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire. 😅 Cue frantic checking around, luckily we found a hotel that had a room available to accommodate the three of us, so we did get to enjoy our weekend away after all. 🙂

I'm very sorry you went through this...I had tickets for an Paul Young and turned up a week early...I did clock that whilst I was dolled up to the nines, stilettoes and mini skirt, everyone else was wellies, hat's and scarves...it was November 5th and our tickets were for December 5th... felt very foolish indeed...x

My dad…

He was working abroad, alone while my mum stayed working in the UK. He was living for the summer at our holiday home.
As a late teen and with my BF I flew out, as planned, to stay with him.

After waiting at the airport, early hours of the morning and realising he had forgotten to pick us up, we got a taxi to the house.

We surprised him….. he was in bed with another woman…

The early morning arrival must have got him confused with the date….

Edited

Oh god how awful for you to discover this. Was that the end of your parents marriage?

I know someone who turned up at Heathrow instead of Gatwick for their flight.

My sister had done this twice. Both times I was driving her and as we approached J15 I said “which terminal” and she said “north” and I was just like “ seriously, again!????”

Winter3000 · 25/02/2024 17:43

An ex almost booked us on a flight to Melbourne Florida instead of Melbourne Australia.
Luckily - I spotted it in time.
I knew he'd do something like that.
I wouldn't have trusted him to put the bins out, much less book any flight.
One of many reasons why I dumped his ass.

I don’t understand this - Hamilton is on until at least September? Hopefully you can rebook, all is not lost!!! At least you had some nice drinks I guess OP 😆

Wedding venue - early 90s.
Put the Sunday name cards/placement out on the Saturday.
Caused hours of awfulness.

I used to work in an opticians in Colchester. A patient came in and the optom realised she was having a retinal detachment. It was late in the day, 4.30 or so. I’m not sure what happened next but the Optom got the hospital number and called them. The eye department said that they were closing but would stay open for this patient to come in. A little while later they called back to ask where the patient was.

It turned out the optom had called Dorchester hospital, not Colchester.

I used to work in travel and the 12:00am flights used to always throw people!

im sorry you missed the show - but if makes you feel better the seats in that theatre are so uncomfortable!! If you have Disney plus - watch the show in the comfort of your own home! And you get to see the original with Lin Manuel Miranda

IDontHateRainbows · 25/02/2024 17:58

I once went to the wrong theatre, amazingly the usher didn't realise when checking our tickets and so we didn't realise until the show began and we were in the wrong show. A bit of confusion as someone else had our seats but there were some spare seats a few rows back so we just moved there. Luckily the theatre was not fully booked or we would have been out!

I used to do that job. I’d only really look at the seat number.

I went to the wrong hospital for consultant appointment. Realised when me & my husband couldn't find the department listed on the guide boards. Checked the letter and you can imagine our reaction.

Luckily, I always leave an extra bit of time. Somehow, my husband managed to get us through two busy towns in rush hour, with me panicking all the way as I was desperate for this appointment, to the correct hospital with about 2 minutes to spare.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/02/2024 18:00

Dh and I once turned up for a concert at the Festival Hall - right date, but a year early!

lto2019 · 25/02/2024 18:01

I have done it and been with someone who did it. We got to the theatre were sitting in the correct seats when another couple came along saying we were in their seats. I was thinking there was an error as both lots of tickets said the same seat number. It wasn't until the assistant came along that she noticed. It wasn't sold out and we were able to buy more tickets - seats were ok - expensive night though.
The other time - a friend was buying an extra ticket from something from Ebay and had arranged pick up outside the theatre from the seller. He wasn't there and she assumed he had ripped her off. She went to message him on ebay to complain and there was a message from him asking where she was - the night before! He gave up in the end and left the ticket with the box office for her. She looked at the listing and it had been for the night before.

Lifeomars · 25/02/2024 18:05

Booked a table at a really expensive restaurant for me and a friend, wrote the date on the calendar and you can guess the rest...friend of course turns up on the right day and then sends me a couple of texts asking where I am. I am of course out somewhere else and cannot get there. Still feel mortified whenever I think about it and it was 2 years ago. Did send my friend a bottle of wine to apologise

I got to the check in desk at Heathrow after queuing for 20 min to be told your flight is from Gatwick sir.

I got an invitation for a relative's wedding. May Bank Holiday. I was working full-time, caring for my parents and dealing with DH having health problems.

There were two bank holidays that year - one at either end of the month. It was the one at the beginning of the month...

Not quite the same, but I once went to the wrong funeral!
It was an old work colleague and I'd got the time wrong, I was early by an hour, and ended up having to sit through the funeral of a complete stranger.

The same thing happened at my Husband's funeral. The man meant to go to the next one but turned up early, and only realised as we walked in with the coffin and he was too embarrassed to move, so he sayed for the whole ceremony. A laugh on anotherwise very sad day.

Backfromhols · 25/02/2024 18:15

Not me but I was at the theatre last week watching Pretty Woman…a man sat next to me and then a lady arrived telling him he was in her seat. It turned out he was expecting to see Wizard of Oz and was a month early…
