My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

Got a phone call from a holiday let wondering when we would be picking the tickets up!
In my head it was the next week we were away
So glad the called- we ended up going and only missing 2/7 days.
Fabulous holiday too.

Not quite the same, but I once went to the wrong funeral!
It was an old work colleague and I'd got the time wrong, I was early by an hour, and ended up having to sit through the funeral of a complete stranger.

I went to the wrong funeral too. Didn't recognise anyone else there and started thinking I'd got it wrong. Eventually had to ask someone who the funeral was for just before the hearse arrived. Made a sharp exit and had to return four hours later.

With everything you have been through I would laugh it off ❤️

My parents forced me to go to graduation in London and told me they would meet me there, they never showed up they went to a different ceremony at a different Uni 😂

Arrived at the station for the 350 mile journey home with my then baby. Couldn't find the 12.30 train on the departures board, asked a staff member who pointed out I had booked a south to north train not a north to south. I cried and my darling mum whipped out her credit card and spent most of her months pension buying me an eye wateringly expensive day of travel ticket home.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 25/02/2024 13:21

I once traveled with someone who'd booked a flight home from the wrong Antigua.

We were in Guatemala and her flight was from the Caribbean island. She realised the day before when we were looking at flight times to cab share to the airport and noticed her airport code was different.

CarousingPeasants · 25/02/2024 13:22

Not just you OP. I booked 4 tickets for DH, me and 2 friends to see War Horse in London. I booked us a pre-show table at the National Theatre restaurant, had a lovely relaxed dinner and then I got the tickets out of my purse, only to realise we were at the wrong theatre. A mad dash in the wind and rain across the millennium bridge to the Drury Lane theatre. Amazingly we got there just in time.

Had an accident in my teens and got a rather fetching scar, so got laser treatment to lessen the scar. Was home for the uni holidays when I thought I had my appointment so dad took the day off work to drive me 3 hours to the hospital. I was a month late. This was 20 years ago when the NHS was half decent, they still managed to fit me in that day.

LiveOutLoudRose · 25/02/2024 13:23

I went to the wrong church for a funeral. I was late and so ran in the back (didn’t get an order of service).

Only when hymn ended and priest started talking about “x” did i start thinking, “am I in wrong place?” It was my Godmother’s mother though and I thought maybe she was known to family by a different name (the names could possibly have been a diminution think Polly for Mary). Church packed and so couldn’t see family at front. I did realise when the eulogy started, but then I just had to commit.

I did make it to the correct wake and didn’t mention my adventure.

Before Lockdown 99 (probably about no 3), it was announced with relatively short notice and was going to be my birthday. I managed to book a table the evening before, arrived at restaurant and I had booked one 50 miles away. Couldn’t get a table for love nor money so ended up at McDonald’s. I was so upset.

rubyredknowsitall · 25/02/2024 13:24

Ex-hubby booked theatre for my birthday. As I was getting ready he came and apologized, stating it was the night before. We did nothing that night...

BIossomtoes · 25/02/2024 13:25

We booked theatre tickets and completely forgot to go. So sorry you missed out @Punsandroses.

rubyredknowsitall · 25/02/2024 13:27

@LiveOutLoudRose I'm so so sorry for you but.... going to the wrong funeral did give me a bit of a giggle. Not a lot of people experience that I think!

Once turned up at the wrong hotel. I had booked the airport Travel lodge and not the city centre one close to where I needed to be for a work event. I spent an embarrassingly long time trying to insist that I DID have a booking before they pointed out to me that yes I did but not with them. In my defence it was late and I'd had a long tiring journey. It was full and they could not change it even though I was offering to pay whatever so it cost me the taxi fee to the airport and back.

Noshowlomo · 25/02/2024 13:29

Yes came back from honeymoon from LA, booked a bus back from Heathrow to Cardiff, and booked it for the day before.. we forgot about time differences so worked out what it would be leaving LAX, forgetting that it would be different in UK. Doh. Luckily my FIL drove from Cardiff to Heathrow to get us. Such plonkers.
Hope you're ok OP X

Whatineed · 25/02/2024 13:29

I had an overseas wedding and was convinced the flight was from Heathrow, only realised when we had to give the terminal number to the taxi driver that it was Gatwick.

Taxi driver was fuming, but not as much as when we arrived at Gatwick and my toddler DS vomited in the back of the taxi.

BouleDeSuif · 25/02/2024 13:29

I went into Specsavers for my appointment only to realise that I should have been in Vision Express.

I went to an interview a long way from home, needing a hotel stay and trains and lots of planning- only to find when I got to the place in the morning that I should have been in a different city altogether. (National Trust.)

Onceasailor · 25/02/2024 13:30

I went to the wrong wedding! I went with friends and we were slightly late due to waiting for ages for a taxi. The taxi left us outside of the wrong church and we snuck in the back. We could see the couple at the altar and the groom was bald - realized our mistake and snuck out again!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 25/02/2024 13:32

Twenty years ago, I spent £250 on first class train tickets to London for my mother's 60th birthday. I booked the tickets and hotel a few months in advance. When the tickets came through the post, I put them carefully aside. The day before we were due to go, I got everything ready and looked at the train tickets. I'd booked on the phone, and they must have thought I'd said September, not December. They were three months out of date! Had to ring up and pay again. I did try and appeal to their better nature, but they were having none of it (I should have checked the tickets carefully upon receipt) We had a brilliant weekend away none the less.

Redcar78 · 25/02/2024 13:33

I've turned up at the wrong airport not once but twice! 💐

TheChosenTwo · 25/02/2024 13:34

We’ve had a few stupid admin error mistakes but were told off for missing a family dentist appointment a couple of years ago, dh had booked the appointment and put it in his calendar wrong. Didn’t properly check the confirmation emails and reminder emails as presumed he had the correct date in his diary.
The day of the appointment he got a call telling him we had missed the appointment and gave him a bit of a ticking off, they made us an appointment for the following week. Not a very convenient time but never mind, I left work early and took the dc out of school 15 minutes before the end of the day, got there and we were a day early 😳
I now take charge of all the dentist appointments 😂

MelSilver · 25/02/2024 13:35

Dp went to the wrong school assembly - they're every 3 weeks and because the door is behind the front of the hall, he couldn't leave without being seen 😂

We tried to check out in vegas on the wrong day, luckily it was a day early so no probs with flights but unluckily we were young and skint and it was in days before using internet/cards abroad so we spent the day blagging drinks in the casino and had to tell work our flights were delayed

x2boys · 25/02/2024 13:35

When I was qualifying as a nurse I applied for a Job in Tameside ( fairly local to me ) or so i thought I actually applied for a job in Thameside, in Essex 😲which isn't local.to.me all
I wss offered an interview and thought what the hell.and went and offered a job😬
Decided not to take it in the end

RedRosie · 25/02/2024 13:36

Like @NatMoz I went to the wrong London theatre. I was meeting friends there and the theatres were almost next door to one another. It was even worse that I was allowed in, took my seat (same seat number available, no-one was in it) and the performance started.

I was wondering where my friends were ...

I left about ten minutes in, hoofed it to the correct theatre which had locked the doors as they do. I knocked and someone let me in ... That performance had started but an absolute angel took me in via the stage door, and snuck me to an empty seat high up. I then found my friends and correct seat at the interval.

So embarrassing.

CombatLingerie · 25/02/2024 13:37

Ah OP with all you have gone through it was an understandable mistake to make. I hope you get to see Hamilton at some point and wish you a full and speedy recovery. My DH and I once travelled to Bath which is a considerable distance for us. We had booked tickets for an art exhibition at the Holburne Museum. The ticket email stated 5pm entry for the exhibition. Thought the timing was a bit strange but hey ho. Checked into nice hotel and walked to the museum to find it closed. I could see staff still there through the window looking a bit shifty. I pointed to our tickets and one of them mouthed through the window ‘come back tomorrow’. We went back the next morning turned out it was a typo on the ticket email! We didn’t mind but when a snooty woman working there didn’t even apologise and tried to blame us I did get a bit cross. I don’t think she had ever experienced the wrath of an irate Northerner before 😂.

idontlikealdi · 25/02/2024 13:37

Went to Heathrow for a flight instead of Gatwick, feasibly had enough time, just to make it but there was an accident on the motorway and missed it.

I've been with Specsavers for years. Turned up for my appointment (only last month!) to them insisting I didn't have an appointment with them. I'd booked with Vision Express. I'd never even been in there! So they made me a new appointment with them for the following week. And I turned up an hour late for that. 🤦‍♀️

My mother once had a 6 hour drive to a caravan holiday to find she was a month early! Had to come home and do it all again the next month.
