My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

Went to the hairdressers and was annoyed they had not record of my appointment. They did find space for me though, it was only when I was sitting with the colour on my hair, that I realised I was in the wrong hairdressers!!

Got to airport for a flight and realised I'd left my passport at home! My friend broke all sorts of records getting me home and back and I made the flight.

We live four hours away from the airport so this is one of my worst fears.

I once had a hospital appointment which wasn't exactly close to home and only realised when I got there that the appointment was following day instead and by that time I had wasted about half a day. I had to lie to work and said I was told to return the next day for more tests.

@Punsandroses Hamilton will be at Bradford Alhambra theatre this time next year if that's any good for you.

That's Bradford, West Yorkshire
😉. Not "Upon Avon".

(See you there!).

I've done so many of these: wrong theatre, day early for the dentist, day late for the GP, week early for a birthday party, wrong flight, wrong school...

I have two worth sharing. I once organised a conference involving flying various people into a different European city from around the world. I got everyone sorted, flew in myself, got to the hotel, who had no record of my booking. It turned out that I'd booked rooms for everyone except myself Hmm and the hotel (and the one next to it) was full. My boss very sweetly offered to sleep on a sofa in the hotel bar so I could have his room but I ended up sharing for the first night with a colleague I'd never met, then getting my own room the next day. Mortifying.

The other one isn't mine but at a wedding where I was a bridesmaid. On the day of the wedding the bridesmaids' pre-booked taxi didn't show up so we told the bride and her dad to go and we'd follow ASAP. We phoned for a taxi and duly arrived at the church - no sign of the bride. 20 minutes later, we were getting a bit worried. 10 minutes after that, the wedding car comes screeching round the corner and pulls up at the church, to our very great relief. It transpired that the driver had mixed up and taken them to a different village. The bride had thought he was just taking them the long way round to give us bridesmaids time to catch up, and only realised when he pulled up at the wrong church!

I hope your treatment is going well OP and that you manage to laugh about this mishap.

When we were in Paris, I booked a flight into one airport and out of another as the flights were much cheaper. On the day I was leaving, I went to the wrong airport for my flight. It ended up costing a night in a hotel, another flight home and an additional day off work.

Drearydiedre · 25/02/2024 22:07

I went to the wrong church for a wedding

hulahooper2 · 25/02/2024 22:07

Went to see a show , group came in after us insisting we were in their seats , argued about it then realised we had right seats but we were a night too early , staff found us seats elsewhere but didn’t take our tickets so friends made use of them the correct night

dutysuite · 25/02/2024 22:13

Packed all our suitcases drove to the airport early in the morning only to discover we were a day early so drove all the way back to our villa.

My parents turn to a doctor appointment a month earlier.
NSome I know went to get his flight at 6PM and the flight was at 6AM. He didn't recalled the 24 clock. He saw 6 and went for the one who thought was more convenient.
This things happened.

Notjustabrunette · 25/02/2024 22:16

Booked a taxi home from the airport a day earlier as I got confused with time zones and my dh miss read the time arriving in London as the time for leaving Paris on the Eurostar, so we had to book last minute first class (only tickets available) home! All very expensive.

TheAlertCrow · 25/02/2024 22:16

Not the same but I turned up for a job interview a day early, was so embarrassed I didn’t go back the following day for the actual interview!

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 25/02/2024 22:18

I know I’ve done this but I’ve probably blocked it from my memory. 😄

One that does spring to mind isn’t quite as bad as missing flights etc but does make me laugh. Was in town having coffee with friends when I realised that my car park ticket was going to run out and I needed to go back and put another ticket on.

Lovely friend says he’s got to head off anyway so he’ll walk me back. As we’re nearing the car park I realise that I left my bag with my other friends in the cafe and my car key is in my bag. I forgot to pick it up.

I wave him off to his car and when he’s out of sight I run back to the cafe to get my keys. My friends thought it was hilarious. I don’t know why I didn’t just say to the other friend that I’d forgotten my key. Probably felt enough of a twat already without everybody knowing.

BlueGrey1 · 25/02/2024 22:18

2 airports in Barcelona, went to the wrong one ( wasn’t aware there were 2) missed my flight, had to book another one

Another time I missed a flight as-well, got to the airport 2 mins after the gates were closed, missed my flight and my friends wedding, booked a flight for the next day though and still met them….learnt my lesson though and now arrive on time

Forgot to return an expensive leather jacket (350) within the 28 day return period, now stuck with it and don’t even wear it as I don’t like it

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 25/02/2024 22:19

@BlueGrey1 can’t you just sell it? At least recoup some of the money.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 25/02/2024 22:29

We booked flights from Gatwick. DH booked a hotel at Heathrow.

neilyoungismyhero · 25/02/2024 22:30

My son in law turned up at the Dentist an hour late or early can't remember which. My daughter, who was with him for her appointment, bollocked him, only to be told she was a week early.

Zampa · 25/02/2024 22:31

Flew from London to Dublin for my cousin's wedding. Turned up at the register office and found out we'd arrived a week early.

I fortunately could stay for the week but when the wedding finally came around, another guest and I were wearing the same dress

DIYnovices · 25/02/2024 22:32

My ex was one of those people who was always right and couldn’t be told otherwise. He booked us tickets for something HE wanted to see for my birthday. A couple of days before I mentioned Friday night and he said it was on Saturday. I said he might want to check the tickets and he snapped that no, it was definitely Friday. I’m sure you can see where this is going!!

Saturday comes around and he goes to print the tickets. Of course they are for Friday and we’ve missed it!! I didn’t care as I didn’t want to go anyway. He was so so angry and the thing that had obviously riled him the most was that I had been right and in no way could he do his usual of blaming me. The other way round and I wouldn’t have heard the end of it.

I was with this prince among men for nearly two years. This was one of many catalysts to me finally dumping him. The funny thing was that he was devastated when I did and completely lost the plot and couldn’t function. Didn’t see that coming!

ArthurWrightus · 25/02/2024 22:37

I went to a gig at e.g. CITY Arena and the security guard said I wasn't the first one to make the mistake but actually the gig was at REGION Arena. 30+ minutes away! Fortunately I was ridiculously early so made it to the right place on time but I found myself at the back rather than the front. We're all human.

TheSilentSister · 25/02/2024 22:39

I turned up at airport parking to find that I'd booked the wrong airport. Not only did I lose the money I paid but I had to pay out almost double for the right airport.

EconomyClassRockstar · 25/02/2024 22:42

Awww, that sucks OP. If it helps, I once drove my parents and 4 children 7 hrs to a major city, arriving at midnight to discover I'd booked the hotel for one month's time. The hotel was fully booked. We were so lucky that their sister hotel round the corner had rooms free, although the only ones they had that could fit us in were the two penthouse suites that were eye wateringly expensive.

We laugh about it now but my credit card has never forgiven me. 😁

MotherofWhippets81 · 25/02/2024 22:42

I burst into the private room at pizza express for a hobby group meeting - only I was a week early and there was a bemused family in there having a bit of a party.

They invited me to join them 😭

Sorry though OP that's rubbish.

Channellingsophistication · 25/02/2024 22:49

I once turned up for a flight at 8pm that actually went at 8am that morning …
