My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

We went all the way to Paris to a concert and realised the morning of the gig we were supposed to be there the night before … managed to get two tickets and attend (for extortionate prices!)

I had to go to the US with work and I arrived at my hotel and was really confused that they couldn’t find my booking, and the lady instantly worked out that the reservation wasn’t until the following night but because I’d travelled west it wasn’t the next day yet!!! I was so baffled and she said it happened all the time and checked me in! How embarrassing.

FarmersWife2019 · 25/02/2024 20:47

DH and I, along with a group of friends, had tickets to see a band. It was a couple of hours away from home so an overnight stay was needed. We showed up at the hotel who confirmed our room booking (but it was the week after!) Luckily they had a last minute room we could book but at extra expense. We couldn’t cancel the original booking so lost the money and we didn’t use it.

DH, a keen runner got very early to drive about 60 miles to a marathon, got there and realised it was on the day before.

😁

I missed a dental hygienist appointment - just totally put it in the wrong date in my calendar.
had to grovel on the phone to make sure they would let me rebook…

I did something similar to my son(13) and granddaughter(15). They wanted to go see the newest FNAF movie when it came out here.
They had to go to a city a couple hours away. So I bought tickets online. Arranged to meet my granddaughter in a city 1/2 way between the 2 cities as her mom was going to take both kids there.

They got there to discover that the tickets I bought were for the previous day.
Luckily the theatre manager felt sorry for them and found them 2 seats so they could still see it.
No I triple check before clicking on checkout when buying tickets online.

Turned up to airport with family for much looked forward to week in the sun only
to find out At check that my passport had expired.we had to head back home.i was in tears. Luckily out only child at that pint was young and so didn't understand.

I turned up for an exam on the wrong date - unfortunately 2 days after it had happened! I’d paid £80 for it. The invigilator told me she’d once gone all the way to London on the wrong day for one (about a 4 1/2 hour journey from where we are)

Illstartexercisingtomorrow · 25/02/2024 21:11

I once went to the wrong funeral.

Ended up getting three in one day in my pursuit to find the right one.

Worst (best??) bit was having to ‘fess up to the mourners in front of me as I needed to exit one funeral to get to the other in time, and they were in fits of laughter.

I booked flights to spend Christmas day with my family .... in November Blush

mygrandchildrenrock · 25/02/2024 21:16

Not me, but a dear friend. I had just got married, and came out of the church to see my dear friend and her twin babies outside. I assumed they had been crying and she’d taken them outside. No, she’d been at the wrong church, by the time she realised and left, she’d got to our church just as we came out!

Essie274 · 25/02/2024 21:17

My friend met her husband because she's an idiot and ended up in Newcastle-under-lyme instead of Newcastle-upon-tyne! She was sobbing in a pub about her mistake and he bought her a drink and gave her a place to stay... and the rest is history

I was once taking what was supposed to be 4 stops on a tramline from where I was staying in a European city (can't remember which one! Think it might have been Sofia or Bucharest, possibly Bratislava) to the airport. It was a circular line. I somehow ended up getting on the tram in the wrong direction and didn't realise until I was half way round so just had to sit there and enjoy the loop. I should have missed my flight as the doors had closed and the bus taxi-ing the passengers to the plane had left, but they took pity on me and I ended up on a bus from terminal to plane on my own!

I went to the vets to get the dog vaccinated and when they called his name, I realised he was still at home. I'd forgotten him.

That’s made my day. Thank you. 😭

It was one hell of a walk of shame 😂😂

ButtonMoon5 · 25/02/2024 21:23

I booked a creative writing workshop and turned up a day late! An expensive mistake... and no, I didn't write a story about it!

GrandTheftWalrus · 25/02/2024 21:24

Got to airport for a flight and realised I'd left my passport at home! My friend broke all sorts of records getting me home and back and I made the flight.

GrumpySausage · 25/02/2024 21:34

Not the wrong fares but the wrong location. Staying with family in Florida, decided to take the kids to Busch Gardens Tampa. American family member was showing me tickets online at a certain price- thanked her and said I'd sort when back at our accommodation.

Booked tickets later, feeling smug that the tickets I'd found were cheaper than the ones the local person had found. Still cost us £300 though.

Set off next morning-handed the tickets over to the guy in the gate. 'Erm these are for Busch Gardens Williamsburg' 838 miles away. Felt my soul leave my body.

Amazingly we were sent to reception who managed to get us tickets for that day. And said they'd refund the Williamsburg tickets. But it was a tense week watching the bank account waiting for the refund to go through.

That'll teach me for assuming I know more than a local.

MovingBird123 · 25/02/2024 21:34

I've booked tickets to a concert a year later than expected...

Elphamouche · 25/02/2024 21:36

Happens all the time. Or people buy tickets for the West End instead of the regional, that’s quite common.

It’s much nicer when people turn up early, but I did have someone turn up a year early once!

Tootytoot78 · 25/02/2024 21:38

When I was childminding I looked after a pair of twin girls. They were due to start at the local nursery, took them into the school and the girls shot off to play, the teacher looked puzzled and ask for the girls names.

Turns out their Mum had told me the wrong nursery, and the girls should have gone to our other village school!!!
Hasty embarrassed exit, with two very miffed little girls.

We turned up a little late to the correct school, and when I explained what had happened, they thought it was hilarious. So did the twins Mum, but she did apologise for her cock up.

PandaChopChop · 25/02/2024 21:49

I do this kind of stuff all this time. Have turned up to appointments on right day, right time, wrong hospital. Mixed my own appointments up with my sons. Booked airport car parking for a week later than flight cue a mad dash to get it sorted, very nearly missed the flight.
Turned up to my nans funeral late. Mortified.

I now check and re-check and put alarms in several calendars because I'm notorious for things like this.
I think I just fix stuff in my head and then it's obviously wrong. So embarrassing 😳

In the days when the power companies had high street shops - went to the electric company to say that my heating wasn't working. My gas central heating.

This one wasn't my fault but was one of my birthday related fears come true...

I booked a hall and a kids sports company to come and run a football party for DS's 6th birthday.

I spoke to the football people 2 days before to confirm. All good.

Party day arrives and the football people didn't show up. I called and called and they FINALLY called me back to say they had no record of my booking and that the person I had been conversing/emailing with had failed to confirm anything.

I had 30 kids to entertain for 2 hours. Luckily, someone found a ball and a fantastic, enterprising parent got them playing musical chairs, statues, duck duck goose and so on. I was so very, very grateful.

The football people refunded me the cost of the hall hire plus their fee and delivered a trophy to DS. DS hadn't even noticed anything was amiss!
