My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

I once booked a return flight for a month later than I needed it and didn’t realise until I went to check in

hothotheatbag · 26/02/2024 02:35

These are making me laugh and feel so much better, I get my dates and numbers muddled all the time, things like this happen to me almost weekly.

I got ready got my staff member with me, dressed up for a big important meeting in London involved early starts and 2 hours on a train, we then got stuck in traffic in a taxi and messaged the team saying could they message the client to say we'd be late .. silence . Ummm boss the meeting is tomorrow. Woops

I've turned up to the small local cinema with friends and someone was in our seats turned out my tickets were for the Saturday not Friday, luckily we got seats.

But about 4 months later we booked again and I double and triple checked everyone laughing and joking about me and my mistakes and we got there and there was a family in our seats, I was so so confused a I swear I'd checked and it tuned out they had done the exact same thing... but my heart sank.

I've almost missed flights looking at departure times, I've missed flights due to clocks changing. I've been to the wrong airports.

Only last week I missed an hair appointment.

My DH knows to check and double check anything I book, I sit for ages checking.

And I still get it in my head my hairdressers is on a Tuesday and then plan my work around this Tuesday when in fact I look at the diary and it's Wednesday.

My whole life has been like this as my mum does the same.

Remembered another one. Advanced a load of cabs for your wedding guests for midnight (what were we thinking!) None turned up. Rang the cab company and they had us down for midnight the following day. Managed to get cabs for everyone but we (the newly weds) had to wait hours and hours. We refused to go before we knew everyone else was sorted. All turned out fine though. Never book anything for midnight!

ilovesushi · 26/02/2024 09:19

Advance booked I meant to say.

That's a good lifehack for the owls - ten to or ten past but never on the hour.

My Dad once went to the wrong Crematorium for a funeral. He was the vicar.

😂Oh my. What happened? Crematoriums run to quite a tight schedule.

blab90 · 26/02/2024 12:30

Me and my sister both did this (separately) in the same week when we were in our late teens/early 20s!

DSis went to Amsterdam with friends for a few nights but realised when she got to the airport to depart that her tickets were for the week after. Cue many tears and phonecalls to our parents who paid for a new ticket home.

I obviously thought this was hilarious and a daft thing to do. How could anyone book the wrong date?!

Well, I found out 5 days later when I tried to check in to a B&B in York for my DH birthday and after a lot of back and forth, was informed that I'd actually booked the room for a month later. Thankfully, there was a room spare so we managed to stay but I wasn't bloody laughing anymore!!

It was many years ago @Charlotte. In London in 80s.
He happened to see a person he knew was going, from the top of the bus...realised he may have got it wrong, got off and got a taxi, was just in time.
You're right, they do run to a tight schedule...
He was always very irritated when,(particularly in those days) he had weddings and funerals scheduled on the same day at church, and the bride might turn up, sometimes, 45 minutes late and the funeral cortege was in the process of arriving.

More from me…
My partner packed up the car and trailer tent, for a summer trip to France. Locked up the house and as he set off saw one of his DC’s waving from the living room window.
My exDH and his new wife (OW), flew to New York to see a very special ( to them) show on Broadway. Apparently, on arriving at the hotel, went for a quick...nap… and missed the show completely.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 26/02/2024 17:28

@Maarlia your ex and his other woman flew all the way to New York just to miss the show? I’d call that a bit of karma.

BackOfTheMum5net · 26/02/2024 17:46

Bought my husband tickets to see his favourite band on 02/01. Calendar saved it as 01/02 so we totally missed it!

Yesterday stupidly didn’t do enough research to realise that the AO arena Manchester is connected to Victoria station. Not Piccadilly station and also that there are no connecting trains. Cut short for time, ripped off by black cab driver, ended up having to walk 20 minutes around the corner to the pre show event

rosegoldJune · 26/02/2024 17:51

Yes many years ago I arrived to a dentist appointment in the afternoon convinced it was an afternoon appointment to be told it was actually a morning appointment but got the day right, I was heavily pregnant at the time but I apologised & asked if could reschedule for another day, to be told no & that I would have to pay a £10 charge, I was nearly in tears & so apologetic but the receptionist was having non of it.

Devonchills · 25/02/2024 13:06

Not quite the same, but I once went to the wrong funeral!
It was an old work colleague and I'd got the time wrong, I was early by an hour, and ended up having to sit through the funeral of a complete stranger.

My DH and I once arrived at the wrong wedding.

penguinwaddl3 · 26/02/2024 18:00

I once went to the wrong campus for uni and had to travel across London in an expensive Uber. Not as bad but still embarrassing

Mothership4two · 26/02/2024 18:05

My DH once went to several wrong weddings! He was young and daft and forgot to take the wedding invite with him. This was pre-mobile phone days. He took a taxi from the station and got him to take him to all the churches in the city where he stuck his head around the door. He eventually found the right one, but had missed the bulk of it by then (and hopefully didn't ruin any of the others!).

Mothership4two · 26/02/2024 18:10

No way as bad as @Maarlia's nearly leaving DC, but when I was 12 we were 20 minutes into a 7-8 hour car journey in a very packed up car and very early in the morning, when I asked M&D "where's the dog?". Cue handbreak turn back to pick her up. But I suppose could have been worse!

TulipinUK · 26/02/2024 18:25

That made me chuckle!! 😆😆

I love this! Which church? Dunno, I'll check all of them 😁

I once went to the wrong theatre! There are 2 in Manchester and me, 7 months pregnant had to dart from one to the other and got in our seats with literally a minute to spare!

Ha ha I did the same! Also 7 months pregnant running through manchester - got a few looks!

houseshouses · 26/02/2024 19:03

Booked an appointment to register our newborn at the registry office, arrived 5 hours too early and it was too much hassle to wait around with a newborn after an hours journey to get there. We rebooked for the following week, and went home.

Set off for rebooked appointment, got there for the correct time.... 2 days late.

They didn't have any spare appointments so we rebooked again. Thankfully third time lucky as we would have received a fine otherwise.

ValarieKK · 26/02/2024 19:12

I went on honeymoon a day early. Stood at the airport in the Tenerife queue quite contentedly until we got to the bag drop off. 😳
The airport staff were highly amused. 🙄
Had to slink back home (both mine and DPs family lived over the road) and hide until the next day. Shuffled about in the dark etc.
So nobody knew. 🫣
it was all his fault……. 😂

Stressybetty · 26/02/2024 19:31

This was around 22 years ago, was in Disneyland Paris just before Christmas, stupidly didn't work out what time we needed to leave to get the sea cat which only ran once a day. Missed it and had to drive round to the ferry and pay again for that.

GingersOwner26 · 26/02/2024 19:32

15 years old and just started my GCSE exams, I remember thinking I ought to check what date the following week my orthodontist (or it may have been regular dentist) appointment was. Turned out it was in 20 minutes time and I had to run all the way there. Thinking about it now I don’t know how I made it, maybe they were running late enough that I could get away with it. I must have checked it at some point to make sure it didn’t coincide with any of my exams, and then blanked on the day.
