Men wearing slippers

This is entirely lighthearted.

My DH (48 years old) refuses to wear slippers. He's just complained that his feet are cold, so I have suggested, again, that he buys some. We have hard floors all the way through downstairs, so it seems sensible.

He thinks if he starts wearing slippers, it's some sort of slippery (no pun intended) slope to old age.

I've tried telling him that younger men wear slippers, but he's having none of it!

So, Mumsnet, help me out - does your DH wear slippers?? Did they do so when younger, or are they really the preserve of the older man???

What does he think of house shoes? They're a half way between slipper and shoe.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/02/2024 12:34

Our 21 year old loves his Cosy Crew Christmas, fur lined slippers 😁

Glittering1 · 24/02/2024 12:36

My DH is 44 and also won't wear slippers. He wears sliders around the house. He doesn't feel the cold though. I've bought him lounge wear before too that he didn't wear, preferring a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms for watching TV in the evenings.

Whole family of slipper wearers due to cold floors! Have done since age 25 when we first moved to a house with wooden floors.
DH prefers crocs or slipper socks with non slip dots on the sole.
It doesn’t have to be the traditional style man’s slipper if he doesn’t like the look. DH wouldn’t wear those either, tbh.
I wouldn’t care if he wore them though.

Dartmoorcheffy · 24/02/2024 12:37

My dp is 41 and always wears slippers.

suntannedsnowballsinhell · 24/02/2024 12:38

My DH is a slipper snob

Barbour ones at present, he claims they're a hug to the foot

He said he could never go back to Matalan/Tesco etc.

I am also a slipper snob tbh but at least mine last longer than a year. I've furry Ugg platform ones on, they're battered but perfectly moulded to my delicate tootsies

HannaHat · 24/02/2024 12:38

Mine hit 50 and started wearing them 😬
Before that it was sliders.

Notimeforaname · 24/02/2024 12:49

Got my partner his first pair of slippers at the age of 25. Hes 34 now and theyre the first thing he looks for when he gets home 🤣

ThreeRingCircus · 24/02/2024 12:51

DH is 38 and has worn slippers for as long as I've known him! So definitely since his 20s. He currently has a favourite pair from Ugg.

FabFebHalfTerm · 24/02/2024 12:54

Wowcher not Witcher bloody phone

Dilbertian · 24/02/2024 12:55

He's being daft.

My dh has always worn slippers indoors as long as I have known him. He favours sheepskin moccasins. One ds wears tartan fleece backless slippers. Another favours the same as dad. A third goes barefoot and claims his blue feet are perfectly comfortable and warm. All mid-20s and younger.

Precipice · 24/02/2024 12:56

No one wears slippers here, but then no one complains their feet are cold.

BookwormDadUK · 24/02/2024 12:57

I always wear slippers at home. Currently in my 30s. Although your DH may have a point; I'm essentially an 80-year-old trapped in a younger body.

LorlieS · 24/02/2024 12:57

My husband does (48) and has done for quite some time. In fact I treated him to a pair of Rab ones at Christmas. He's definitely comfort over looks and they're like two sleeping bags on his feet!
I mean I can vouch for the fact they're extremely comfortable as I'm currently wearing them (way too big but can't find mine anywhere!!) 😀

Blueeyedmale · 24/02/2024 12:58

I stopped wearing slippers at 14 lol yea I'm one of those men that thinks wearing slippers is a sign of old age and the fact my feet are only 5.5 think it would be difficult to find a good pair.

LorlieS · 24/02/2024 13:00

Well at 48 our 3 yo has aged my husband more than a pair of slippers ever could!! The teenagers are a dream though! 😀

ClutchingOurBananas · 24/02/2024 13:00

I hate slippers. I’d find it impossible to fancy a man (of any age) in slippers. Any slippers.

Puzzlefactor · 24/02/2024 13:04

My DH always wears slippers. My adult son used to nick and wear his GFs slipper boots so I bought him some of his own. He now has a lovely pair of his supported football team themed slippers his GF bought him as a joke present but he wears them all the time.

TheChosenTwo · 24/02/2024 13:04

Haha @ClutchingOurBananas same here!
I mean wear whatever you feel comfortable, I do and don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks but if dh or I ever take to wearing slippers I will consider that we’ve given up on life - same as wearing a fleece 😂
No one here owns slippers.

donteatthedaisies0 · 24/02/2024 13:06

Depends on the family you grew up in , all my family wore slippers . Loved nothing more than getting home from work freezing cold and putting baffies (Scottish word for slippers) on . My children from when really young wore character slippers . My husband on the other hand has them but forgets 🙄.

Superawkward · 24/02/2024 13:07

What about Crocs? My kids wear crocs as slippers.

My ex used to do the school run in all weather in a pair of flip flops and shorts. Then had the cheek to complain once in December he was cold!

Pigeonqueen · 24/02/2024 13:08

I wear slippers. I love them. My dh is 36 and wouldn’t be seen dead in them. 🙈He would rather moan about being cold. 😳

TeenLifeMum · 24/02/2024 13:09

Dh believes the same. I finally convinced him and he purchased the cheapest ones in primark and they fell apart so he’s confirmed they’re pointless 🙄

This is how I feel. 🤣

I can maybe think of a reason for fleece. But it’s all layer for snow sports or hillwalking related. But deciding to don the fleece for a trip to the shops is definitely crossing a threshold to the death of desire.
