Men wearing slippers

This is entirely lighthearted.

My DH (48 years old) refuses to wear slippers. He's just complained that his feet are cold, so I have suggested, again, that he buys some. We have hard floors all the way through downstairs, so it seems sensible.

He thinks if he starts wearing slippers, it's some sort of slippery (no pun intended) slope to old age.

I've tried telling him that younger men wear slippers, but he's having none of it!

So, Mumsnet, help me out - does your DH wear slippers?? Did they do so when younger, or are they really the preserve of the older man???

I'm with him and I'm 52! I always said wouldn't wear them as they're something old folk wear - and yes, I know that's ridiculous

However we have mainly hard flooring downstairs and it was killing my feet so I've had to throw the towel in

I wear either Ugg tasmans or white company fluffy sliders as slippers now - not ready to embrace mauve quilted ones just yet I don't think

We both wear gumbies. I bought my partner a pair because he kept wearing mine.

I am with him. Cannot stand slippers on anyone.

Allbirds or something?

My 18 year old son wears slippers. He has in fact, warn them since was a toddler.
I am 51 years old and have worn slippers all my life. I hate having cold feet.
Tell him to get himself some slippers, they don't have to be "old folk" ones, or the next time he whinges you'll send him to bed with no supper because he's acting like a child.

Dh was similar. Ended up grabbing some for him. He loves them now. Age 36.
However he actually prefers the ' older mans style' than slip on ones

Slippers are cozy!

Yeah that wonderful feeling of coming home from work kicking off your shoes and putting them on , heaven .

I see a few people have suggested Ugg (or other similar fur lined slippers with decent soles) but also google Bruar, British sheepskin company, Welsh sheepskin, or you can get fur lined crocs now. 🌹

Since I've known him, met when he was 20.....

DH wears slippers in the winter and sliders in the summer. He's had slippers as long as I've known him.

RunningThroughMyHead · 24/02/2024 16:05

Slippers? Mine won't wear pyjamas. He's laugh me out of the house for suggesting slippers.

To be honest, I don't wear slippers much. I have a pair that I'll wear on particularly cold days, but I find they get in the way. They're mules and I've nearly tripped countless times on the stairs with them so now they stay downstairs.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 24/02/2024 16:08

Always wear slippers even in summer (although I do tend to wear flip flops as well) my feet get so cold. I take them on holiday and everything.

Always faux fur lined fat face ones, I do have some furry boot ones for when it's really cold.

I've recently found the bliss of furry lined Cabin socks.

My 18yo wears slippers.
dh wears slippers too agd has done so fir many years. I’d say since he was in his early 30s?

I’m afraid My answer to your dh would ‘if you decide to not wear slippers, you made a choice and don’t get to grumble about cold feet’

You mean you can’t stand other people wearing some either? 😵‍💫😵‍💫

I’m neither male nor young and I don’t wear slippers either. Or socks in the house unless it’s well below freezing. Hideously uncomfortable things. Bare feet are the business.

Droolylabradors · 24/02/2024 16:37

We have stones floors throughout. DH wears slippers. There is nothing less sexy, but I appreciate the need to keep his feet warm.

I don't wear slippers as they make my feet burn (raynauds and chilblains) if I really cold I wear my trainers or a pair of loose wool socks. But I'm mainly barefoot.

DH is 46 but has been wearing slippers since we met 21 yrs ago.

I agree. The last thing I want on my feet in the house are slippers.

I wear shoes outside because you just need to. And in the office at work because it’s expected.

The thought of getting home to change into some stupid indoor shoes is horrific. My children love be barefoot too. The joy in this house is coming home and removing the footwear.

I have hard floors everywhere downstairs and it’s fine. We wear socks if required. But everyone prefers not to.

I simply could not fancy a man in slippers.
