Men wearing slippers

This is entirely lighthearted.

My DH (48 years old) refuses to wear slippers. He's just complained that his feet are cold, so I have suggested, again, that he buys some. We have hard floors all the way through downstairs, so it seems sensible.

He thinks if he starts wearing slippers, it's some sort of slippery (no pun intended) slope to old age.

I've tried telling him that younger men wear slippers, but he's having none of it!

So, Mumsnet, help me out - does your DH wear slippers?? Did they do so when younger, or are they really the preserve of the older man???

DS1 wears slippers and he's 25. Sometimes he wears sliders instead but rarely is he just in socks as our tiled kitchen floor is freezing!

I'm a 40 y/o man and wear socks. I'd never consider slippers.

But I would never go barefooted, so...

We all wear and love slippers, including DS21 and DS19. They get quite excited when they get new slippers 🤣

Why are slippers so much worse than, say, a thick pair of "cosy" socks?

Why is a fleece so much worse than a hoody?

Weird isn't it when you think about it?

My OH is 44 and has slippers - in fact bright orange Dragonball ones 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Well, not sure why his feet are cold - he can just keep his shoes on, surely ? Wooden floors (and indeed carpets but that is another thread) are designed to be walked upon.

However, for your spreadsheet, yes, my dh has always owned / worn slippers.
My ds, in his 20s also wears slippers if he hasn't gone out the house that day.

My 60yo DH wears Birkenstock Boston clogs around the house. They don't look like slippers, he can go outside in them and they keep his feet warm.

How ridiculous.

My teens are currently wearing Freudian Slippers and D&D slippers respectively. I'm wearing Moshulu purple slippers and DH a pair of striped ones he's had for years. We have quarry stone flooring downstairs and they make perfect sense. Bog all to do with ageism and everything to do with good sense.

It’s like the difference between perfectly an acceptable nightie or pyjamas and something your granny would have worn.

Obviously people are welcome to choose the voluminous granny option if they like. But personally I feel doing so would be giving up on life.

My sister started wearing hotter shoes in her 30s. It’s not a choice I’d make.

My DS 24 has worn his for a good few years, no pint being cold

My dh is 36 and wears slippers! We also have no carpet downstairs so it's needed in the winter.

My Dh wears slippers in the evening and always has done but he works in a manual job and is up and down ladders and round building sites all day so he wears heavy work boots with steel toes. His feet are wrecked by the end of the day and he needs something comfortable to wear.

We have cold hard floors downstairs. We all wear slippers.

SIL stays with us for two or three nights once a month for work purposes. He keeps stuff here, including a pair of slippers. I think they are M&S. He is 28.

My husband would love slippers but I refuse to countenance the idea. It really would be the sign that he’s given up and I would never be able to find him remotely attractive again. <shudder>

My husband wears slippers at all times in the house and has done since we got together when he was 22. He’s now 31. I don’t know about them being the preserve of the older man, I just know we live in a farmhouse with slate and wooden flooring throughout the ground floor and you’d be a fool not to wear slippers 😂

DH is 40, always wears slippers in the house. We've been together since we were 18 and I'm pretty sure he's always had them. Definitely since his early 20s.

Mine has slip on sandal-y things for wearing in the house. They keep his feet off the floor and warm enough. I wear crocs. Only bust out my slippers when it's really cold.

My DP does own slippers and wears them - but he does feel it’s a slippery slope to old age! But he dislikes cold feet more. 😅He’s 34.

@Allthegoodusernamesareused I have always bought my hubby slippers. sometimes he wears them, sometimes he doesnt. the dogs like them though, especially in their beds when hubby is looking for them! what does your hubby wear on his feet then, anything at all???

DH never wears slippers but just because I don’t think he gets cold feet, but my SIL who is 30 has sheepskin Uggs. Wears them all the time.

Mine was a slipper refuser too and then he had a hospital admission so I bought him a pair expecting to never see him wear him once he was discharged. But he loves them!! It’s now become a full on ritual of changing from his work shoes into his slippers!

Slippers are cozy!

Yes, he wears real sheepskin mules. DS 29
and SiL 30 both wear those ski cabin padded type slippers.
