DSS selling condoms to classmates

Just after some opinions really. DSS is 15, in year 10. We've found out he's been buying condoms and selling them for £1 each to his mates. His mums not concerned. Should we stop him? I'm not sure how I feel about it.

OK thanks everyone. I can stop worrying about it now. He's a lovely lad. I don't think he'd be the least bit bothered about having to explain himself to the headteacher, he's got the gift of the gab! I just didn't want to see him get in any major trouble with gcses approaching etc.

I was able to get glow in the dark ones for free when my ds was 15, I have no idea if he sold them on, but he said he was popular. 😁

AutumnCrow · 23/02/2024 18:00

The kids used to be able to send off for a free model penis as well (erect) to practice putting them on. I thought it was a good idea.

The GP on one of our local 'multi agency' lottery committees was quite scandalised.

Wonder how many of his customers are only buying them because they don't want to be the only ones not 😆Not a bad business model.

Why would he get in trouble? He isn't breaking any laws encouraging safe sex. And as long as it is between consenting teens of the same age, while technically underage, no one gives a toss. He is hardly forcing anyone into either buying or using them!

Seems entrepreneurial to me.

Um he is running a business that’s not registered for cash in hand . Enterprising but not exactly innocent.

Cheeesus · 23/02/2024 19:53

Ours aren’t allowed to sell anything at school. That’s the only issue that I can see.

That boy will go far.

😂😂 agreed

A. Businesses do not need to be “registered” B. You don’t understand what cash in hand means (clue: it’s not about taking payment from customers).

Stargazer75 · 23/02/2024 19:58

Its definitely something you will all laugh about when he's older 😂 what an entrepreneurial spirit he has!
If anything he is promoting safe sex so that's a good thing.
It's is funny, but certainly not something to be worried about. He sounds like he'll go far. High Five to him!

cansu · 23/02/2024 19:59

He will get into trouble. Think about it another way. How would you and other parents feel if the school sold these condoms? I am guessing it would be seen as extremely dodgy and very exploitative given they are available free of charge from sexual health services. When they are provided by teen health services they are given out with appropriate advice. This really is not on and the school will be furious and his gift of the gab shit will get him nowhere

Newsenmum · 23/02/2024 20:02

He’s 15 so he’s underage and who/what age is he selling them to? It’s not something I’d want him doing I agree. You can maybe talk to him and tell him to be carful who he sells to and that he might get in trouble, but not be too involved apart from that.

cansu · 23/02/2024 20:02

Also consider how girls might feel to be in the midst of this. Teen boys laughing and joking about needing condoms in a likely laddish way may make girls uncomfortable. School culture can often be laddish. This won't help.

PossumintheHouse · 23/02/2024 20:02

I’m interested to know what kind of profit margin you’re looking at with a £1 condom? Asking for a friend.

Andthereyougo · 23/02/2024 20:03

It’s not cigarettes or drugs. Well done that lad, I hope he goes far.

spiritualawakening · 23/02/2024 20:04

Where do you buy condoms in bulk?
(Misses point of thread)

Whereas I'm sure the girls would be far more comfortable if the boys refused to have anything to do with condoms.

TheTecknician · 23/02/2024 20:09

I shall call him 'Rubber Johnny, the Kondom King'. He is doing nothing wrong, far from it.

GHSP · 23/02/2024 20:09

I was going to be sniffy but the lad’s preventing teenage pregnancies. Buying a condom is far healthier than buying a vape or sweets. Fair play to him.

I'm not sure I agree. I do about boys, goodness knows DD is in the middle of the cess pit of teenage boys right now. But surely condoms should be AOK all the time.

LondonQueen · 23/02/2024 20:12

Most of them are selling vapes so I wouldn't be too concerned! He's promoting safe sex which I imagine most 15 year olds don't participate in. Hence teenage pregnancies and STDs.

What are you talking about? Teen health services just give them out to whoever asks - they don't give anyone appropriate advice for condoms!

hotblacktea · 23/02/2024 20:18

is he paying taxes on the profit ? HMRC might want to have a word

but otherwise he identified a business opportunity (horny teenagers needing condoms vs the shame of getting them from adults) and went for it, good on him

Sonolanona · 23/02/2024 20:18

My friend's son undercut his school tuck shop (boarding school) and made a nice profit from age 11. Had several other enterprises running while at school.

Now he's a very successful entrepeneur earning incredible money... some people just have that money makign streak Grin

Waffleson · 23/02/2024 20:22

I think it's quite clever really - he's not embarrassed to buy them and others are so he's exploiting that financially! I expect school will have to stop it if they find out but I doubt he'll get in that much trouble.
