GP bollocked me for a Facebook comment

So, I don't know if I ll be the only one but basically my GP used my telephone consult to bollock me for a comment I made on FB.
Like all local FB groups there's always a whinge topic and even though our GP practice is very good sometimes the 7am App for making appointments just doesn't work so by the time I can call though all the appointments have gone sometimes by 9am. So I commented on a post that was already running about this- nothing mean just agreeing..
Weeks later I managed to book a phone consult off the 7am App. The GP called at 7.20 then 2 minutes into the chat had a proper go at me about my comment and said I'd hurt people's feelings etc.
I was shocked that a medical professional sabotaged my appointment to do this.
What I wrote in my private life has nothing to do with my medical consult - surely
Why is he reading through everyone s comments then using his position to say something ?
I feel it's inappropriate.
I've never even seen him as a patient.
I'm actually quite upset and feel I've taken the can for the other 62 people that made comments that day.
Maybe he was stressed but it's not ethical is it ?

Not acceptable at all! Make a written complaint to the practice and if the don’t take action ask for details on who to refer it up to.

you doctor is sabotaging you medical care based on your beliefs and opinions

There was a thread on our local FB page which turned into just slagging off the GPs and staff. A post was made on behalf of the practise saying any further posts being abusive about the staff would result in the poster being removed from the practice. It went quiet after that.

During a consult isn't appropriate though

Good for that practice.

BUT in this instance there were 62 moans about an APP. Not a member of staff. Frankly it's weird that any of them were personally offended by that. Do we blame Bezos personally if an Amazon parcel is lost, , Zuckerberg if FB glitches?

Utterly unacceptable on his part. Complain in writing.

Of course he was in the wrong and cheeky to bring it up in your medical appointment. Especially as it was about the booking system app.
which I also have and it is basically useless. But I’ve complained to NHS England about my GPs, it’s a service we are allowed to expect a bit more than the bare minimum

I Make a complaint about his behaviour to the head of the practice

So you now come on here to repeat the process and moan about them on here? I would say we can’t see the comment so don’t know what it was; you should be accountable for what you write and you need to recognise the impact simple comments you make may have on others. Whether the GP should have raised it with you I’m not sure but your taking offence demonstrates you did something wrong as you were embarrassed

Oh go get a life. Nauseating.

If you write a negative review about a B&B, Hotel or restaurant, do you expect them to have a right to reply?

Why not a GP?

You do understand that the right to reply, if such a thing is in fact inalienable, would apply on the forum where the negative comment was made or similar, not during a medical appointment?

Schools get this all the time, as I'm sure the dental practice OP works in does.

The question is, is it ethical to use a 5-10 minute slot re a patient's care to give them a bollocking for it?

I certainly wouldn't have used eg parent's evening slot to confront a parent for moaning about the school on facebook.

If the Doctor was upset about the post and comments he could have sent out letters or made calls direct to discuss it.

Doing it in a medical appointment is unprofessional, in my opinion.

The gist is one thing. Why not post the actual comment?

Yup, the gist tells us nothing - the actual words would tell us a lot. I don't think the comment alone could be traced back to her if it's in a FB group, if that's a worry change one or two (though not the important ones). I still don't see a proper context for this and 'bollock' is a very emotive word too what did the GP actually say

I hope you will think twice about making such a comment again.

Yes, complain.

But don't be shocked it then becomes harder and harder to get an appointment as more GPs leave.

Stupid complaints like this really get under the skin. Did your clinical care in any way suffer? Check the length of the phone call- were you "short changed" even given the bollocking? Did you not get your clinical objectives met? Or are you feeling ashamed and are lashing out?

Once all GPs are private, serial, silly complainers about non - clinical issues will quickly find themselves "off listed". If you're not happy, find another practice.

Hobbi · 23/02/2024 15:22

@fiddlemeg
'Seriously'? It's not the same word. Seriously.
