What's your weird minor treat?

Mine is this:

Sometimes, in the middle of the day — maybe I've been cleaning or gardening or something, but not exactly vigorous aerobic exercise or anything — and without any disasters having happened that produce some compelling need to do so, I'll think to myself, "You know what, I'm going to treat myself to a fresh pair of knickers".

Not a whole set of fresh clothes, not a full-on shower and change — just the knickers.

For some reason, I always mentally frame this underwear profligacy as "treating myself". It just… feels nice to put on a fresh, clean, cool pair. A little half-way-through-the-day boost.

On a Friday I have two hours to myself (out of the whole bleedin week) and I get a McD's, sit in the garden centre car park listening to WATO, and then go to Savers to choose a new soap or a different dental floss...

A morning coffee or evening herbal tea or wine with a cushion and blanket on the stone seat under my favourite tree in the garden.

A quiet read in my window seat.

A soothing cup of camomile tea and a hot water bottle at bedtime.

A foot bath (in a very unsophisticated bucket) with lovely smelling salts and a salt scrub.

And yes! A quick freshen up and clean pair of knickers can't be beaten!

Sitting quietly in the chair with a view of the garden, with a cup of tea and a book. I don't do this often enough.

For a non solo treat, in the summer we'll take the dog to the beach after work and get a bag of chips and sometimes a beer from the coop and sit on a bench and watch the sun go down.

On the weekdays I don’t work I have a tiny morsel of cheese with my lunch sandwich. I wouldn’t dream of being so decadent in a work day!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 05/03/2024 19:29

Loose leaf, caffeined tea in a pot. I'm quite sensitive to caffeine so it's a couple-of-times-a-week treat only. Makes me feel very happy. Briefly!

Jelly beans. In the Night Garden even though DS is 14 now. (He doesn't watch it, I do!).

I have recently discovered the joy of saussicon sec, after a trip to Paris. I like to fry a few chunks up and either eat it neat or chuck it in to something to jazz it up

  • a really cold can of pop with my lunch. Just hits different on an office day.
  • I always buy my lunch, I just don't like rubbish home sandwiches and left overs.

I am very envious of those of you who have mastered napping. Whenever I nap during the day I wake up panicking and headachey.

Mine is occasionally watching a movie when everyone else is at work / school. Do it very rarely but enjoy it when I do. Has to be something cheesy though.

A cup of tea first thing. Normally I don't have time so when I do it feels like a treat.

Making up funeral eulogies while rolling out pastry. Niche!

When I'm home alone and don't need to cook for anyone, my treat is a chicken and bacon pasta bake, although I just microwave it.

Jar of cockles

Skibbidino · 05/03/2024 20:58

I absolutely love when I'm in the house on my own and can have a soak in the bath. Feels like a luxury when it's during the day! Also love just going for a little day time nap. Don't get to do either very often, though.
