What's your weird minor treat?

Mine is this:

Sometimes, in the middle of the day — maybe I've been cleaning or gardening or something, but not exactly vigorous aerobic exercise or anything — and without any disasters having happened that produce some compelling need to do so, I'll think to myself, "You know what, I'm going to treat myself to a fresh pair of knickers".

Not a whole set of fresh clothes, not a full-on shower and change — just the knickers.

For some reason, I always mentally frame this underwear profligacy as "treating myself". It just… feels nice to put on a fresh, clean, cool pair. A little half-way-through-the-day boost.

@dothehokeycokey I love the sound of your face care what products do you use pls? I've just started proper skincare so looking for new ideas to try!

dothehokeycokey · 23/02/2024 10:46

@FusionChefGeoff

I use a range called balance me

Their products are natural and smell absolutely amazing.

I literally feel a million times more polished after using it.

A good shower where I scrub, exfoliate, moisturise and get into clean pjs feeling like a slippery seal
Preferably followed by a cup of tea and a morrisons jam and cream muffin
The first burn of a new candle
Really random but water... sometimes I just need to go and stand in the sea. Find it really grounding

My dad lives near the beach and it's always the same no matter how many times I do it
"Can I borrow a towel?"
"What.. why.. why are you wet? Have you been paddling again?" < sigh >

Exactly the same! Warm, cold, any time!!! People think I'm mad, I really don't care! I'm the same in forests, shoes off... Love it!

lucysmam · 23/02/2024 14:26

Oh @MoonWoman69 yes!! But running water (i.e. under the shower!), it has to be moving, not still. I could spend hours under the shower 🙈

I love to open a new tin of coffee. It’s vacuum sealed so when you pop the lid it gives a satisfying Psst! sound and there’s a strong waft of coffee. I love it. DH has been known to do without coffee and wait until I get up so can open the tin myself.

Reading a book that's so good you go to bed early just to read it. Also, a perfect jacket potato.

I like an audio book in bed, in the dark. I sometimes listen to business and self improvement books during the day, but my bedtime listening is always fiction. I choose based on the narrator’s voice, the book itself doesn’t matter. Brendan Fraser has the best audio book voice ever.

FizzyStream · 25/02/2024 20:26

Oh yes. I have every Wednesday off and make sure I get all my jobs/chores etc done before lunch then watch an episode of something in bed on my iPad and have a little nap before school pick up. Bliss. Even better if I've just changed the bedding.

I've told DH to never WFH on a Wednesday as I'm too busy around the house and I'd disturb his meetings 😂

Problem is the window cleaner comes on a Wednesday and I have been known to shoot out of bed when I've heard the ladder lean against the window sill because I've not drawn the curtains. Now make sure I tilt the blinds.

You're weird but in a rather sweet endearing way.

Yes to daytime telly, Police Interceptors and Traffic Cops especially. Must have seen some of them about ten times.

  • Neals yard lacendar, geranium aromatic bath salts - they smell sooooo good

They have one with juniper in, it's like lying in a bath of gin and tonic.

wheresmyshoe · 25/02/2024 21:05

An afternoon bath feels like the most decadent of treats.
I also love an afternoon snooze, I don't get to indulge very often. My favourite time is on a summer afternoon with the windows wide open so there's a light breeze on my face.

SplodgeOfCustard · 25/02/2024 21:14

Afternoon naps...I came to this late in life -:My parents would never have approved but DH won me round. I now enjoy them as much as DH does.

Doing online food shops. I love it. I love it when they sub stuff too.

Watching Long Lost Families or Call the Midwife

@Yozzer87 I was going to write 'a quick afternoon wank'; but didn't want to be the first to lower the tone.

Tell me you work from home without telling me... 😁

Moonlightdust · 25/02/2024 21:26

Getting the bed to myself.
Taking a flask of coffee, my iPad to watch a film and a warm blanket to snuggle in the car on cold wintry evenings whilst waiting for child at their club.
Lighting a candle at my desk when wfh.
A rare bath (as opposed to shower).
Sneaky Starbucks whilst out.
Eating a sushi pack in the car after doing the weekly shop.
Painting my nails (doesn’t happen often!)
Walking around home departments on my day off.

Every once in a while during a really stressful busy day in the office, I'll find a quiet corner in a wine bar with soft seats and savour a glass of fizz and 30 mins with a good book.

Alternatively, I'll go to a luxy place ( like Claridges or Fortnums) and just have a nice cup of tea.

At home, its a tin of condensed milk kept in the fridge so it gets quite gloopy, and then eaten by the teaspoonful.

i am so impressed you do this in the working day. I plan to copy

Watching classic coronation Street whilst drinking tea and eating cake.

Having a cup of tea in bed in the Evening, bonus points for clean sheets.

cup of tea in bath in afternoon, an afternoon bath seems decadent.

a sneaky day off work on a nice day …. When dh doesn’t know so I can potter….

Squeezing Primula cheese straight into my mouth 😆

Ditto, but with squirty cream

I joined the Dobbies club, primarily to get 10% of bulbs and plants. As a member, you get two free brews a month in the café. Sometimes I’ll drive all the way to Dobbies just to get my free brew. I could easily afford to buy myself a coffee, but it wouldn’t feel like such a treat. I can’t work out if it’s because I’m a) getting old, b) a massive tightwad or c) utterly pathetic.

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 26/02/2024 08:34

I play the drums on my lunch break

Newestname002 · 26/02/2024 09:24

I love:

  • Two eggs scrambled with steamed asparagus sprinkled with vinaigrette whilst still warm and wholegrain Irish soda bread for breakfast
  • A hot bath which I get into centimetres at a time so my body gets used to the heat, with water/a cool drink by the side and Mumsnet/book to read. I like the water to cover my shoulders as the muscles are really tight there. Emptying some of the water out and topping up with more hot then
  • a little nap in bed with my legs and feet supported by a bed wedge. 🌹

Double cream in my coffee if we happen to have some leftover in the fridge 😋

Pants and socks on the radiator the night before so they’re toasty in the morning.

I've recently joined this and my local Dobbies has a great little soft play (which is discounted with the card too) so I often take DD on my day off and enjoy my free cuppa.

Apparently you get free cake for your birthday too, so looking forward to that! May book a cheeky leave day so I can enjoy that alone 😂

Spoonful of golden syrup straight from the jar.
