What do you say when your groceries are delivered?

Idly pondering this as I wait for my Sainsburys delivery.

I always say “pop it in the porch and I’ll unload it.” Then empty the crates into big Ikea bags to carry through to the kitchen.

if you get groceries delivered, what do you say and do?

We use Waitrose and Tesco. They have always unpacked on the doorstep into my crates - they are very quick at doing this. I have never unpacked. I then carry the crates through when they have gone. I usually give them a carton of juice and a kitkat. Great service.

This thread has made me want to start getting deliveries again but I do hate the frantic throwing everything into a bag/onto the porch floor while they stand there watching.

A few people have said the same. It just feels awkward having someone standing waiting for you to sort it out so I personally feel (as do others on here) that I need to do it as quickly as possible.

Always thank you. Quick question about how their day has gone, perhaps the traffic, and good wishes for the rest of the shift. I also always complete any questionnaires. I think I'm a bit unusual. I don't always have the same driver, but months later they seem to remember me.

Mine gets taken into the kitchen for me. We have general small talk. If its one of the regular ones I normally ask after children/grandchildren - who I know all about from previous deliveries

Tesco drivers here are lovely

nokidshere · 19/02/2024 17:43

Why do you tip?

Our Tesco delivery drivers are fab. They always bring it to the kitchen and very often help me unload.

It's weird being so stressed about it, just chill, or go to the shop

DinnaeFashYersel · 19/02/2024 18:09

Tesco Driver carries the crates into the kitchen and we have a nice chat while I unload.

"Hello, thank you, would you please pack that into these bags for me as I've got carpal tunnel and can't grip things properly". They do, without complaint. I'm very grateful for them. I'm so glad shops have reinstated deliveries, I dont know what I'd do without them.

If it’s Ocado he/she asks where I want the bags so I usually gave them just pop them inside the front door. I then hand over the previous bags, say how many there are and say thank you. Sometimes there is a bit of chat about the weather. Last week I was asked my opinion on some wine I’d bought.

If it’s Waitrose then I and / or DH / DS take the crates into the kitchen and unload onto the counter, return the crates to the driver and say thank you.
