How to look as amazing as Pippa Middleton in a bikini?!?

Bennettsister · 17/02/2024 20:03

Not a goady thread just genuinely want to know how to look as toned and in such good shape. Am the same age as Pippa. Just saw some photos of her on the DM (don’t judge) and she looks absolutely fantastic. Healthy but so fit. I would not look so good in a bikini. What do I need to do?!?

Exercise and healthy food may not 'free', but neither do you need to be 'rich' in the sense that the Middletons are. Basic vegetables, pulses, wholegrain rice etc. are staples and not exclusive foods available only to the rich.

There are plenty of women who look like Pippa Middleton who are not rich- anyone who exercises a lot- running, swimming, lifting weights and eats a normal healthy diet is able cultivate a healthy lean figure and muscle. Most people just don't have the motivation- I know a handful of women like Pippa- they are not rich- just ordinary working women- teachers with young children, office worker, and one who gave up her day job because she got so much into fitness that she set up her own bootcamp business.

Yes you can eat healthily on a budget but there are many other barriers that your average person may have. General tiredness particularly if you work ft and have young children. Yes you may have an hour free in your day, but you might just be shattered and want to sit on the sofa, you might think you'd be better off catching up on chores...you might not have childcare to get out of the house. I'm sure exercising is far easier when you have your own gym/pool. Also a lot of normal people use food for pleasure...it's easy to do this as it's cheap and readily available. If you're wealthy, you will have many more sources of enjoyment than food such as travel and holidays.

Are people really saying there isn’t socioeconomic issues around health?!

I hardly ever eat rubbish food. It's too expensive.
Walking is free.

Similar to this, I find eating junk is far more expensive than eating clean.

When I completely gave up processed foods my grocery bill went DOWN.

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2024 12:16

It's fuel.

A lot of the reason poorer people eat junk is because it's an affordable, socially acceptable dopamine hit when you haven't got a lot else to enjoy.

Food is also pleasurable....it's why we eat a variety of things, why TV chefs are a thing, why we have recipe books, why we put on nice food at weddings and parties, why we have birthday cake, why we have restaurants.

Very few people see food as just fuel.

minipie · 18/02/2024 12:20

I do think there are some people who regard food as fuel and don’t particularly get pleasure from indulgent foods the way most of us do. I feel a bit sorry for them but on the other hand it must be a lot easier to stay slim.

Perhaps the Middletons are like this - or perhaps they like crisps and ice cream as much as anyone but have iron willpower.

MiltonNorthern · 18/02/2024 12:22

Be genetically blessed
Benefit from a whole life of privilege, best food, healthcare and access to health and fitness opportunities
Have an upbringing where looks and appearances are treated as extremely important (ugh, I would not want this)
Eat very little and workout all the time
Probably marry rich so you have plenty of leisure time for the above

Any of that sound worth it to you just to look good in a bikini?

It's fuel AND pleasure. Maybe you don't get pleasure from food but it would be a weird position for you to take to insist nobody else does, against all evidence.

  1. it’s no more expensive to eat healthily than it is to eat unhealthily. It’s about choices. Oats are cheaper than sugary cereals, an apple is cheaper than a chocolate bar, etc.
  2. Running is a cost free exercise available to most. There are also thousands of workouts on YouTube if childcare is an issue - you can do 20 minutes while children are asleep/not yet awake.

Barring some disabilities and certain health conditions, absolutely anyone can get fit and healthy with discipline.

Edited

Of course it's more expensive. Oats need to be cooked. A pack of apples is more expensive than a pack of doughnuts.
If you're on the breadline it's also more likely you won't have staples like herbs and spices to help you cook from scratch because you're never in a position to add them to your food bill when there's processed alternatives.

It's well known that it's cheaper to fill up on high calorie low nutrition food.

Usernamen · 18/02/2024 12:25

LOL at the notion that only fat people derive pleasure from food and slim people think of it as “fuel”.

I ADORE food - last night I had so much to eat it affected my sleep (big celebration dinner) and I’m a size 6. The difference is this is a relatively rare occurrence and I make up for it with exercise / a few days of super healthy eating to readdress the balance.

Be the offspring of Mr and Mrs Middleton?

This.

I’ve not seen the phots the OP is talking about, but Catherine and Pippa both are naturally slender and take after their mother. That and being quite sporty and generally taking care of themselves, but genetics is a large part of it.

So you are basically agreeing with me that it comes down to your own motivation! If it doesn't;t- how do you explain the examples I've given? My friends who are keen exercisers and eat really healthy have similar lives to me- work full time, have kids etc- they find the time because they are self motivated- I am not!

People who have the luxury to get heavily into fitness and give up their day job to set up a business that may or may not be successful are not who I am talking about here.

Well yes to a point but that doesn't mean we can't be understanding towards others. If a woman works full time, has kids and can find the motivation to exercise, good for her. If she's shattered and wants to crash out on the sofa, I have zero judgement. Some people can overcome the barriers, others can't. My point was if you're wealthy, there will be fewer barriers.

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2024 12:31

@MiltonNorthernit would be a weird position for you to take to insist nobody else does, against all evidence.
I didn't insist nobody else does.

@mypafology , you can make porridge by putting oats in a mug, adding boiling water, leave it for 5 mins. It's tasty, good and filling.

Junk food makes you feel lethargic IMO.

Crisps - not keen. Most seem to have a synthetic aftertaste. They make me hungrier than I was before I ate them.
Ice cream - love it but don't have a freezer.

Comedycook · 18/02/2024 12:32

Also motivation plays a factor...if you're going on numerous expensive holidays every year, having access to beautiful designer clothes and socialising with other very thin, well groomed women, you will feel much more motivated to stay in shape. If you're not doing much beyond work and the school run and your friends are in a similar situation and all a bit out of shape, you won't feel that societal pressure so much.

HangingOver · 18/02/2024 12:32

Yup, be rich. Rich in money and therefore rich in time and therefore rich in health

I'd be the size of a school if I were rich. Think of all the dinners out and being able to afford the good biscuits.

AtomicBlondeRose · 18/02/2024 12:33

Junk food and lack of exercise both make you lethargic. Being inactive and eating badly locks you into a spiral of tiredness and lack of energy. Plenty of rich people are in that same spiral and plenty of poor people cook properly and try and get exercise to overcome it.

How do you boil water if you haven't put money on the meter and the electric's been cut off?

I know that's an extreme example but is a reality for some...you need to try and look at it from a different perspective. Health is intrinsically linked to wealth.

Mumsanetta · 18/02/2024 12:36

In terms of exercise, she clearly lifts weights and rows and diet wise eats a lot of protein. This is very obvious to me from looking at her shoulders, arms, back and slightly over developed quads. I don’t think you need to be married to a billionaire to achieve that - if you look around your local gym you will see lots of people who look like her - but it does require discipline and making time for diet and exercise. Note also that there are lot of billionaires’ wives who don’t look like Pippa Middleton despite the access to wealth and support.

Comedycook · 18/02/2024 12:37

Oats cooked in water with absolutely nothing else added is not tasty. Add some cinnamon, a banana, nuts, fruit, yoghurt etc then yes. But plain oats and water is just a bit nothing

Your example is a reference to someone living below the poverty line, not wealth in the way that the average person understands wealth.

FluffyFanny · 18/02/2024 12:39

Someone who can't put money in their electric metre is unlikely to be thinking about how to look like Pippa Middleton!

There's plenty of rich fat people!
