Eek that's crept up on me . Anyone more organised this year?

HelloMiss · 17/02/2024 15:23

Organised? For some 'day' 3 weeks away? What 'organising' am I supposed to be doing?

I’m also wondering what the panic is?

Musicaltheatremum · 17/02/2024 15:44

I used to send my mum a card and a present if I saw something she would like but usually just send a card. My kids send me a card. If people aren't busy I might see my daughter (son in Australia just now and lives in London) Husband would send his mum a card. ....

megletthesecond · 17/02/2024 15:45

I have a mum. She only needs a card. I'm banned from spending money on her (she's well off and I'm not).

Musicaltheatremum · 17/02/2024 15:45

Just realised I'll be on holiday abroad this year anyway

mypafology · 17/02/2024 15:45

OH GOD ONLY 3 WEEKS

thank god you were here to remind us OP. I'm going to start organising immediately!!!!!

MississippiAF · 17/02/2024 15:49

organised with what?

Girlsjustwannahavefungi · 17/02/2024 15:49

More organised than what?

Buy/make a card.

Send it/have it in your bag to hand over on the day.

Get a gift, maybe confirm plans for lunch/tea/whatever you usually do.

Or is this one of the trick MN "life admin" posts where the simple act of making a cup of tea can be broken down into a lengthy list of tasks akin to launching a mission to the moon.

Jingleballs2 · 17/02/2024 15:55

I just buy a card and a box of chocolates/bunch of flowers.. not really much to prepare for. Mum just buys anything she wants anyway and doesn't want the clutter of "cutsie" tat. Neither do I, a nice homemade card or picture would be lovely 😊

Mission to the moon 🤣

I would agree with the OP that I actually haven't seen much of the usual Marketing shite about it yet. The faux concerned "we won't bother you for Mother's Day if you tick this box" Hmm

The marketers must be pissed off when as This week you have valentines and pancake day all at the same time and there isn't as much chance/retail space turnaround to flog us stuff we don't need.

I am honestly turning so cynical in my old age but all the tat in the shops gives me the rage

mitogoshi · 17/02/2024 16:11

I'm a mum, got a mum and none the wiser about the eek.

It's always 4th in lent, so no creeping upConfused

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/02/2024 16:12

It's also my mum's birthday the Thursday before

MaryActsLikeSheDontCare · 17/02/2024 16:13

So many arsey replies.

Thanks for the reminder, OP. The restaurants near me are usually booked out, three weeks or so before Mother’s Day.

What do you normally plan for your mum that takes more than 3 weeks notice op?

I normally get my mum a card and flowers and a small gift, we go out for lunch and a run in the car somewhere she likes going.

It's my birthday ON Mother's Day, so I won't be doing anything that day as it isn't my idea of birthday fun to go to a crowded restaurant with everyone else's kids (and probably dogs as well). It is so annoying.

But it must be even more annoying for people whose birthdays are 14th February! Though maybe it's not so bad because you don't have the screamy kids around.

HelloMiss · 17/02/2024 16:18

Glad it's not just me who is baffled by this!

89FTM · 17/02/2024 16:33

It’s my first Mother’s Day as a mum 🥰 I do hope DH is using these 3 weeks wisely… 😂

Mybusyday · 17/02/2024 16:47

Why the nastiness? OP just asked a simple question

Most likely due to the snooty comment saying you don't have a mum when someone didn't share the same concern that there are "only" 3 weeks

I think it's the OP who started being nasty.
HelloMiss was just asking a simple question.

Edited

My mum always insisted that we didn't take her out to a restaurant on Mother's Day as it was a "waste of money". We always took her the following Sunday instead.
