Really bad uber rating

Ouchmyarse · 16/02/2024 16:03

Apparently, anyway.

One of my eldest dcs friends has taken up uber driving for extra cash and was taking about it this morning, about some nightmare passengers he’s had. I never even knew about Uber ratings, apparently mine is really bad, he was shocked.

I’ve only ever used Uber in bad or emergency situations. Getting the dc from school to take to A&E, myself back and forth from many pretty harrowing hospital appointments over the years, dashes to my father in a care home when he’s had accidents, most recently up and down when he was dying and too and from his funeral as I was too upset to drive.

I’m never rude, always say thank you at the end but to be honest, I am usually quietly crying or silently shitting myself so I’m not exactly full of the joys and chatting.

I’ve had a couple of drivers try and chat but I’ve politely said I’ve had bad news, sorry, I just want to be quiet. Last one was the guy who drove me home after I’d sat with my dad as he died, he started talking to me and I said, I’m sorry, my dad just died in there, I don’t want to talk.

I know it doesn’t matter that much but I’m a bit pissed off that I’ve got such a bad rating when it’s mostly been trips to and from bloody hospitals.

Omg I’ve got 5 stars. Used them quite a lot as well. And never tipped 🤷🏼‍♀️

Love this new feature! I am 4.48* have:
5* x 398
1* x 32

And some in between. I'm surprised only 32 riders gave me 1*. I live in london and I'm a 15 min walk to my local station then 15 min the other side; so often it's quicker to Uber and only £20ish, I expense it because I only go in 1-2 times per week and I have nursery run on way home via the station, so want to get in fast in the morning.

This does mean though, they are often waiting close to the 8 min because sometimes finding an Uber can take 10-15 min or they come quite quickly so in the latter they wait whilst I run around getting my things to leave.

It always means I put make up on in the car on the way to work but I take Ubers outside of going to work but I can guarantee the 32 *1 is because of morning commute! Since I became pregnant with my second I also pack yogurt in tupaware and if I feel nauseas I have to eat it, only a few times but that is a fast way to upset them.

This feels like that episode of black mirror where social standing is all based on how you've been rated by others 😂

That was a great episode, when she was banned from being bridesmaid due to her low rating.

egowise · 16/02/2024 19:13

Ooo this is fun, I'm now fuming with the 8 1, and besties with the 463 5 🤣

I used to do 2x school runs a day, and I know that some drivers were not pleased with having kids in the car.

We had a few who would regularly pick us up and talk to the kids, there's a guy near us who fills his car with water and sweets and has chargers, the kids love him 😄 as do I!

K0OLA1D · 16/02/2024 16:29

I'm a 5 and I never tip.

Rarely rate them either if I'm honest.

Same. Well, 4.99 because I had a row with one years ago! I only tip if there has been unexpected delays as it has obviously taken them more time than expected. I sometimes rate, I sometimes don't. If they ask I always do but otherwise don't always remember.

doppelgangermirror · 16/02/2024 19:40

Ooh - mine is interesting.

7 x 5 stars
1 x 4 stars

Then 2 x 2 stars
and 1 x 1 star

There was definitely one time I was in charge of getting my horribly drunk friend home so had to give the driver directions to drop her first (she lives on the same road as me) and asked him to wait for a moment so I could see she'd actually got into her front door. I did tip him for that though, so I'll be pretty narked if that was one of my 1s or 2s!

Other than that it is a mystery. The only time I get cancelled on (as you can see, I don't use Uber that much) is when I'm trying to get home from central London as I live in the wilds of Zone 3 and you can see they drivers just don't think it is worth it.

ajandjjmum · 16/02/2024 19:40

I've got 4.76 -
68 x 5*
3 x 1*
And one of each 2, 3 and 4*

I want to know who gave me the 1* reviews! Grin

Shadowonasun · 16/02/2024 20:04

This is ridiculous. So now I'm supposed to learn a set of 'rules' in order to use a taxi? No, thanks.

It's a taxi. I need them to take me from A to B in a safe manner and then I'll pay them. That's it. If I don't want to chat to the driver - I won't, if I need to be on my phone - I will and like hell will I tip them. For what? I'm paying for my journey already.

I don't slam doors, I say hi, bye and thank you and I pay the fare. That's perfectly enough.

Fitzbillie · 16/02/2024 20:04

@Notsoslim 4.48 although I think it was 4.2 at the time.

Under 4.5 is not just bad it’s very bad, according to Uber.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/02/2024 20:22

Hmm I have mainly 5 star ratings but a few 3 star, a 2, and a one star. I shall be checking it after each journey now - just out of interest .

Couldn't agree more! The amount of Ubers I get in which smell, or when I was heavily pregnant summer one refused to put on AC because it's 'broken' aka they don't want to burn fuel and we were stuck in traffic. Others have talked non stop on their phones or driven badly. I don't rate them. Who cares if I put a bit of makeup on for my work day, I never have left a mess as I do it over a jacket. As for slamming doors... pathetic.

SausageAndEggSandwich · 16/02/2024 20:37

I have 4.77

164 x 5
12 x 4
6 x 3
2 x 2
4 x 1

I really want to know what happened with the 1 and 2 star ones. I'm polite, I'm always there on time, say hello and goodbye. I don't eat in the taxi though I have drunk coffee from a travel cup a couple of times. A few times I was with very drunk friends. No vomit though, just very loud.

I did check it a while back and I was 4.6 something and made an effort then to say hi and have a bit of polite chat and that seems to have brought my ratings up lol

Alwayswonderedwhy · 16/02/2024 20:46

@lpylu
To find your ratings breakdown go to settings, tap privacy and then privacy centre. In the privacy centre, click “would you like to see a summary of how you use Uber”. From there, scroll down to “browse your data” and then tap on “view my ratings” and your breakdown will be revealed.

Notsoslim · 16/02/2024 20:52

Wow, I wouldn’t have thought just under 4.5 is bad.

I find it bizarre how many one stars drivers are giving out to people. I’d have thought the only ones who got one stars were people who thrown up in the Uber or being rude and sweary or something. I don’t think I’ve ever given out a one star to drivers even when they’ve dropped me off at the wrong place! I’m going to start checking my ratings now regularly too just out of curiosity although it doesn’t really matter much as long as my overall rating doesn’t drop much (currently 4.8)

Notsoslim · 16/02/2024 21:04

I've just realised the Uber account I had a 5 star rating on and had taken hundreds of trips on I actually shut down during the pandemic when I wasn’t leaving my house .

This current one is only 2 years old so I’ve just taken 33 trips on it.

Also just an idea for anyone who has had bad luck with ratings -if it’s causing you issues you can probably close your account and then reopen a new one to start again .

KeeeeeepDancing · 16/02/2024 21:22

I got a low rating from a driver in York. He was a shit driver and rude. Horrible man.
Everyone else has been super. He wrecked my rating for ages. Git

BobbyBiscuits · 16/02/2024 21:29

This seems out of order. I can only assume that once your rating drops, people are more inclined to give you a further bad rating, seemingly for no reason.
I used to have my rating lower when we used it for really short trips. Purely due to disability but that doesn't seem to factor in for some of them. I think sometimes they don't even know where you are going when they pick up the job? Gawd knows why they didn't like this but when I stopped doing those trips my rating went back up again. It seems horrible that they rated you poorly for being upset. I guess you could complain, and say you think you've been unfairly judged. They may help, I'm not too sure.
One thing you could do is only ever book one when it's your son's mate that picks it up (he can tell you when he is 'on') then each time he can give you 5 stars. It might take a while but it will increase it!

Rufilla · 16/02/2024 21:38

I’ve never seen able to see the rating breakdown before - great intel! I’ve assumed until very recently that I’d (unfairly imo) had some 3* *reviews - turns out I’ve actually had several 2 and 1 reviews.

Bizarre. Like others, I never keep drivers waiting, am polite, don’t slam doors, etc. I thought 3* would be unfair, but genuinely don’t get how a paying customer who isn’t a total nightmare can be judged a 1 or 2.

Not really keen on these services where customers get rated tbh.

owlsinthedaylight · 16/02/2024 21:40

Ah, this explains why my last 2 cancelled. 4.43 rating.

I’ve only taken 7 trips. 6 of them are 5 star, and 1 is 1 star. I’ll bet that was the driver who tried to drop me off in an industrial estate rather than at the airport … at 3am … as a woman on my own. He felt it was reasonable that I walk from there. He also “thought I would be younger”.

Im not really interested in playing a popularity game with a taxi company. I’ll just use another service in future.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 17/02/2024 10:15

I've got 2 2* ratings which are probably from when I was working during lockdown and road closures stopped me getting to the cars easily.

Did you report his behaviour? That sounds quite frightening - the industrial estate could be considered a genuine mistake (not) but the comments on your age are inappropriate and creepy .

Ouchmyarse

I only discovered the other day how to a breakdown of what ratings I got off the drivers. Have a look at yours and see what that's like

On the app go onto settings, then privacy. In a box with a picture of a car on a map it will say "Would you like to see a summary of how you use uber", click on it and scroll down to view my ratings then click on that

Ohh I never knew that, but now i'm pissed off I had 4 1 stars. 92 5 stars though, so it's possible the 4 are when I took pissed people home after a boozy night.

gano · 17/02/2024 11:16

Mine is 4.5, from 36 trips. With 29x 5 and 2x 1 ratings. I know that one of my 1 ratings was because I projectile vomited in the car. I'd been out, only had a glass of wine, realised I didn't feel very well, so got an uber home. I told the driver I didn't feel good and asked him to pull over as soon as he could. Too late! Within seconds, I vomited everywhere. Obviously I paid the fine and was very apologetic. It turned out I had norovirus, so the poor driver almost certainly got that too. The other 1 was when my dickhead ExH was verbally abusive to the driver.
