Really bad uber rating

Ouchmyarse · 16/02/2024 16:03

Apparently, anyway.

One of my eldest dcs friends has taken up uber driving for extra cash and was taking about it this morning, about some nightmare passengers he’s had. I never even knew about Uber ratings, apparently mine is really bad, he was shocked.

I’ve only ever used Uber in bad or emergency situations. Getting the dc from school to take to A&E, myself back and forth from many pretty harrowing hospital appointments over the years, dashes to my father in a care home when he’s had accidents, most recently up and down when he was dying and too and from his funeral as I was too upset to drive.

I’m never rude, always say thank you at the end but to be honest, I am usually quietly crying or silently shitting myself so I’m not exactly full of the joys and chatting.

I’ve had a couple of drivers try and chat but I’ve politely said I’ve had bad news, sorry, I just want to be quiet. Last one was the guy who drove me home after I’d sat with my dad as he died, he started talking to me and I said, I’m sorry, my dad just died in there, I don’t want to talk.

I know it doesn’t matter that much but I’m a bit pissed off that I’ve got such a bad rating when it’s mostly been trips to and from bloody hospitals.

I just checked my Uber rating. Apparently, it is 4.24, which is quite bad.
I am always polite and nine times out of ten give a decent tip. I am always ready when said driver arrives and I don’t eat in the car.
Doesnt bother me tbh and I have never had a driver cancel on me

Just looked back over my old rides and anything that is rated is 5*. So I must have one or two that are zero for some reason.

Does no rating mean I have been lowballed, or just they didn’t bother to rate?

You can’t see what they rated you on individual trips because it’s anonymous, you’ll be seeing the rating you gave them

RokaandRoll · 16/02/2024 17:13

Mines's 4.69. It was worse for a while because I was travelling with my father who is VERY annoying and kept asking Uber drivers invasive personal questions, droning on with boring stories, etc.

I don't think it goes by tipping as I think Uber drivers rate passengers before they're told whether they tipped or not.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/02/2024 17:13

I had no idea I even had a rating! I use it quite a lot - normally leave a small tip (apart from the other day when they dropped me off the opposite side of the square and I had quite a walk still). I've never rated a driver though. My rating is 4.57

Teddleshon · 16/02/2024 17:14

I just looked at mine and was surprised to see 4.7. I always tip generously, never keep anyone waiting and am always friendly etc. Looking over my rides there is nothing below a 5 star rating so not sure how meaningful the overall rating is!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/02/2024 17:17

Im not rude but I wouldn't normally chat to the driver .
Hmm there was one I got with my aunt last year and I didn't know the area so was at wrong car park at the station and they had to wait - and then my aunt directed him rather than letting him follow his sat nav .... maybe that one rated me zero !

breakfastdinnerandtea · 16/02/2024 17:45

This feels like that episode of black mirror where social standing is all based on how you've been rated by others 😂

Precipice · 16/02/2024 16:14

I would also suspect entitled vindictiveness of this nature.

But it's not "properly". Nobody is entitled to a tip and it's not the role of customers to top up wages by paying more than the stated price.

I don’t know if it’s to do with tipping.

I’ve never tipped Uber drivers with a few exceptions and my rating was 5.0 when I used to use them a lot for years.

Now I only use them a few times a year and I got into a bit of an argument with one driver and a few weeks later I noticed my rating was down to 4.7 or something. 😂

i’ve taken them a couple of more times since then and it’s now at 4.8 so I guess my last couple of drivers must have rated me well lol

amylou8 · 16/02/2024 17:51

I've never used uber, but with a sick car I downloaded it today. I think I'll delete it and stick to the local taxi company, can't be doing with all that bollocks for a service I'm paying for.

TheTripThatWasnt · 16/02/2024 17:51

I just checked mine - 4.77, and I've never tipped and rarely rate the driver!

The app is showing what you rated them for your previous rides . As @berksandbeyond said upthread, it’s anonymous.

Some of these 'sat nav' things are dreadful! Yes, navigation tools are good. But some of them truly seem to think 'Satnav always know best', regardless of what the client knows about where they are or want to go.

I had two such incidents in the summer. Once was a taxi to the airport, where after I called the dispatcher, it turned out that the driver had been waiting all the way down the street and kept insisting to me that that was the house, like I didn't know the address. It wasn't even the error that sometimes delivery people make where stuff gets dropped off on the other side of the street, where it's a different street name but similar numbers, but way down the hill.

The other one collected me normally but stopped en route with a 'is this it?'. I eventually had to guide him, which was fine when we got closer to the address, but his 'satnav says it's here' was not a place I recognised. It was about 10 mins drive away. No way was it the right postcode for him, since I know that the postcode changes part way down the street, let alone so far out.

I’ve had issues with not being able to get an Uber in London because of a low rating. I actually had a driver message me asking what I’d done to get a low rating, send me a laughing smiley, then drive in the opposite direction to picking me up.

I’m polite, usually make some generic chit chat to see if the driver wants to talk (because I am paranoid now), wait in the right place, don’t keep them waiting, tip and rate the drivers promptly.

I suspect there is an element of subconscious bias. If you have a low rating, drivers rate you lower than they would do if you had a good rating eg give you 4 stars instead of 5 despite not doing anything “wrong”, just because they feel there must be something bad about you because of the rating.

Since I’ve started checking after every trip, I’ve noticed that I always get 5 stars if I’m travelling with 20 something attractive DD or DIL… whereas I often only get 4 stars if I am alone. I suspect there is some misogyny going on. I wonder how many of the PPs with low ratings are middle aged women?

In my case, I suspect my 1 star ratings are down to anti semitism. I’m not Jewish but I do sometimes have to visit Jewish organisations for work. I use a nearby address instead now and the 1 star ratings have stopped.

@Fitzbillie that’s crazy they did that! How low is your rating?

I’ve Had Ubers cancel on me even when I was 5.0 though. I don’t know if Bolt do a rating system but they cancel me on a lot.

BarbieDangerous · 16/02/2024 18:04

Who the hell tips their Uber driver? People on MN apparently tip people for simply breathing😂

TheCadoganArms · 16/02/2024 18:06

fluffycatkins · 16/02/2024 16:18

Your rating doesn't sound terrible but I think lack of tipping is your issue.

I have never tipped once and my rating is 4.81 after literally hundreds of journeys.

LimoncelloSpritz · 16/02/2024 18:10

I had no clue Uber rated passengers! Off to look at mine.

Flowerfairie · 16/02/2024 18:11

Mine is low. I used to use them a lot always polite, on time but not chatty. Hate small talk. Its never affected me getting a cab.

lpylu · 16/02/2024 18:12

Alwayswonderedwhy · 16/02/2024 16:24

I got a one star review from a driver and also have absolutely no idea why. It's not like you know which driver was either to leave a bad review in return.
It's not caused me any problems with being picked up so I wouldn't worry.

How do you know what a specific driver rates you? I just see an overall score.

HeyBamboOllyOllyOllyHayMambo · 16/02/2024 18:12

Ouchmyarse

I only discovered the other day how to a breakdown of what ratings I got off the drivers. Have a look at yours and see what that's like

On the app go onto settings, then privacy. In a box with a picture of a car on a map it will say "Would you like to see a summary of how you use uber", click on it and scroll down to view my ratings then click on that

Really bad uber rating
Becky2023 · 16/02/2024 18:13

You can see all the ratings you have received.
Go to ACCOUNT
Then PRIVACY CHECKUP
Click 'get started'
On about page 3 it will say ' you have taken ?? trips with Uber'. Click the arrow next to that.

Scroll down to Ratings, then ' view my ratings'.

LimoncelloSpritz · 16/02/2024 18:18

I'm 4.68 apparently with 3 1* ratings! I'm always polite and don't slam doors!

BarbieDangerous · 16/02/2024 18:04

I’ll almost always tip a taxi driver, depending on the fare. If it’s been a long journey and theyve had a decent run out of me. I might just round up £19 to £20. If I’ve had to nip 2 miles down the road instead of walking, I feel a bit guilty about the small fare and tipped a bit more. I’ve NEVER tipped an Uber driver due to their prices, I know this varies depending on the area. But Ubers where I am charge literally around/over double of a normal taxi. If I can’t get a taxi to work and need an Uber, a usually £11.80 fare ends up around £23

Doltontweedle · 16/02/2024 18:26

Goes to check my rating now… 😂

idontlikealdi · 16/02/2024 18:31

Just checked, mine is 4.92. Never tip, always rate the driver
