Outrageous Gousto

Mmmm I have been a Gousto customer for over a year now and have really enjoyed the meals. Unfortunately yesterday they left my box in the rain. I collected it and it has dyed my light grey jumper. I’ve tried all sorts to get it out and it won’t budge. I contacted them hoping for a discount off my next box. But they stated it was water soluble dye and they could only suggest having it dry cleaned. I am actually pretty pissed off. It wasn’t an expensive jumper but it is going to be binned. I wasn’t expecting much but even a token amount would have been a nice gesture. Now I am cross! Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Gousto?

Wash it in cold water with stain remover.

matthancockscareer · 14/02/2024 12:13

Not quite sure how this is Goustos fault??? If you want to blame anyone blame the delivery company!

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 12:26

Thanks I’ve tried cold water and stain remover. I also think if you say it’s soluble it should come out. It hasn’t so Gousto’s packaging is at fault.

Anyway I asked for recommendations of other similar company’s.

I don’t think it’s Goustos fault really. But have you tried Hello Fresh? V similar, although I did prefer Gousto.

ThreeTreeHill · 14/02/2024 12:30

I mean you picked up a sopping wet red box? You can hardly blame gousto

Do you have a dry place to leave the box? Its the fault of the delivery company if the box got wet not gousto

GailTheSnail · 14/02/2024 12:36

I would blame Gousto. When making decisions on packaging maybe... just maybe.... consider the possibility that rain might occur and things might get wet

AlohaRose · 14/02/2024 12:37

You’re only cutting off your nose to spite your face here, Gousto aren’t going to notice the loss of your business, but you are going to miss the meals which you have apparently enjoyed from them. However, if you are insistent on changing, then HelloFresh seems to be the logical and similar alternative.

TwattingDog · 14/02/2024 12:39

Absolutely nothing to do with Gousto 😂😂 That's definitely a case of personal responsibility.

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 12:39

Again I expect soluble dye to come out. It could be left in the sea for all I care, it’s supposed to be soluble so yes the company’s packaging is at fault.

I made it clear I wanted other recommendations for similar company’s.

They could have offered me a pound for all I care, it was the attitude that irked me.

I am looking at mindful chef and Hello Fresh. Can anyone tell me about their experience with Mindful fresh?

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 12:44

Thanks@GailTheSnail

It’s a bloody bright red box, that’s supposed to be water soluble. It’s NOT!

I am sharing my experience and asking for an alternative recommendation. This is not AIBU.

They do and did.

The packaging will have been drop tested from a height of 1.2m, 10 times and on all corners.
They're correct, the ink (not dye) IS water soluble.

PossumintheHouse · 14/02/2024 12:58

If you decide on Hello Fresh, I put a post in the promotions section the other day offering a code for a free week’s trial box.

Do you work for them?

GailTheSnail · 14/02/2024 13:06

Gousto? No.

But this is my specialism and I know exactly how stringing packaging of this type of product is.

TwattingDog · 14/02/2024 13:08

What is the jumper made of? Surely that's the bigger issue - water soluble ink doesn't mean it won't stain clothing.

JanglingJack · 14/02/2024 13:09

Did you clutch it to your chest?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 14/02/2024 13:10

Don’t get Grubby, they are an absolute rip off

MrsKwazi · 14/02/2024 13:11

You are being ridiculous OP. Hth.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 14/02/2024 13:18

Don't bother with Green Chef ... piddly portions and questionable quality ingredients for the price

Oh and they are sneaky about adding an additional charge for "premium " delivery on to your delivery charge which is a faff to get back

On balance I love simply cook. Not had one bad meal, spices keep for ages, easy to follow recipes and all just a few steps so not at all complicated

If anyone wants to try a box for free (just cancel after) I've popped my referral code on Promo codes board

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 13:20

@PossumintheHouse thank you, I am going to try HelloFresh as they seem to have a bigger selection of everything.

Hello fresh is (in my opinion) far inferior to Gousto. Cancelled after a few Hello Fresh boxes and went to Gousto

We’re only on our third week of Hello Fresh (after doing it for ages a couple of years ago). So far, so good. PM me if you want a free box code.

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 14/02/2024 13:25

Sling your jumper in every wash you do, I got pollen stains out of a tshirt by doing that.

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 13:26

I really cannot be bothered to keep reiterating.

I expected the soluble whatever to come out, it did not.

It was heavy so yes I lifted it and held it against me.

I have also had broken boxes previously and they have refunded as a good will gesture. (Twice in a year and a half)

I am trying something different now and ordered a HelloFresh box.

This was not an AIBU, this is chat.

I asked for recommendations on a new box after explaining why I wanted a new box.

Mistakes happen in every field.

Whether it was in the design process or when the process was being carried out. I still think you should be able to pick up a box without staining your clothes.

Hello Fresh is ok. A lot of mildy spicy dishes
